May 19, 2013 - Crosswind campgrounds
Slow trek north has begun. Packed up and away from the track this morning. leisurely 50 mile jaunt up the road thru the rolling hills off the interstate for a change. will point for Tennessee tomorrow and see where we end up. I guess summer is here as they have the pool open now. See Illinois is still getting snow wow not for me along with the hurricanes going thru the south central part of the country. Not a lot to report today so will sign off for now and hope enjoy their long weekend off.

May 18, 2013 - Paddling Dan River
On Saturday, we headed to Danbury for a day of paddling along the Dan River. We left the park-and-ride in Chapel Hill just before 8, arriving at the Dan River Company along the river around 10. We had about 20 people in our group and most were renting kayaks from the outfitter, but a few brought their own boats. Our launch time was not until 11, so we had some time to pay for our trip and get all ready to go. Initially we were going to do a 6-mile trip, but Chris talked to the owner and we ended up doing a 13-mile trip, starting from the...

May 18, 2013 - All Star Race 2013
Well another race week has come and gone with lots to report. We arrived at the track on Tuesday and were there until Sunday morning. We experienced all the usual weather systems from cool to vicious hot requiring the air to run all afternoon. Had lots of good food drinks and laughs with our friends from Perry Sound. Randi got in all the requisite shopping treks with Karen and has rediscovered her enjoyment of knitting of all types of coverings. Lots to see and do here in the heart of Nascar country. Met all of neighbors and enjoyed the...

May 13, 2013 - Cleaned and ready to go
After a very nice 2 peaceful nights of sleep laundry and touring about a couple of the local towns off we go to Charlotte Motor speedway tomorrow. We had intended to stop in Fort Mill for a couple of days but upon arriving the actual campground didn't quite match the description in the book so we moved a little further north to a park we did like/ Randi found her favorite clothing shop here so the clothes cupboards a little more full today, she and Karen had a great day shopping so we topped it off with a big meal at Outback restaurant...

May 10, 2013 - Miracle on the Hudson
Got to visit the airliner made famous for being landed on the Hudson River with all souls surviving. Miracle on the Hudson. It was brought down from about 3000' after striking a flock of geese. Dents (and yes, some geese blood) are visible on the fuselage though some geese were ingested by the engines, causing the demise of both. I thought the statements were interesting. ...

May 10, 2013 - Tony & Family
We stopped by Concord, NC to visit Judy's nephew (Tony) and family. We had a good visit with Tony & Michelle and the boys. We got the grand tour of their new house and the improvements they made. On Sunday (Mother's Day) they included us on a trip to pick strawberries. Yum.

May 10, 2013 - Asheboro, NC
5/10-11/13, Friday and Saturday. We drove from Myrtle Beach, SC to Asheboro, NC today. It is a beautiful drive. The homes and businesses are neat as a pin. Everything is so green and beautiful, flowers everywhere, no trash anywhere. Amazing! We stayed in one of our member parks for two nights. Nice place. It has a catch and release fishing pond, lots of trees and plenty of room between sites. It was a relaxing visit.

May 9, 2013 - Charlotte Motor Speedway
Today we moved a little South to Concord, NC which is just North of Charlotte and home to the Charlotte Motor Speedway. We found out that you can camp there very reasonably when races are not being held. They do have a big NASCAR race there the next two weekends so things are busy. We walked over to the HUGE racetrack and took a guided tour. Saw the garages, pit road and did two laps around the track in the tour van. Really some steeply banked turns! They have 8 helicopter pads beside the track as many of the car owners and drivers live...

May 6, 2013 - Monday- May 6 - Travel Day
Not much to report. We left Williamsburg this morning, heading SE to try and find a place where the weather would be better. Trying to dodge the rain. Drove through rain for most of the day. Parked now in Cross Winds RV park in Linwood, NC, between Charlotte and Greensboro. We'll stay here a few days and find places to see. Dry and sunny this evening. No photos this time. My High School Class Reunion is on May 18th near Gainesville, GA so we are gradually making our way there before returning home to Foley about May 20th.

May 4, 2013 - Frankfort, IN to Asheville, NC
Day 2 part deux: Destination - Asheville, NC Today was the first time I got to sit in the back of the bus and just watch everyone's jaw drop when they see us. It's like we are time travelers or something. The amazement on some people's faces is pretty entertaining. We had a long drive ahead of us, and Pickle's half of the caravan was having trouble keeping up with Pumbaa's lightening fast speeds. I guess that's what you get when you can't drive stick... The drive was very pretty. The trees around here got their leaves way before the trees...

May 4, 2013 - Fayetteville RV Resort & Darlington Question
Good evening all, well after a grand southern breakfast with new friends this morning we returned to the campground got packed up and went 38.7 miles to our latest camping spot. It is one of the nicer spots this trip but the highlights are we cant hear any interstate traffic no railroad whistles and by far one of the fastest WiFi signals we have had the whole trip. Talked with our friends from Perry Sound and they are close to intercepting us likely by tomorrow, will be fun to see them again and travel with them for the next 2 weeks. Next...
