Pancho Villa State Park was established to commemorate Pancho Villa's raid into Columbus, New Mexico. It was the last time we were attacked in the US until 2001 and the twin towers in New York. General Pershing and his troops chased Villa for months in Mexico, but never managed to catch him. The park itself has extensive cactus gardens, some of which are in very good shape, and some that are definitely in need of help (maybe water?). We did some birding, but did not see much new. There was an immense cholla cactus just outside our campsite...
