Oct 7, 2012 - Golf in Cooperstown
Oct. 7, 2012 –Today was a golf day for me. We had seen some beautiful golf courses going into Cooperstown, particularly the Old Leatherstocking course that was right next door to the Fenimore Art Museum and right across the street from the Farmer’s Museum. . I had checked yesterday to confirm that they had tee times; I even set a tee time for 9:42 am. One of the fellow travelers Fred had said that he was interested in playing golf, so I had made the tee time for 2. But the temps were in the 40s when I knocked on Fred’s door, and he said it...

Oct 6, 2012 - Baseball Hall of Fame, Fenimore Art mueseum, Farmer's Museum and pizza
Oct. 6, 2012- Another rainy day for our tour, but luckily most of it was on the inside. We drove into Cooperstown to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame. For some reason I thought it would be much bigger than it was, but while the outside of the building was less than I expected, the inside was a comprehensive presentation of the development of the game and the important people and events that made it as successful as it is today. I particularly enjoyed seeing special tributes to players that I admired in my youth like Mickey Mantle, Whitey...

Oct 5, 2012 - On to the Baseball Hall of Fame
Oct. 5, 2012-Today we traveled to Cooperstown, home of the baseball Hall of Fame. We went through three states today—New Hampshire, Vermont, and finally New York. I had not spent much time in western New York and knew little about it. I was surprised at how beautiful and accessible it is. Fall colors just kept on coming and were even more spectacular here. Today was a long travel day for this caravan—over 280 miles. We had a good distance to cover, and we had no trouble managing it, although we were a little later than I thought we would...

Sep 16, 2012 - Cavern, Baseball and Indian Summer Day
We woke up at 8 am and it was 48 outside. Don’t know if it ever got down to 39 as predicted. What a gorgeous day we had today. The locals were all calling it an Indian Summer Day. Bright, beautiful and in the mid 60’s. It is not officially fall yet but it sure did look it and feel it this early morning. We left Oneonta (by the way that is the name of the elementary school I attended in South Pasadena a zillion years ago) at 9 am. Decided to drive the freeway as we had a busy day planned. Well, the views from the freeway were lovely....

Aug 10, 2011 - visiting the hallowed grounds
Wednesday, August 10, 2011 Today was for the Baseball Hall of Fame. I’m sure Ron would have had much more fun going through it with Cindy or George, but there you are! And we could have wished David was here, to knock everyone else off the Leader Board for the Trivia Contest. It’s not hard to remember that you are in New York at the Museum. Even Cal Ripken’s achievements were over-shadowed by Lou Gehrig’s lesser accomplishment. But I guess New York has never gotten over trading Dempsy to us, and they never will. It was reasonably...

Aug 9, 2011 - you can't get there from here
So who knew that we'd have to go south, into Pennsylvania, in order to go north to Cooperstown! A fine trip, somewhat rainy, but not much traffic. Another funky campground -- they have 100 sites, we are in a row all by ourselves, right across the road from the campers with the most children. Not that we mind children, but they don't have a lot of respect for other people's campsites. And they have a dog that isn't leashed, and who growled and ran at Gaia. There's also a cat stranded somewhere around here who keeps crying pitifully. We'll...

Jul 13, 2011 - Final day of play
Caleb's playing days at cooperstown are over. The tournament started this morning and the Pirates lost in the first round. Got off to a good start, but couldn't keep it going. The team lacks speed and they can't beat grounders to first base so it is hard to score runs. Got to have runners on the bases! We are enjoying our family time. Elisa' s family leaves tomorrow and the rest of us on Friday. Beautiful place and area. Ann

Jul 12, 2011 - More games
It is tuesday, and the Pirates have played one game. Guess what! They lost again! Andy would love to get in there and help with coaching, but that isn't going to happen. Caleb didn't play much this morning and we don't know yet about this afternoon. They have another game in an hour, so I will report after that.

Jul 11, 2011 - Day two
Day two of games, and we are not off to a good start. Played an excellent team from Kansas and lost in a "mercy" game. Score 19-1! The winning team was very gracious-didn't drive up the score. We go back this afternoon for another game. Wish us luck! Game two, and another loss. These kids are playing their hearts out and it kills us to see them lose again. Caleb was starting pitcher and did well. He had one fantastic double play where he caught thw line drive and doubled off the runner at second base. The kids are having a ball, and Sara...

Jul 10, 2011 - First day of games
Not a great day today. Caleb's team played two games and lost both of them. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day for the Pirates. As for me, I am enjoying the beauty of the scenery, watching over 1000 12 year old boys play baseball, and being with my kids and grandkids. What is better than that?

Jul 9, 2011 - Play Ball!
Hi, We are all in Cooperstown to be with Caleb as he participles in a week of all things baseball. We are staying in a house that is a renovated barn, and it is great! There is a pond in the back yard and there is fishing. Vi and Ruth are coming today, he will love it! Caleb checked in yesterday and Erik went to have breakfast with him this morning. All the teams stay at the park in dorms. There are about 104 teams of 11 or 12 boys each, all 12 years old. At least we hope they are! That's a lot of boys! This afternoon Caleb will be in "the...

Jun 6, 2011 - Glimmerglass State Campground
We spent two nights at the Glimmerglass State Campground located in Cooperstown, NY. Glimmerglass is a small park that is located a short drive from downtown Cooperstown, NY. The park has 37 sites with no hookups. While we were there we walked along their beautiful lake beach, and found a covered bridge near by. Their Black Locus trees were in full bloom.
