Mar 24, 2011 - Southwestern New Mexico

We left Cottonwood, on the 21st, and headed toward Phoenix, with a planned stop at a great RV repair place. We just wanted him to check out our solar system, but it’s a good thing we stopped, because the water pump quit. Finding a new pump was the problem, but we got that accomplished and everything is good with the solar – works just as it should. We were on our way back to the Albuquerque area, but took a very roundabout way to get back to Tijeras, to our daugher’s. Since we hadn’t seen my brother, Bob, and his wife, Mary, in a long, long...

Apr 26, 2010 - Catwalk and Enjoying Camp

The Catwalk sounds like a very interesting place but warned that it was not a good place for people who do not like heights or not able to climb ladders and steep trails. We decided we're too old for this one but it was a nice ride back to the entrance. We enjoyed some time at home just getting things done around the coach.

Apr 25, 2010 - Sightseeing Near Glenwood

A little almost ghost town that used to be a mining town sparked our interest. It was only 9 miles off the main road so we decided to check it out. It started out a nice paved road with one lane each way. As we started to climb higher on the winding road it went down to one lane gravel with many blind turns and no guard rails. There were a few spots that widened out so you could get around oncoming traffic without falling off the mountain. Can't imagine anyone living up there but . . . .they did and still do. The little town was quaint and...

Apr 22, 2010 - Tucson to Glenwood

The trip here was an adventure all by itself. We got an early start and I took the first two hour shift, thank goodness. When Dick got on route 78 which would take us out of Arizona and into New Mexico an ominous sign suggested that the road was not recommended for vehicles over 40 foot. We had never seen a sign like that and didn't know what we were in for. The Dragon is 40 feet 10 inches but with our car attached the total length is 59 feet. Dick headed down the road. The hairpin turns were bad enough but my fear of heights kicked in as...

Jan 28, 2008 - The Catwalk and floods

Today we headed out to go and visit the Catwalk in the Whitewater Canyon. The day did not go as expected. The drive was spectacular to Glenwood with mountain views and deep canyons. We stopped regularly along the road to take photos. When we got to Glenwood and followed the signs to the Catwalk we found the road was closed due to flooding. We walked down the closed road to the flooded river and then along the river bank. A local said that this was the highest she had seen the river for 24 years. The river was certainly gushing and taking...

Nov 3, 2007 - Catwalk at Whitewater Canyon East of Glenwood, NM

Information about Catwalk at Whitewater Canyon Saturday, Nov. 3 What a great day in Southern New Mexico - blue sky, good straight roads and an interesting Catwalk hike. After reviewing our mail that Joan receives weekly and sorts in Leesburg, Florida and reviews (looking for bills and IRS memos) with Kathleen, we headed north to Glenwood where we stopped at the Glenwood Trading Post to procure sustenance. The Trading Post, although small, had the full range of goods - prepackaged mini-meals consisting of crackers, cheese and meat discs,...
