Oct 25, 2012 - OTRA - NY - Harpursville

As we start our southward journey, it’s hard to find campgrounds that are still open in the northern states but we knew the Belden Hill Campground outside of Binghamton NY was still open for overnighters since we stayed there the exact same date in 2010. This time, however, instead of traveling along I-90 through NY (toll road), we took I-390 then I-86 down through Corning then east on NY 17. Nice drive until we got to Elmira and then the road turned terrible! Bumpy, lousy bridge connections, etc. I was afraid for our little house on...

Sep 10, 2012 - Belden Hills, NY

The adventure has begun. Where to start, you know with a lead in like this it is going to get interesting. We left Maine Sunday morning and it has been pretty much up-hill ever since (even tho we’re going south). Last winter I had down loaded several audio books to my ipod, but we listen to none on the way up, operator (me) claiming that technician (him) had not loaded them correctly. Before we left, I checked my work and all seemed to be just fine, just had to press the right arrow and chapter 1 followed chapter 2 and so on. Well! The...

2012 Gettysburg

Oct 11, 2011 - GETTING READY

<<R>E>4>I>B>I can't believe that the summer is gone and it's time to travel south again. The plan back in May was to return to the Southwest this winter and stay at Lake Havasu but, Sam had a totally unexpected reoccurance of his mast cell tumor and we had to have his ear flap removed. That was a monster charge and so, the travel budget is severly depleted. Now we have plans to travel back down the East Coast and, eventually, wind up in Gulf Shores AL. I spent a week at the KOA there last fall and...

Oct 25, 2010 - OTRA - NY - Harpursville

Since the drive from Caledonia NY to Quakertown PA is over 5 hours and since we're not spring chickens anymore, we usually stop somewhere along the way for a night or two. We wanted to stop at the Country Hills Campground in Marathon NY where we stayed last year on the way up but it closed October 15th so I found another on just a bit north of Binghamton, NY that stays open for short term stays 'til the end of the month. We debated on whether we wanted to take the northern route, east on I-90 to south I-81 or the southern route, south on...

Oct 7, 2010 - GETTING READY

I just lost a LONG post so, my patience is worn thin.... I've been back at Belden for almost 2 months now and it's time to head south. I have an appt with Camping World in Bath NY on Oct 12th to get the long awaited Hydraulic jack installed and will camp up there on the 12th and 13th just to make sure the hydraulic system works like it's supposed to and then head south from there. A week from today I'll be on the road...first stop will be Petersburg VA just for an overnight and then on to Murrell's Inlet SC just outside of Myrtle Beach....

Mary's RV Wanderings

Jun 22, 2010 - Gettin To Know You

I know I started a "blog" on another site but, this site seems very "traveler" friendly so, I'm making an executive decision to change sites. I've been here at Belden about 2 1/2 weeks now and am settling into the "seasonal" camper mode..I visit with my neighbors and yesterday my immediate neighbor and I went to lunch and shopping...how neighborly is that. The campground is very much seasonal with only a few overnighters so, most of the people know each other well and do get together for partys and bbq's. I'll be leaving in a couple of...

Mary's RV Wanderings

Oct 10, 2009 - Harpursville, NY

We reluctantly must head south; it's just too cold here. The RV Park is sold out for the Columbus Day weekend so we got going early to beat the rush out of town. It was a cool, wet, windy, dreary day. Luckily, we had planned a short day...about 170 miles to Harpursville, just a little north of Binghamton. We had called for a reservation because of the holiday weekend and when we arrived, the owner seemed happy to see us because he was expecting us yesterday....I know I clearly said Saturday night; oh well, availability wasn't a big issue...

Oct 3, 2009 - Harpursville, New York

October 3 – Saturday Our day started out cloudy and threatening rain at 12 degrees this morning as we left Vermont and crossed the border into New York. We travelled 333 kilometers today, arriving at our campsite at Belden Hill, New York by 2:30 this afternoon. We took country roads this morning to pass Albany as we were told the traffic through there is terrible. Thankfully we bypassed the big cities and the road was good. It is a beautiful sunny afternoon with the thermometer reaching 22 degrees so we are enjoying the quiet, relaxing time...

Hilzberry Travels

Sep 26, 2009 - Harpursville, New York

We took Route 6 across northern Pennsylvania and into New York State. Some people say it is one of the most beautiful rides in the country, and it is really pretty. As we head north, the trees are becoming more and more alive with brilliant colors of Fall; and the leaves are blowing in the wind past our windows now. We made it to “upstate” New York, which is not a pretty as I remembered it to be years ago. The colors seemed a little dimmer, and the houses a little shabbier. There appears to be a difference between the New England folks way...
