Jun 16, 2012 - Buffalo NY

Saturday, we drove to Buffalo and had "Chicken Wings" at the Anchor Bar where they were created. The story is - On a Friday night in 1964 Dominic Bellissimo was tending bar at the now famous Anchor Bar Restaurant. Late that night, a group of his friends arrived and wanted something to eat. Dominic asked his mother, Teressa, to prepare something for his friends. She had deep fried Chicken Wings, a part of the chicken that usually went into the stock pot for soup. She flavored them with a secret sauce, served them to her son's friends. they...

Nov 15, 2011 - Back in America - just!

We are now in the USA, by the skin of our teeth. We had a difficult discussion and were seriously fearful at one point that we were going to be turned back into Canada. In the end they decided to "honour" the six months admission we were allowed on the 4th of August. So we are now stamped in until 3 February 2012, with a strong implication that we needn't bother trying to cross in again for quite awhile. So we now have a definite end date for our North American adventure. We will probably target the motorhome on a boat by no later than the...

Oct 17, 2011 - Buffalo, NY

Got up this morning and Betty had a card on the table and then she and Mike sang "Happy Birthday". Because we managed to leave the dirty clothes in Windsor, we had to go shopping and buy a sleep shirt and some underwear for the rest of the trip. Betty was having some problems with 1 of the bathrooms so it was off to Home Depot for a part for the toilet and then we drove around the lake area in Buffalo and watched the waves splashing over the sea wall. the wind has been blowing around 40mph all day. Off to Schwabl's for lunch. Betty's great...

Apr 30, 2011 - Worst day ever.

Why you don't try and travel with a hangover. So, I thought it would be really fun to take my girlfriend on a lovely evening in Buffalo in a "four star" hotel I scored off of priceline. I also thought it would be a great idea to get shitfaced the night before. None of these things turned out to be awesome. I learned the following things. 1) Casinos suck, and we were just lucky that one time in Vegas. 2) There is nothing awesome about Buffalo. 3) MAKE SURE TO PACK EVERYTHING YOU WILL NEED. 4) The boarder is mean to French people. 5) I need...

Leg #1 is now completed! We made it all the way to Buffalo today; it was a long drive, but I'm glad we decided to drive that kind of distance on the first day while we were still fresh. Hope behaved well in the car because all of her toys and books were new to her. Tomorrow, I'm afraid, may not go as well. Wildlife sightings for today: 2 turkeys in Dayton, ME 1 naked dude on top of an abandoned box truck, drinking a beer and sunning himself - along the highway in MA/NY area dead deer - on side of the highway in New York state No photos for...

Summer 2010

Jun 8, 2010 - Rust and Renewal

Impressions of Lackawanna Our destination today is Niagara Falls. To get to Niagara Falls we are going through Buffalo and to get to Buffalo we are going through Lackawanna - two towns that have a tough reputation. I say that because my aunt and uncle used to have a grocery store in Lackawanna and everyone in the family worried about them. It was a hard city they said, cold in the wintertime, hot in the summertime, dirty and dangerous all of the time. I was curious to see what Lackawanna looks like today. We came in from the south, along...

Journey To Life

Aug 10, 2009 - OH, PA and NY

Today we left Shipshewana and new friends. We were just over into Ohio and stopped at a little intersection to use the camper for a "rest" time. We were locking up the camper when "BAM". Two big trucks had a wreck right in front of us! We were able to get out of there before the traffic got tied up by making a block around the intersection. Then on to Cleveland OH. We went straight though the middle of it. I don't do big towns well. I am a nervous wreck by this time, Freddy is cool taking it all in stride. Then on to PA, and along the south...

Jul 29, 2009 - Go West Young Man !

We are on our way for a third year of adventure. We left Morrisville Monday morning, arriving at the dealership in Lockport a few hours later. This is the place where we purchased our home on wheels last year and we wanted them to check it over for us before heading west. After unhooking, we checked into our motel and then headed to North Collins where my niece Angela and her family lives. On February 28th, Angela had a baby boy, Matthew, whom I had not met yet. It had also been over a year since I had seen the other children. Oh yes, it...

May 20, 2009 - Hamburg, NY - Drive Along Lake Erie

(Ron Writing) This morning we left Ashtabula, OH and continued our route east along the south side of Lake Erie. We took OH-531 and US-20 to Pennsylvania. We continued on PA-5 right along the Lake and then crossed into New York. In NY we followed NY-5 which is marked as a scenic route right along the lake. We had beautiful weather and the drive was very enjoyable. We drove through many small towns and were often in sight of the lake. We are parked for the night at a Wal*Mart in Hamburg, NY just south of Buffalo at the east tip of Lake Erie.

Sep 24, 2008 - Off To Buffalo, Dc And Miami

9/24 We departed Bath, NY at 2:00 AM for the Buffalo, NY International Airport-- a one hundred fifty mile jaunt-- for our trip to Brazil. Our oldest son took us to the airport. Since he is a working man--needing to be at work by 6:00 AM, we headed out extra early for the 10:am flight-- first leg to Washington, DC. The second leg would be from DC to Miami. United Airlines was on time and the flights were routine-- no problems. Miami was a different story. No one seemed to know were the Tam Airline terminal was located.
