Jul 31, 2012 - Home to dirty truck and rutted driveway
Hey Guys We're HOME! We made it back up the road and the Cougar is parked in it's "guest room" site. Which is amazing considering that the driveway's rutted out in front of where it sits. It's not fully cleaned out (it took a couple of days to pack and we've only added stuff) so it'll probably take a couple of days to empty. We've put over 13,072 miles on the truck and have hours of pictures and memories. Thank you God, for such a safe journey! Thanks to, to all of you for your interest and support along the way. We're having a bit of a let...

Jul 18, 2011 - Lake Placid - USA

Jun 10, 2011 - OH WOW !
Well I have written this before and somehow it disappeared, frustrating. But the past two days have been FANTASTIC. I am a HUGE US Olympic fan. We went to the Holy Grail for me. The Herb Brooks Arena the home of the 1980 US AMATEUR victory over the Russian PROFESSIONAL team. The US went on to the gold medal victory over Norway. It gave me goose bumps. The Olympic 1932 & 1980 Museum was fantastic. Two times winternOlympicspics were held in this small Adirondack town of Lake Placid. We also went to the ski jump venue. WOW. We are now at...

Jun 9, 2011 - A Roaming Tale
OK so it has been a while since I wrote the blog. Thanks to Shirley for keeping it up. Here is the real story. My father got lost in Alexandria Bay and it took me two days to find him. After taking him off the little island with the two room cottage, we both had to swim to shore and the St.Lawrence river water in June is COLD COLD! Obviously just kidding. We were on an island close to Canada and Verizon texted me that my roaming charges were near $50! So I turned my phone off which meant no Internet and thus no blog from moi. Anyway what a...

Oct 5, 2010 - Final notes
FINAL NOTES Travel Tips are bolded Without planning it, our trip took us to places of the past three presidents and two first ladies, one who is currently the Secretary of State! One other surprise was that there was no sign of a recession in either the hospitality industry, restaurants, hotels, etc.; or in the retail industry. In other words, hotels, restaurants and shops were full. There were no bargains to be found! We hope you enjoyed reading about and seeing pictures of our “No Reservations 30 Day Trip to New England” and hope you can...

Aug 15, 2010 - A Hike Along Lake Placid Shore
August 15 – A Morning Hike Along Lake Placid Shore This morning was cool and just right for a hike. We choose to take a hike along the shore of Lake Placid on a peninsula northwest of the town of Lake Placid. Yesterday, we picked up directions and hiking trail guide at the Information Center in Lake Placid. The trail was shaded and rough with tree roots but a pleasant experience. For lunch, we stopped at The Lake Placid Pub & Brewery where we enjoyed the sampling of 6 of their beers and tasting their tender brisket and a HOT buffalo...

Aug 14, 2010 - Gondola Ride to Little Whiteface Peak and Tour of Lake Placid, NY
August 14 – Gondola Ride to Little Whiteface Peak and Tour of Lake Placid, NY After a KOA breakfast of pancakes and hashbrowns/eggs, we headed southwest to Lake Placid. On the way, we stopped at Whiteface Mountain to ride the gondola to the top of Little Whiteface Mountain. The 1932 and 1980 Olympics were held in the Lake Placid area and the ski racing competition was held on the Whiteface Mountain slopes. The sky was blue but the horizon was hazy. During the ride up and down, we were by ourselves and the gondola did not swing or...

Jul 25, 2010 - Day 135 - Iron Man - Lake Placid 2010!
Well, I found out I wasn’t boxed in, but once I left my road, I couldn’t return the same route …it was a one-way to Lake Placid and back to Wilmington and it was the long loop. But every mile was exhilarating. As I drove one direction, the bikers were coming at me the other. They had their 2 ½ mile swim at 7 a.m. and as they passed me, they were on their 110 mile bike ride! It was a single loop that they circled twice. Up and down, but not severe grades. I was very impressed. But seeing them running the marathon was breathtaking. I drove...

Jul 24, 2010 - Day 134 - Adirondack environs
Hunter and I didn’t accomplish much of anything today. We did have a very short travel day…from space #86 to space #111. I now have full hookups and cable and my truck fits. It’s a nice roomy spot. We basically explored more of the area…Lake Placid lake and the surrounding environs. It’s peaceful country and just feels good. Gloomy again most of the day and a bit of a downpour, but it was brief. I was surprised to see all the bikers out again today. I would have thought the day before the big race would be a day of rest. Shows how much I...

Jul 23, 2010 - Day 133 - Whiteface Mtn. and Lake Placid village
Today Hunter and I explored the area, stopping for photos and just smelling the air. We drove to the top of Whiteface Mtn which is the only 'tall mountain' in the Adirondacks that sports a road to the top. The view was great even though it was gloomy and misty. It sprinkled just a bit but not enough to keep us in the truck. We also drove to the village of Lake Placid which is right on Mirror Lake. Wouldn't ya know! I will drive to the lake of Lake Placid tomorrow which is down at the far end. Lake Placid is a beautiful ragged donut shape...

Jul 22, 2010 - Day 132 - STATE #32 - NEW YORK (I was sleeping in NJ before)
Thoroughly enjoyed my travel day today! I decided to take the ferry across Lake Champlain to New York making my travel day a mere 60+ miles to my destination. Instead of the ferry at the wharf in Burlington, however, I took the ferry that docked about 25 miles south of the city. What fun! And what a beautiful day for a ferry ride. I know, y'all think I already have New York on my list of stops. But, nope, I was sleeping in my 5th wheel in New Jersey! All the roads to Wilmington were tiny country roads and all in wonderful shape. It was...

Jun 18, 2010 - Au Sable Chasm, Wilmington Flume, Lake Placid, NY
Today we drove a loop from the campground to Lake Placid enjoying the beautiful mountain scenery. We stopped at the Au Sable Chasm - it is a sandstone gorge just south of the campground and is amazing with the river creating one tall waterfall and 4 or 5 shorter ones in one area. The highway department was nice enough to build a pretty bridge over the chasm with sidewalks on both sides so we could enjoy the view without worrying about traffic. The bridge was probably built a long time ago since the chasm has been a tourist attraction for...
