May 18, 2013 - All Star Race 2013

Well another race week has come and gone with lots to report. We arrived at the track on Tuesday and were there until Sunday morning. We experienced all the usual weather systems from cool to vicious hot requiring the air to run all afternoon. Had lots of good food drinks and laughs with our friends from Perry Sound. Randi got in all the requisite shopping treks with Karen and has rediscovered her enjoyment of knitting of all types of coverings. Lots to see and do here in the heart of Nascar country. Met all of neighbors and enjoyed the...

Dec 5, 2012 - In the Belly of the Beast!

Wow! I haven't posted since September! How sad is that. Driving my life away for sure. Let's see.....the name of this post was regarding........oh yes! Los Angeles! I don't know if its because the map of the area reminds me of a stomach, or that, as your entering the surrounds of the city, you descend from the mountains like you're sliding down a throat into its dire depths. Either way it's a nauseating feeling that lingers until you are safely back in Arizona. The fact I know the multiple highways of this area better than my own state of...

Jul 1, 2012 - Trip Home and Reflections

Hi Everyone! What a long flight home. Over 24 hours! We are all exhausted, but we will never forget the amazing experiences we had on our trip. Simply unforgettable. Megan Hey! What a great trip! I wish it didn’t have to end so soon, but I know I will relive it every time a friend asks me how it went. I saw things I never thought I would see and grew even closer to the friends that joined me. I’m already thinking about where in the world I might go next! Zach What…A…TRIP!! Unfortunately, my friends and I have made it back to the states,...

May 10, 2012 - Charlotte, NC

Got our car back and our driving seperately, not fun but it will have to due. Don't want the transmission to burn again. We drove to Columbia SC and just stop for the night. Campground by the Flea Market so we walk around in the AM before leaving. We drove up to Charlotte, where we checkin at the KOA. Arriving early we took off to the Billy Graham Library. Wow not what we expected. When they say Library you think of something different. This was a wonderful dedication to God and showing Billy Graham did though his life, without any praise...

Jan 21, 2012 - Reedy Creek Park

Today we knocked off two (well 1.5 technically) more of the 100 Classic Hikes in NC. Our first stop was in Charlotte at Reedy Creek Park & Nature Preserve, one half of hike number 29. It rained most of the way down, but was just drizzling for our hike. We parked at the Nature Center and hiked along the Umbrella Tree Trail. We missed the turn off and completed the loop back to the nature center and tried again. This time, we took the turn onto the South Fork Trail and headed a ways before crossing a bridge and turning right on the Sierra...

Jan 8, 2012 - Charlotte

Ok, things have been a little more relaxed the last couple of days. Firstly, yesterday need up being a bit of a boring day at home as Jack was quite sick and so he had to stay in bed and get some sleep. He was feeling I'll the night before and he did not look good at all in the morning. Rather than get worse and have to travel sick or even worse miss out on Disney, he opted to stay at the motel and rest. He slept for A good five hours straight! This meant wee missed the Wake Forrest game, but I was able to watch it on tv instead. Then in...

Aug 1, 2011 - Charlotte and Sandy

We headed inland on I-26 and then north on I-77 yesterday and stopped at the KOA in Fort Mill, SC, about 15 miles south of Charlotte, NC. Today, Sandy Thomas, a former coworker at Associates Commercial, drove down from her home north of Charlotte for a visit. It was fun catching up and reminiscing. Unfortunately, I am out of practice and forgot to take pictures. We head out in the morning into West Virginia.

Jul 14, 2011 - Goodbye, Tennessee, Hello North Carolina

Well, goodbye Tennessee, and hello to Charlotte, North Carolina, home of the Bobcats. Took a side trip on our way to Raleigh-Durham to Charlotte check out the Bobcats arena. Nice arena with a hotel attached to it along with a hospital next door (for all those injuries!) and the practice court open to the fans. We arrived a little too late to go to the team store but what I found amusing was that there were no Bobcats jerseys in the windows - only Michael Jordan apparel. Back to the road again.

Jul 7, 2011 - Charlotte - Day 1 1/2

Well! Phew! What a long drive that was! I'm glad it's over. Today we swim! I love it. Cindy took me out on a raft so I could stay cool, wet and safe. I don't like to swim too far. I only have little legs, you know. Cindy and Holly went with my Aunt Brenda to a great restaurant that my cousin Matt works at. It's called Bistro La Bon. Have you heard of it? Cindy said she yelped it. Is that like whelp? I know what that is, but I don't understand yelp. Anyway, they had something called gnocchi. It sounds like something was stuck in her throat...

Jun 9, 2011 - 3000 Miles West

Just a quick entry so the map gets updated. We drove to Charlotte, NC on Wednesday, May 8 and dropped Suzie off at Camp BowWow for a few days while we head west to visit Bret, Jolene, & the grandkids. She seemed happy enough although it is a much more regimented place than she is used to staying when we leave her in Florida. The next entry will be from California, so the map will certainly jump around a little; this is just FYI.
