Jun 4, 2019 - Visting with Aunt Thelma

We started off to Fishkill at 10:40 this moring after a good nights sleep. Our GPS said it was 162 miles, about 2hrs. 28 minutes. But with slow driving traffic, going down to one lane multiple times & sometimes even to a stand still on I84, We arrived at 2:00. Aunt Thlema welomed us sweetly into her home. We parked the bus in a vacant lot she owns next to her house for the night. After sharing family photos, Paul & I went to pick up chinese food for us all to enjoy. With plenty to leave with Aunt Thelma & some for us to take along on our...

Oct 21, 2013 - West Point and Bear Mountain

Fishkill, NY Since we had to wait for our tour of West Point, we grabbed our tickets and scooted down the road to Bear Mountain. The park at the foot of the mountain is beautiful and included the Trailside Zoo and Museum. What a gorgeous setting for a zoo! The zoo is also right next to the Hudson River and the Bear Mountain Bridge, both cool sights. We wandered around the small zoo and went through the museums. We then found the winding road to Bear Mountain summit. There is a great view of the Hudson River valley from on top and it was...

Oct 20, 2013 - Hyde Park

Fishkill, NY It took us only 3 days to make it out of Rhode Island, across Connecticut and into New York! Surely we set some kind of a record. Before we left Groton, however, Jim wanted to see if we could get onto the sub base. He figured if we could not, they would simply say no, and that would be the end of it. Instead a stern marine very gruffly informed him there were no tourists allowed. He took Jim’s driver’s license and called in both the driver’s license and car license. Apparently there were no warrants out on us as he gave the...

Oct 11, 2010 - back in New York

5 states in one day - NH, VT, Mass, CT, and NY. A stop in Newfane, VT, noted as one of the most picturesque villages in New England yielded some fun pictures of beautiful old buildings with fall colors. A drive through the Berkshires and on into New York. Today was a challenge to find camping - our original destination had closed for the season and our second attempt put us on the narrowest highways with the fastest NY drivers (about 70 miles north of NYC) in a thunder, lightning and rainstorm - after we got on the road we realized that...

Oct 4, 2008 - Florida Vacation / Visit

9/30/08 Tuesday OK...we're finally off for our vacation to Florida. Made 255 miles to Fishkill, New York before settling in at the local Walmart for the night. Trip was a little nerve wracking due to the sudden appearance of a brake warning light that I'd never seen before. Brakes seemed to be working OK so we plodded on....then after having supper at Cracker Barrel, the trailer wheels made bad noises while going the half mile to Walmart. Settled for a questionable night's sleep with my head trying to figure what to do. 10/1/08...
