Apr 14, 2014 - Fort Selden

A day trip to Fort Selden. It should be noted that General Douglas MacArthur lived here as a small child. He stated that he learned to Ride and Shoot here before he learned to Read and Write. With references to Fort Thorn, Fort Filmore, and the Battle of Glorieta Pass

Oct 11, 2013 - Rockin & Rollin

Good Morning Everyone. - The winds started blowing early yesterday and increased as the day went on. Can you believe it was so windy in NM that it blew railroad cars off the tracks not far from Albuquerque. We had some real strong gusts that really rocked the RV. Can you believe that in all that wind some of the RV's pulled out of the park and were headed out on the road. Not me !!! If I absolutely had to get out of our site I would have moved to the dry camp area and waited a day. Our rig isn't too bad on a windy day but why take a...

Oct 10, 2013 - Our New Camera and Last Nights Sunset

We decided it was time to buy a new camera as the old one is being held together with rubber bands. I went to check out the ones at Walmart thinking I would get the best bang for the buck there. I looked over the ones they had and found one that I liked. It's a Fujifilm Finepix S4830 with 16 Megapixels, 24MM wide-angle lens and a powerful 30X Zoom. It came with a carry case, a 8GB SDHC card and a coupon for 100 prints at Walmart. I think we are going to like this new camera. - Yesterday was originally our departure day but I was able to...

Oct 7, 2013 - Our Sunday In Old Mesilla New Mexico

First of all Bob suggested I write the trip journal this morning. Our Sunday started out going to church in one of the old historic church's in the Mesilla Valley called "Basilica of San Albino". It was established by order of the Mexican government in 1851. In 1906 the present building was constructed on the foundation of the original adobe church and the bells of San Albino date to the early 1870's. We always love going to the old mission churches and have been to so many across this country of ours traveling with our RV. They are all...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Oct 5, 2013 - South to Raduim Springs

Earlier this week we departed Albuquerque and headed south on Interstate 25 to Exit 19, the Radium Springs exit. It was a slow and uneventful 209 mile drive which took a little over 4 hours. I don't drive fast and I don't drive much over the 4 hours a day. If I was in a hurry I would but what do I have to be a hurry for. - Radium Springs is the home of Leasburg Dam State Park and also the ruins of Fort Selden. It is also the home of a "closed" Fred Harvey House with the Radium Springs Bath House. If you're not familiar with Fred Harvey...

Mar 24, 2012 - Getting The Trailer Repaired

Getting The Trailer Repaired Mar 24, 2012 We've been here at Leasburg Dam SP for several days now waiting for a new electronic control board. Let me back up just a little. On Mar 19 we broke camp at Oliver Lee SP and drove back down to Camping World in Anthony, TX. We had gone back so we could have the teflon glides installed under the ends of the sliders. The original ones had started to break up very badly and Dutchman agreed to replace all 6 of the glides. The main, entertainment and bedroom sliders were to be done. When we pulled into...
