From Maine to Vermont crossed New Hampshire, a total of 40 miles. Saw the White Mountains of New Hampshire and the Green Mountains of Vermont. Passed through many typical small New England towns. Camped on the banks of the Onion River just north of Montpelier, Vermont. The next day, continued our journey through New England by traveling northwest through the rest of Vermont, following US Highway 2 from...

Aug 31, 2012 - We saw the enemy but they saw us first

We are just outside of Massena NY camping in a state park right on the St. Lawrence River. It was a hectic day. We did get the truck and get out of the campground almost on time. I dropped Shirley off to do some shopping while I took the truck and camper to get the front end aligned. While I was there I walked to a small restaurant for lunch and they asked me to sign the picture of Shirley and me that was in the Watertown paper. Ten minutes of fame. We headed on our way at 2 pm and stopped in Ogdensburg to see the Frederic Remington museum...

Jul 31, 2012 - Last night on the road...this trip

Hi, Everyone, Well we've made it to Massena. Crossed back into the US with NO issues...amazing! It was such a nice day when we did that we decided to not go home just yet. We spent the night at a huge, clean, wonderful campground in Massena, near the Grasse River. We're surrounded by Canadians from Ontario, tons of them here. Based upon prices in CA and prices here I can see why. Lots of them are seasonally here. Very long term set ups with decks and even storage sheds at some sites. It's a really good campground...older but clean. We did...

Oct 2, 2010 - The St Lawrence Seaway

Today was a driving day. We took the river route which followed the St Lawrence River/Seaway. We both even took time to get our feet wet in the St Lawrence near the entrance to Lake Ontario. We are camping tonight at the Robert Moses State Park in Massena, NY. Amazing, when I called, the young lady said it was $21/a night camping, but when we got there, they added an “out of state visitor” fee, a “no reservation” fee (and when I called, they said they didn’t take reservations) and a couple other fees, that by the time we were done, the fees...

Sep 7, 2008 - Alexandria Bay, New York

This morning Glenna and I headed out to our first National Carriage Rally, at Essex Junction, Vermont. We drove east along the 401 past Kingston to the Thousand Island bridge and into the U.S.A. Glenna loves castles, so our first stop was the Boldt Castle on Heart Island, one of the Thousand Islands. At age thirteen and by himself, George Boldt emigrated to New York City from Northern Germany. He worked in the hotel industry and worked his way up to management. He married the daughter of a hotel owner from Pennsylvania. His wife Louisa had...

Sep 30, 2007 - Thousand Islands, on toward Vermont

On our way out of Rochester, we passed the world HQ of Eastman-Kodak, INC which was an impressive several blocks of brick and steel buildings. Yesterday we passed a building in Niagara Falls Canada, that was the world HQ of Mentolatum since 1870-something and a couple of days ago we passed the world HQ of Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing (3M) that makes scothch tape and sticky notes - this tour is also becoming a history of American Commerce lesson. Aug 6, 2006 - Boldt Castle; Eisenhower Lock

August 6 - Our objective today was to reach Westville Center near where we plan to cross over into Canada. When we got near Alexander City on the St. Lawrence Seaway, we saw a sign advertising Boldt Castle. It was about 10:30 so we thought we would check it out. We stopped at a rest stop with an information booth and picked up a brochure, got a phone number and called to see if there was a place to park the motor home. They said yes, pull into the information center at such and such exit and you can leave the motor home parked there and we...
