Oct 6, 2011 - Lakewood, New Mexico

10/6 – 10/9 Two days brought us 274 miles to The Ranch campground in Lakewood, New Mexico. The first night we stopped at a Wal-Mart in Roswell, New Mexico. The drive that day was a little stressful because of the strong winds. We had a great 4 star meal at Popo’s Mexican Restaurant (222 E. McGaffey, Roswell, New Mexico 575-627-6436), the chili rellenos were delicious. We stayed at The Ranch a number of times prior to this visit. We really enjoy the friendliness of the people at this campground. We sang a couple of songs at one of their...

Mar 9, 2011 - Arrived at the Ranch

We left El Paso yesterday afternoon and spent the night at the Guadalupe National Park. We were kicking around the idea of going over to Alabama to see Jerry and Carol Stewart. After further discussion with them, they are headed to TX April 1 to see their kids, then going up through NM on their way to Yellowstone. We worked with them at both Mammoth and Fishing Bridge. So they plan to stop and see us on the way. It's nice going to the various Escapee Parks, they always make you feel like you're at home. We meet people we haven't seen in a...

Nov 13, 2009 - Lakewood, NM - The Ranch Escapees Park

(Elena Writing) We had waffles and bacon for breakfast. Friday is our "get-away" day from fruit & cereal so I like to prepare something special. After a leisurely breakfast we left for The Ranch, an Escapee park in Lakewood NM. It was a 20-mile trip via north on H-285. We arrived around noon and it was too windy to do outside activities so I did some cooking since we have full hookups (water/electric/sewer). I cooked BBQ pork in my crock-pot and also bison chili over the electric burner. Needless to say, I always take advantage of using...

Mar 27, 2009 - Traveling through White Sands, the Lincoln National Forest to Lakewood, NM

We got back from our Gila Wilderness adventure too late to do any packing. So we had to do it all in the morning. We also had to stop at the Caballo State Park, 20 miles south, to dump our sewer. We did pretty good and were on the road by 10:30 am. We headed south on I-25 toward Las Cruces. Then we headed east on NM 70 toward Alamogordo. This road takes you through the White Sands Missile Range. This drive is really boring except when you get to point of seeing the white sand. This great expanse of gypsum sand covers 275 square miles of...

Jan 20, 2009 - The Ranch - Lakewood, NM

January 1 we had two visitors. Bill and Sue Bozarth stopped by on their way back to TX from CA. Phil and Rose Schafer stopped by on their way to AZ from Coffeyville, KS. Here at the Ranch, there is a social hour each day, various cards or games played at least five nights a week, along with several other activities to get involved in. We've been pretty busy here doing this and that. Jack goes to 'mens coffee' on Tuesdays and MEWS (Men eating without supervision) on Thursdays. We all know they eat healthy like oatmeal etc during this time!...

Dec 25, 2008 - The Ranch (Escapees Co-op)

We have arrived for our new position as weekend and holiday Campground Host at The Ranch in Lakewood, NM. This is between Roswell and Carlsbad, NM. We both have the "cold" now. They are having a Christmas Eve party and invited us even though we're feeling a little under the weather, they said everyone else either has it, had it or are getting it. There was a gift exchange that lasted quite a while, when they called your name, you could choose a gift off the table or get one that someone else had opened already. There was quite an...

Oct 30, 2008 - Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mountains National Parks

We checked into the Escapees Ranch RV Park which is about 1/2 way between Artesia and Carlsbad, NM. We had a very nice drive over the mountains from Alamogordo to Lakewood on highway 82. We wanted to check out Cloudcroft and this highway went right through it. I think we will return to Cloudcroft at another time and just camp out and relax. It looks like a very nice and soothing area. We had previous reports that the Escapees Ranch at Lakewood was the friendliest park in the system. Well, the reports were correct! Before we even got out of...

Apr 1, 2008 - Lakewood, New Mexico

4/1 – 4/3 A short 103 miles brought us from Hobbs, New Mexico to Lakewood, New Mexico where we stayed at one of our club parks called The Ranch. The Ranch is one of our favorite campgrounds because the folks there are very friendly. They even ring a bell when you pull in so people can come and welcome you.
