May 10, 2013 - Asheboro, NC

5/10-11/13, Friday and Saturday. We drove from Myrtle Beach, SC to Asheboro, NC today. It is a beautiful drive. The homes and businesses are neat as a pin. Everything is so green and beautiful, flowers everywhere, no trash anywhere. Amazing! We stayed in one of our member parks for two nights. Nice place. It has a catch and release fishing pond, lots of trees and plenty of room between sites. It was a relaxing visit.

Oct 6, 2012 - Birkhead Mountains Hike

Today, we started back with our series of hikes from Joe Miller's 100 Classic Hikes in NC, doing hike #36 from the book. This hike is in the Birkhead Mountains Wilderness area of Uwharrie National Forest. Following the book, we started from the Robbins Branch Trailhead, which is off a small gravel road off of Lassiter Mill Road. After hiking just a few minutes, we took the left fork in the trail to stay on the Robbins Branch Trail. Initially the trail had a very gentle ascent for a mile or so, passing the Thornburg Trailhead spur, then...

May 4, 2012 - North Carolina Zoo

We made it to the zoo a little after 9 this morning...us and a bazillion school kids on field trips. We counted 22 buses in one of the bus lots. All the kids were energetic, but they were mostly well-behaved. The zoo is huge, with big habitats. The walk may be long, but it is fairly easy. We started in North America with alligators and worked our way through Africa, ending with zebras (or close to it). There are three restaurants, one at the front gate in North America, one in the middle of the park, and the last at the other front gate in...

Spring Trip 2012

May 3, 2012 - to Asheboro

We had an uneventful drive to Asheboro from Wilmington. The roads were good. The weather was clear. And, the scenery was pretty. We stopped at a Cracker Barrel for lunch and had their haddock dinner...good fish. The Zooland Campground is large and well cared for. There are some people here, but the area is not crowded. We set up and fixed dinner, then watched the last segment of "Roots". That was an excellent mini-series. It was one of the first and surely set a standard for excellence for mini-series that followed. Tomorrow we are going to...

Nov 23, 2010 - New pics...

Just a catch-up on our trip so far... Today we're having a chicken fry out here at Barb's out on the fire pit. Dick's cousins are here and Dale is an expert at this we hear. ^_^ I'll have to get some pics of that! Wish you were here! Especially those of you in the 'snow belt'! ^_^ Love you all! God Bless! Nov 22, 2010 - Note...

We made it to Asheboro on Friday... North Carolina has to be one of the prettiest states!! Went to the Seagrove Pottery Festival on Saturday. Great fun!! Didn't take pictures since it was all inside and people milling about. There's a split in the Fall Festival now... a huge show is still held at the school grounds and a showing of just the Seagrove potters is in the Luck Bean Cannery. This does not mean it's a small show!! There were 90 potters set up. We found two new mugs for our new digs down in FL and an small oil lamp that matches...

Aug 9, 2010 - Zooland R.V. Park - N.Carolina State Rally

August 9 thru August 18. We arrived at Zooland Campground in Asheboro, North Carolina. Found out we cannot get cell phone connection and the air card is barely giving us one/two bars. We did put up a 30' antenna on the back ladder of the RV. We got a lightening storm the other night and worried it would strike our extended antenna. We were not hit by lightning, however, some in this area were not as lucky. We are getting calls and loosing them just as quickly, darn I hate when that happens. Guess our 35' antenna needs to go higher, still...

Apr 20, 2009 - Pottery Day....

Here is just a very brief sampling of our trip through Seagrove on the Spring Celebration day of kiln openings! Luckily it was a beautiful sunny day.... the rain held off until last night. As I've probably explained somewhere on here, there are over 100 potters in this small area and each does a unique style of pottery. We never get tired of looking. I still have a few pictures to show you of special pieces. The pictures of the Pelonia tree don't do it justice! In full bloom they're breathtaking! Here's an excerpt from a factoid on the...

Apr 18, 2009 - The Peterson's back yard!

This is a wonderful spot to spend spring!!! The leaves out here at our "camp" are coming out even more and, as you can see, the gardens are getting lush! We went to the Kiln Opening Celebration today and visited several potters...(almost bought a hand-thrown sink for our new bathroom at the cabin in Bemidji... it was beautiful... and it would have taken up about 2/3 of the space we've allocated for a bathroom!!! ^_^) Then we went to the silent auction at the Pottery Center which was interesting ...(and expensive! ha) Wait 'til you see...

Apr 16, 2009 - All in a days play at Camp Barbara

Don't know if any of you have noticed or not but about this time of year the temperatures equal out between the southern mountain areas and northern Minnesota & Wisconsin!! Especially this year... it was only 46 degrees here this AM. But when the sun comes out it gets almost balmy! You can almost watch the leaves growing... when we pulled in they were just noticeable and now they are a green canopy already. Neat. We'll get a chance to attend some kiln openings again on Saturday. That's always such a festive time here in Seagrove! The...

Apr 14, 2009 - Beach & then Camp Barbara

Here's the update to Asheboro! It was a peaceful drive up here through the countryside. We try to avoid Interstates if at all possible. We really had a great time on the coast with Ermil & Mikki! It's fun to be up here in the countryside and going out to work in the yard also. The furkids were excited to get back up here and meet up with their friends. Brandi is funny how she recognizes "old" friends from the campground and goes to lean against them!! ^_^ They both recognize places we've been before and watch for the driveways or the RV...

Apr 13, 2009 - Historic Wilmington, NC

We spent Saturday down on the River Walk area of Wilmington. The Train Museum took a long time to see it all... We didn't take the tours of the ships on the river but it was fun to see them up close. Saved for another trip! ^_^ It was interesting watching the men get the Cutter ready to ship out and all the relatives lining the dock waving to them. Just imagine what it's like when the guys will be gone for a year or more! Or going into full fledged battle like they were in,say, WWII where you couldn't get news for weeks. Today we made it...
