Aug 24, 2017 - Fun Day At The Track

Spent a lovely day in Saratoga at their famous race track. Weather was beautiful and we had great seats in the grandstand not far from the finish line. I didn't win as many races as I usually do at Turf Paradise in Arizona but it was a blast anyway. After the ninth race we went to a local Italian restaurant for dinner and then headed back to Great Barrington. Couldn't help but notice how dark it was by 8pm. Sorry to see summer coming to an end!

Jun 24, 2014 - Saratoga Springs

June 24 Saratoga Springs Well, this was definitely a day of rest for this biker chick and her man! Spent the day lounging around this amazing B&B and discovering the sites and sounds of the city. And I gotta say....we love, love. love Saratoga Springs! Such a clean, scenic, vibrant, thriving community. The downtown core is full of bistros, boutiques, pubs and shops. But not too big, only about 25,000 people live here. Lots going on and the people are so friendly. Went to an open air Cajun restaurant for supper called Mousan House. I had...

Jul 31, 2013 - Saratoga Springs, NY.

Beautiful day. Mid 70's no humidity. We took the back roads and drove to Saratoga Springs. We did our normal thing and stopped at the visitors center in the middle of a very busy downtown area. We found out it was a big weekend for the horse races celebrating 150 years of racing. We decided to drive out to the track and see if it was possible to get in. From the looks of the crowds we were a little concerned. Not a problem we parked at the track ($10.00) and had a little walk to the entrance. The crowd was hard to believe for a Wednesday...

May 9, 2013 - Saratoga Springs, NY

Since we last posted, we drove from Misty Mountain (in VA) just under 300 miles to Hamburg, PA. Then today we drove from Hamburg to Saratoga Springs, NY. First...Misty to Hamburg. Foggy mountain road for first 50/60 miles, then alternating rain and cloudy. Not fun but 81 north is a pretty good road. Our target was a Walmart in Hamburg, but WOW WOW WOW....guess what was at the same exit....the BIGGEST CABELAS STORE IN THE WHOLE WORLD! AND THEY HAVE HUGE PARKING JUST FOR RV'S.....Holy Mackerel Andy, this was a phenomenal, spectacular...

Apr 26, 2012 - Slow start from Malta to Jonestown, PA

Hey, Everybody, We made it out of Sarah's around 10:30 after Joe took the trailer back up to Alpin Haus (exit 12-16) to get 2 new 40 volt fuses. The slide wouldn't open. Apparently there'd been a surge through the unit when we installed the new battery. With that fixed we decided to shorten day one and go only as far as Jonestown (near Hershey) PA. Saw blooming trees for the first time around Scranton. A bumpy road which finally smoothed out about 10 miles from our campground. Nice to finally stop bumping. Nice clean KOA with a great...

Aug 5, 2011 - a day at the races

How can one spend August in New York without visiting the "August Place to be"? I was lured into spending the afternoon at the racetrack in Saratoga to see the horses run. It was a glorious summer day; I brought my cooler and chair and enjoyed myself figuring out which horses to bet on and watching people and horses! For almost all the races a horse I didn't pick ruined my wins! Most of the time it was horse number 2. For instance, I'd box horses 3, 5, 8 and the winners were 3, 2, 8! So, in race 6, I picked 1, 2, and 3 and 2 & 3 came in...

Jul 24, 2010 - SARATOGA RACES

Stayed at the Adirondack Gateway RV Park. It was okay but not anything special. The best part was when Cassie and Chris drove up and we went to the Saratoga races on Saturday and then we went to the Breakfast at the Track on Sunday morning before they left for home and I packed up to head 20 miles to King Phillip Campground.

Sep 25, 2008 - Day 112 to Day 116

Day 112, Sept 20, Today’s Plan; Continue West and restock the cupboards. We awake to dullness. At first we think it is cloudy, but it is only foggy. Is fall near? Actually, tomorrow, I think. After traveling half an hour, the fog has lifted and the sun shines through. We have crossed the border into New Hampshire. The scenery is much the same. There may be a few more farms, but maybe it’s because we are traveling southward. We stop for supplies at Montpelier and then turn south onto Interstate 86. It is a strain on the truck. The speed is...

Sep 23, 2008 - Saratoga Springs

@@@@@@@ KAPOORS ON THE ROAD From the moment we entered its outskirts, Saratoga was beautiful. And it just kept getting better and better. I wanted to explore a little but we needed to find a place to stay before it got dark, and we lucked out and found a large room with a kitchenette at the Carriage House Inn. The manager seemed a little disappointed that we didn’t take the colonial room with the four-poster bed and lots of drapery, but the room was so small and we had already seen the one with plenty of space and a kitchen as well. I guess...

Jul 28, 2008 - Saratoga Springs, NY

Hi out there in “Reality Land”. We have made the turn and are now heading West again. We didn’t leave our campground in Littleton until about 1 pm (had to fix a leaky kitchen faucet). We then stopped at the Yankee Candle Factory in South Deerfield, MA where Sharon and Sue loved looking at this Great? Store. We arrived here in the Saratoga Springs area just before dark. We found a fun BBQ place that had really good pulled pork sandwiches. Kool – they had reserved parking places for “Buffalo Bills Football Fans”. These are some smart well...

Sep 4, 2007 - Saratoga Springs Book Signing and Presentation

Today was not nearly as exciting as our thoughts turned to our book signing at the Saratoga Springs Public Library and our move on into Boston. Saratoga Springs is a charming little town that was in total burn-out today. Yesterday ended the six-week running of the horses at the track. Everyone was trying to recuperate from a summer that sees the population double during "the season." The van has gotten a little grimy from our 5 day trip. We looked for a campground close the city, so we wouldn't have to drive too far after the signing. We...

Jul 5, 2007 - Saratoga Springs, NY

We went to Saratoga today. What a treat that was. The countryside from Lake George to Saratoga is absolutely magnificent with all the lakes, rivers and streams in an alpine setting. Our first stop was at a beverage store to buy some Saratoga Springs Sparkling Spring Water in the Fancy Blue bottle. It is superb as far as sparkling waters go and Bob likes it better than Perrier. Next we went to the racetrack which unfortunately is closed for another three weeks, what a disappointment. We did tour the grounds which are very elegant and...
