26 march Odometer reading today 3615, we put 2700 miles on the new motor home. On the road from Roswell to White Sands Testing Range. Climbing up in elevation slowly and views are changing from flat deserted to hills then mountains in the distance. We stopped at the Hubbard Museum of the American West in Ruidoso Downs, NM. They had an amazing collection of quilts that are real works of art and western life artifacts. From there we continued to drive towards our destination. In the late afternoon, we arrived at the big attraction for the day, the White Sands National Monument. We are at the northern end of the Chihuahuan Desert that goes a long way into Mexico. We are in a valley in the desert, the Tularosa Basin, which is surrounded by mountains. Rising from the heart of the basin is a great natural wonder - the glistening white sands of New Mexico, which cover 274 square miles.
