Sep 20, 2017 - South Fork, CO to Questa, NM

This morning we said goodbye to Travis & Tanna (owners of Riverbend Resort) & hit the road. Our route took us thru Manassa to San Luis & then to Questa - where we're staying in the Sierra Hermosa RV Park. We enjoyed the views on our drive today & love the views from our site here in Questa. We're looking forward to exploring the Enchanted Circle & seeing the Rio Grande Gorge while we're here. More later...

Jul 17, 2017 - On a Quest for Cool Weather!

I think that we have found a little bit of heaven. At least it feels heavenly here in Questa, New Mexico! After the steam bath of previous weeks, temps in the high 90’s and humidity right up there too, it is wonderful to be where the sun shines but the temps never get much above 80 and the humidity is non-existent! Questa is about 20 miles or so north of Taos and the reason we are here is because RV parks are very expensive in Taos. We chose to stay at Sierra Hermosa RV Park because it is very reasonable using our Passport America...

Sep 27, 2013 - Day Trip: Questa, NM

We set the alarm for 5:30. We do not hear it. Fortunately, we are awake on our own. We arrive at the tackle shop at 7:00 as directed. The trip is for 7:30. Our guide Scott arrives and we are off the Questa. John will be fishing the Red River below the fish hatchery. It is a wade trip. It takes a half hour to get to the parking area and then we hike. Scott stops. There is a tarantula walking across the trail. It is headed to a small round hole. No way it can fit in that hole. We are wrong. My day is made. John fishes in several areas. He...

Jun 8, 2010 - Wild Rivers Recreation Area

Today was devoted to touring the Wild Rivers Wilderness Area, deep canyons where the Rio Grande and Red Rivers join. I regret I did not bring my float boat (still in the box) as the Rio Grande has some class 5 and 6 rapids, a great test for me and the new boat. I made a short hike into the canyon, .4 miles down and of course .4 miles up (500 foot drop) to prepare for a 1.2 mile jaunt to the La Junta, (where the rivers meet for you Anglos) and it goes without saying it is 1.2 miles back up. I waited until was hot, 12:20 PM to miss the...

Jun 1, 2010 - Questa, NM

Tuesday, June 01, 2010. Left Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque for a nice 160 mile drive to Questa, NM (7600'). Passed through Santa Fe, Taos and the smaller towns of Espanola and Chimayo. I forgot that Taos is a one lane town, that is, there is one lane going north through the town and one going south through the town. If you’re in a hurry you have plenty of time to look around as you drive through. I guess that applies whether or not you’re in a hurry actually. The last 6 miles into Questa are like a roller coaster or maybe even ski jumps, very...
