We wheeled out of the campground right at 10:00 and headed one exit east on I-40, then south and west on Hwy 53 towards the El Morro National Monument. It has been a national monument since 1906 and while there isn’t a whole lot there, what is there is really neat. At the base of the cliffs is a year-round pool of water that has drawn Pueblo Indians and travelers from the days of the early Spanish explorers. We left the campground north of ABQ right at 9:30 and pulled into the booming metropolis of Milan NM right at 11:00. The campground isn’t much to look at, but at $21 a night, it will do for a couple nights. We had planned to do some tourist things about 45 miles away, but it wouldn’t work out timing-wise so we figured we would just hang out today and do our touristy things tomorrow, but we got pretty bored so off we went with a revised scheme. We decided to go check out El Malpais National Monument which is only about 15 miles from here....
