Jun 8, 2010 - Wild Rivers Recreation Area

Today was devoted to touring the Wild Rivers Wilderness Area, deep canyons where the Rio Grande and Red Rivers join. I regret I did not bring my float boat (still in the box) as the Rio Grande has some class 5 and 6 rapids, a great test for me and the new boat. I made a short hike into the canyon, .4 miles down and of course .4 miles up (500 foot drop) to prepare for a 1.2 mile jaunt to the La Junta, (where the rivers meet for you Anglos) and it goes without saying it is 1.2 miles back up. Tuesday, June 01, 2010. Left Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque for a nice 160 mile drive to Questa, NM (7600'). Passed through Santa Fe, Taos and the smaller towns of Espanola and Chimayo. I forgot that Taos is a one lane town, that is, there is one lane going north through the town and one going south through the town. If you’re in a hurry you have plenty of time to look around as you drive through. I guess that applies whether or not you’re in a hurry actually.
