Oct 10, 2016 - Our Winter Adventure Begins

Yesterday was our last work day and we are so happy it's over. It's been a very long 6 months and if I had it do over, well.......... - We plan to leave Cochiti Lake today and head south to Caballo Lake, its a 212 mile trip and it won't be so cold there. This morning it was 43 degrees that felt like 38 outside. We plan on staying 2 days there and then on to Tucson for a couple more days before taking off for Southern California for the winter. I've been California Dreamin since we left last April. - Today I have to turn in our equipment to...

Oct 1, 2016 - October is Here and So are the Balloons !!!

October has finally arrived and the balloons are here. Lots of Balloons !!! Today starts the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. For those of you that have never been there, it's a event that you will remember the rest of your life and it's the most photographed event in the world. The event will last until the end of next weekend and will have to wait until after to find out how many burrito's were sold and all the other statistics. - Only 7 more work days left and since October is here it seems that our departure is close as we will...

Sep 2, 2016 - Cochiti Lake NM - Cochiti COE Campground

Stopped here for a few days to celebrate the Labor Day weekend. It was windy here and so it made it rough sitting outside to play Mexican Train, one of our favorite things to do when we hole up for a few days. There isn’t much to do around this lake/campground, so we mostly just “rested”. Bridget did get her walks in every day, so she was happy.

Retired at Last!

Jul 9, 2016 - 3 More Months

We have exactly 3 more months left here and we'll be so glad to be "On the road again". It's been on the hot side here and it will be near 100 every day for the next week and I'm sure it will be that way for the next month. - We have had a terrible week off. Monday wasn't too bad because it was the 4th of July and we just stayed low key like I mentioned in my last entry. - Tuesday we traveled into Rio Rancho on our grocery run and then to the drug store and on to the UPS Store to pick up our mail. - Wednesday I decide to go back to Rio...

Jul 5, 2016 - Thank God I'm an American !!!

As I sat outside last night and watched and listened to the fireworks I thought about all the other countries around the word that hide in fear when they hear the same "noises" that I heard last night. I thank God that I was born and raised here in our beautiful United States of America. - Think about this for a minute or two. - In my opinion what needs to be done is the world needs to unite and eliminate the terrorists. All the countries need to come together with funds and troops and fight until the evil is eliminated. I have thought...

Jun 8, 2016 - 2 Month Mark with some R & R

We are at our 2 month mark with our summer work and that means that it's time for a little rest and relaxation. We packed up the Fifth Wheel and hitched up the F550 and we headed to one of our favorite spots on the planet, Abiquiu Lake. We were Park Attendants here back in 2014 and now it's a place where we can go un unwind and soak up nature at it's best. I made reservations for site # 1 here back in January as it's a very popular site. In fact I looked in reservations at that site is booked all summer long but we will return in August...

May 15, 2016 - One Month Down- Five to Go

After one month gone on our 6 month gig, I have to say that we have had more campers this year than last and I think that maybe people just want to get away from their normal lives. - We start our week again in the morning and this time will work 9 days in a row as the other set of Park Attendants are attending a wedding in California. It will be a long 9 days and after we'll only have 5 days to recuperate but we can do it. - We have been discussing getting a newer Jeep and last week the passenger window stopped working and I started the...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

May 1, 2016 - It's Sunday Already

Our "off" week sure does fly by. It's Sunday already and we have to go to work tomorrow. I can't believe that it went by so fast. - Last night the Albuquerque News was that we were going to get hurricane winds last night with gusts to 75 MPH. I made all the preparations outside so we could pull in our slide outs without any difficulty. When I woke up this morning I could see that a little rain fell last night but I didn't hear any ferocious winds at all. The winds are to continue until tonight so maybe they haven't arrived yet. - It seems...

Apr 28, 2016 - Week One Completed- Year 2

A year ago I wrote a journal entry titled almost the same as todays except this one is Year 2 on our 3 year contract. - Our first work week went well without any glitches and was much easier than last year mainly because we did not have to start working on April 15th like we did last year. Our work week started on the second week of opening season. The park was actually open March 1st but without any Park Attendants until we arrive and start on April 15th. - We left our old wood RV steps in Palm Springs because I was planning on building...

Apr 18, 2016 - Starting Work Today

We're ready to start work this morning and are anxious to do so. The biggest problem is the weather is cold and rainy. It's 37 degrees this morning and I like to start out the days with temps in the 60's but it will warm up soon. I hope. - It took us quite a while to get settled in this year as I made a new set of wooden steps to get into the RV. Our old set was getting a bit on the wiggly side and was 32 inches wide, which is wider than the normal RV steps but our new ones are now 48 inches wide and are 5 steps instead of our old 4 step...

Apr 7, 2016 - We Made It.

We arrived yesterday shortly after noon at our summer home and work place. We got the electric and water hooked up and decided to go to the golf course and get one of their delicious green chili cheese burgers with home made French fries. That's one thing about New Mexican food and that is that it is only available here. Mexican food restaurants are NOT the same. Now that we had our Green Chili Cheese Burger fix we could continue to work and get our rig set up for our 6 month stay. I did get most of the things done but I did notice that I...

Oct 14, 2015 - What's Up ?

Tomorrow is our last day of work here at Cochiti Lake and we will pull out on Friday morning. Our first night we will stay at Coronado Campground about 30 miles south of here so we can say our "good byes" to grandson Noah. - Saturday night will be spent in southern New Mexico, about a 4 hour drive, at Caballo Lake. - Sunday and Monday we will be in Tucson, about another 4 hour drive. - Tuesday we will be in Yuma, Arizona for one week where we will explore the area. We have never stayed in Yuma before so this should be exciting. - Then, God...
