Aug 14, 2020 - Niagara Falls

On Friday we went to Niagara Falls. We had driven up from Cleveland, Ohio late in the evening and stopped at a Walmart in Fredonia, New York, which is about an hour and a half from Niagara Falls. At first we weren't sure if we were going to see them and instead head west first, and see them later. Since they were so close to Cleveland though, we decided we had to go see them before leaving the East. - It was a toasty day but not terrible. Parking was $10. We were pretty worried about leaving the animals, so we hooked up our remote...

Sep 10, 2019 - The Falls

Niagara Falls Day 5 Travelling The train is on time and embarkation is straight forward. There is the usual debate over where to sit (Mark and I have our first barney). Mark and Marcus sit together and I sit behind. The seats are large and comfy, with plenty of leg room, electric and wi-fi (this proves to be rather intermittent). Mark soon has all electronic equipment charging (he struggles without social media). This is a nine hour journey, so thank goodness it will be a comfortable one. The scenery is wonderful and keeps me entertained....

Sep 9, 2019 - Niagara Falls Air Force Base to Missouri

We arrived at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Base and were pleasantly surprised. My father spent a number of years in the Reserves and his units were usually given the “leftovers” of an active duty base. Not so with this one. They obviously have their own funding as seen by the numerous “new” buildings on base and how well cared for the grounds and buildings are. We arrived on Monday and most reservists work just on weekends, so the base seemed a bit empty. We saw a number of civilian workers and a few folks in uniform walking around, but...

May 13, 2019 - INDY to Niagara Falls

I had a question yesterday about Caramel Frosted Gators, so I have included a picture for your enjoyment! We drove through the eastern part of Indiana, Ohio, the little tab of Pennsylvania, and into Niagara Falls, NY today. Rain, rain, rain – it has followed us across the United States. It is pouring today. One of our stops in Ohio had some Amish foods for sale – have you ever had pickled bologna or pickled garlic. We bought an unusual treat to share at our next UNO session in Indiana on the return trip – Old Fashioned Hoppin’ Frog Jam! We...

Jul 23, 2018 - Niagara Falls, NY

No visit to this area is complete without a day at Niagara Falls. We did the whole thing from the American side. Lots of walking to different viewing spots, Cave of the Winds, Maid of the Mist, and the observation deck. The area is very developed and laid out well in a NYS park, which turns out to be the first state park in the country (1885). Prior to this the entire area was privately owned and developed in an ugly way for industry due to it's hydro potential for factories, with no public access. After parking we walked along the...

Jul 22, 2018 - St. Lawrence to Niagara

Sat., July 21st – The St. Lawrence River was a busy place this morning with the annual “Poker Run” charity power boat event. We sat on the dock and patiently waited until they zoomed by in a flash. Then Steve and Bruce took off for Watertown to get a new set of tires for Bruce’s RV. Carla and I used the time for laundry…something we find hard to fit into our non-stop schedule. We finished our day with another couple of games of Joker. Sun., July 22nd – It’s almost 11pm. We just arrived back at the Niagara Falls Campground and I’m wondering...

Jul 6, 2018 - Niagara Falls

After a long drive, we finally arrived at the breathtaking falls. The area was flooded with eager tourists, all trying to make their way to the edge. We stumbled through the crowds until we got as close as possible, feeling the spray of the water on our faces. You could feel the powerful surge of the falls crushing the body of water at the bottom. The feeling was immaculate. It was interesting to see Niagara Falls from both the Canadian side and the American side.

Sep 16, 2017 - Niagara Falls

We have stayed in the Niagara Falls area four nights. Just rested the first night. The second day we took a Grey Line Tour of the Canadian side of the falls. This included a close up of he Horseshoe Falls and a trip behind them. Not much to see, just a sheet of water going by at 80 mph. However you could feel and hear the power. Later we visited Whirlpool Rapids and learned a lot about the power generation facilities on both sides. We ended the day with a trip to the top of the Skylon Tower (about 550') to view the colored lights on the...

Aug 26, 2017 - Made it to Niagara Falls!!!!

Made it to Niagara Falls New York. First time here for Patti, Kevin has been here before. We stayed a little bit north of town at Niagara Falls North KOA. It was worth staying there to be away from the noise and traffic. We set up camp and headed to the falls to see them at night. We walked across the Rainbow bridge to the Canada side of the falls. It was worth the walk, they light them up and the best view is from Canada. We walked back after dark and waited in line to go through Immigration. We got to use our renewed Passports for the...

Aug 1, 2017 - Our Summer Vacation in the East

Pennsylvania and New York State We were scheduled to meet friends Carson and Diane at Gettysburg. They were bringing their motorcoach from North Carolina, and we planned to spend a few weeks touring through Pennsylvania and New York State in concert with them. We left Indianapolis, and as we entered The Keystone State, we were closing in on an attraction that has been on our list for a long time. Tucked away in the sleepy forests of southwestern Pennsylvania sits one of the world’s most famous buildings: Frank Lloyd Wright’s...

Jun 20, 2017 - Niagara Falls, NY.

We drove I90 toll road all the way here from Ashtabula Ohio. It's the fastest route with not much to see. We did this drive about 20-25 years ago and drove through Erie PA. Erie was pretty abandoned at that time. We spent 4 days at Niagara Falls. It was the highlight of the trip for Ava. Again we planned our activities around rain. Being at the falls the rain didn't matter. We were wet one way or the other. Papa took Ava through the Cave of the Winds. It's a natural cave behind Bridal Veil Falls. It is some 130 feet high. You follow...
