May 15, 2012 - Mt. Vernon, Baltimore, Philadelphia and Woodstock

We enjoyed this portion of our trip although the challenges were definitely navigating and parking in the larger Cities. We learned Baltimore was definitely not RV friendly as we did end up with a great valet finding room in his alley spot for parking. In Philly we stayed outside of town and took the commuter train in. We were ready for the peace and quiet of Woodstock when we got there! Highlights: Mt. Vernon * Mt. Vernon was George Washington's estate which was designed in the symetrical European style popular in the day. By the time he...

Oct 6, 2011 - A Day with Dot

This day was reserved for Dot and I to spend it together. The day was beautiful and not too hot, so we decided to climb up Overlook Mountain on that gravel and dirt road that we started to walk up when Dolores was here in the Spring. It was a tough climb and we stopped to rest often. After 2 miles uphill, we came upon the ruins of the Overlook Mountain House and it was impressive. I can't believe it, but I didn't bring my camera! Here is a link that shows some of it and talks about the history. We did find a letterbox in a fireplace, but...

May 22, 2011 - Western New York

May 22-25. After leaving Niagara Falls we drove south to the town of Jamestown which is where Lucille Ball was born. We visited the Lucille Ball Museum for a couple of hours before heading east to find a place to stop for the night. At about 6pm we pulled into a highway rest area and decided to spend the night here. Mainly an area for short pit stops we knew that overnight parking was not officially ok and decided to do it anyway. No drama as a couple of trucks were doing the same thing. In the morning we headed back to Camp Lowy so Amy...

May 7, 2011 - Kentucky Derby party in Woodstock

My new friends from Carefree, Linda and Sherry spend their summers in their Woodstock home. Sherry used to give tours of Churchill Downs and loves everything about the Kentucky Derby, so they started hosting a party on the big day a few years ago. People are encouraged to make a hat for the occasion and prizes of Woodstock chimes are given for the most beautiful, most original, funniest, and horsiest. I was one of the 4 judges, along with Linda Panthen, another friend from Albany who lives fulltime in her RV and winters in Carefree. There...

Oct 3, 2008 - The Catskills

Puneet really wanted an opportunity to show his parents the beautiful autumn foliage in upstate New York, so plans were made to rent a lodge in the Catskill Mountains about three hours north of the city. It was October Fest Weekend in several of the well-known towns and accommodation was especially dear and hard to find. Puneet settled on a home in a quiet location and we made plans to visit the busy places on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Because there were six of us, we knew we would have to take both cars, so I suggested that the four...
