May 2, 2013 - iAvon, North Carolina
We left this morning about 9:45, we were told if we got to the beltway (495) around DC around 10:00 we wouldn't have to much traffic to deal with. On our way to Hwy 270, while we were still in town, we missed our turn and ended up in a culdesac, well we couldn't make the circle, so we had to unhook the car and get through it and hook back up. This fortunately was are only excitement during the trip. The beltway wasn't busy, I95 south wasn't too bad and before you know it we were close to the ocean around Virgina Beach. Near here is where we...

Oct 15, 2012 - First in flight
We woke to a beautiful morning and walked a mile to Church then packed up for a day of sightseeing. First up was the site of Orville and Wilbur Wright's first flight at Kitty Hawk. There was an interesting display at the visitor center and then walking the grounds where markers showed the landing spot of all four successful flights that December day in 1903. We also enjoyed the professional kite flying competition that was going on. Outside of the roped off area for the pros many people were flying kites on a perfect day for that activity....

Mar 19, 2011 - The Outer Banks
We spent last night in Wilson, NC...arriving on the Outer Banks this afternoon. It's much cooler than Florida! Windy but the sea air smells so good! We are staying at a really nice pink campground, "Times of Sand" in Avon...can't wait to take a pic of the welcome center. Driving from Wilson to here took about 4 hours, with many great pics, including too many turtles to count. More tomorrow.... Today, we drove to the ferry for Ocracoke Island. The ferry is free, a forty minute ride with car...a fun trip. We drove off the ferry, 13 miles to...

It looks like we will be able to hitch-up and depart before it starts. Later: We departed Virginia Beach by 9:30 AM. We drove into some heavy rain showers when approaching North Carolina but they didn't last long. We stopped just once at a NC Rest Area and ate our lunch...

Aug 16, 2009 - Our Journey Begins
We are about 6 weeks into our first trip on the road as retirees. We left Rowlett, TX on July 5 to meet up with friends, Polly and Ken, in Branson, MO. We made our first overnight stop in Fort Smith, AR where we promptly got locked out of the RV with few options as to what to do. After a repairman with a "master" key couldn't get the door opened, we opted to break one of the windowpanes of the emergency exit window to gain access. After a night without the security of a locked door and with a broken window, we spent 3 hours in the repair...

Nov 19, 2008 - First Flight
Here we are on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. That's one narrow piece of sand with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and 20 or 25 miles of water on the other side. No dreaming about Tsunamis, that's for sure. One good wave and we'd all be gone out here. Lots of wind out here ... but I guess that's why the Wright Brothers chose this place to experiment with their areoplane ... and be the first to fly a heavier than air self powered aero vehicle with a man on it. It's a nice museum ... and you know, we're at 105 years since that flight....

Aug 5, 2007 - Outer Banks -- Avon, NC
We are enjoying the beautiful beaches here on The Outer Banks. We went to the beach Friday and Saturday. It is easier to carry your stuff because you can drive right on the beach to the spot you want. (If you have 4 wheel-drive, that is.) The sand is very soft, and the 5-speed Subaru does fine, but if you stop in the really soft sand it can be a little hard to get going again. I think it's the manual transmission. The automatics all seem to do better because you don't have to spin so much to start off. In the 'Baru, I have to dump the...
