ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Jun 28, 2012 - Getting Closer..

It's getting closer to our departure for northern New Mexico and we're getting excited. - For the past week we've been gradually loading the RV. I think Judy plans to take everything except the kitchen sink at home. We just carry the "stuff" across the street and if you take a little each day it isn't too bad. - We pull out tomorrow but will not leave Cochiti Lake until Sunday morning. We'll go to Mass Saturday evening so we can get an early start and hopefully arrive and get set up while it's still a little on the cool side....RIGHT....I'm...

Jun 22, 2012 - Only One More Week...

Only one more week until we hitch up the Elite Suites to the F550 and hit the road again. - When we leave we will travel a distance of about a mile to the Corp of Engineers campground here at the lake. We always do that to make sure everythings in working order. We will stay there Friday and Saturday night and leave Sunday morning. Normally we would have only stayed one night but you have to make a 2 night reservation on the weekends. - We have a house sitter coming to watch over the house and to relay phone calls if someone may want to...

Apr 2, 2012 - Highlights of Our Winter Vacation

We are back home in New Mexico now and want to share the highlights of our Winter Vacation in what will be our last entry in our journal for awhile. - Last year we had been thinking about and making plans for a winter get away since the summer months and as the months went by we were VERY anxious to get on with our travels. We were so anxious that by the end of November we departed and drove 200 miles to southern New Mexico with hopes of an additional 10 degrees on the thermometer. - As you can see in the first photo we really screwed up...

Dec 2, 2011 - Hee-haw Cowboy Country.......

Yes, I do believe we are in cowboy country. We are now parked at Caballo Lake RV Park and it's exactly what I expected. The park and the grounds are well manicured with large sites and you can pick the one you want when you arrive. The gal that runs the place has a "happy hour" every day, first day she served stuffed jalapenos, all we needed was to bring something to drink. She says it's her social time to get to know the people staying at the park. - Our house sitters arrived and we departed for our 4 month adventure about 10AM and drove...

Nov 21, 2011 - "Jello"

Many RV'ers say that their plans are written in "jello". - Well, that is our case. We had intentions of departing to southern NM the day after Thanksgiving but we are now pulling out on Thanksgiving day. We were planning on eating our turkey at one of the casinos as they all have a marvelous buffet, and Judy mentioned that we could eat our turkey and also spend the night at Casino Hollywood at San Felipe Pueblo. They have many RV sites they offer for $10 a night, that's where we had stayed for 10 days when we were closing on our home. So...

Nov 17, 2011 - Can You Hear me Now...........

Yesterday, Judy and I went hog wild and got new cell phones from Verizon. We each had cell phones from AT&T but they were crappy and they only had one bar in front of one window in the house and we lost calls many times. I think I waited and waited because I hate a 2 year contract but now we splurged and went hog wild. I had every intention on just looking at the "free" phones that were offered online and just checking them out at the store and ordering online. I studied the situation for a month or so in preparation of our upcoming trip....

Nov 11, 2011 - One, Two, Three, Four, Five................

As I take our doggies for their walks I can hear the flocks of geese and Sandhill Cranes fly over town. I mean there are thousands of them. They have been steady for the past couple weeks. They're smart, the're heading south for the winter. - Since I brought up birds I thought I'd talk some about the Festival of Cranes that begins next week, November 15-20th. About 140 miles south of Cochiti Lake near the Village of San Antonio, New Mexico is the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge which is where many of the birds will be...

Nov 8, 2011 - Anyone seen a Clown...

Well, the snow arrived but it stayed in the mountains. I'm glad I didn't have to wake up and wade through snow and slush to walk the dogs. It was visable from our livingroom in the Jemez Mountain Range. - I mentioned my lastest stained glass project which is my "Clown Kachina", see attached photo. He accompanies the dancers at the pueblo and he's a jokester. He is usually depicted with a watermellon as you can see. I made him to sell but until he finds another home he can stand guard at our fireplace with "Early Morning Kachina" who sings...

Nov 7, 2011 - It's Coming......

I do believe that it's going to snow tonight. In fact it's been chilly for several days now but I can see the dark clouds rolling in and they do look like snow clouds. It's just like two years ago when we were waiting to close on our home. We parked the RV in the campground and it was like a blizzard outside and that was about this same time of year. Why, oh why did we not head south already. - Yesterday Judy and I arranged the storage area in the RV and moved a few things from the house over and got them stowed away. - I did make...

Nov 5, 2011 - Getting Ready..........

I know, I know.......it's been 4 months since my last post but I didn't want to bore you with our stationary life here at Cochiti Lake. Our stationary life will soon change as we are starting to prepare for our winter adventure. In a few weeks we will depart for southern New Mexico and then on to good ole California. We will stay at Caballo Lake RV Park in NM for the month of December then move around every couple weeks during January and Febuary and will stay put in Borrgeo Springs for the month of March. We are looking foward to March as...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Oct 24, 2011 - Cochiti Lake, NM (Day 3) - Tent Rocks National Monument

(Ron Writing) The weather has been just perfect the past two days so we’ve been enjoying some outdoor activities here at Cochiti Lake. Yesterday we went for a ride to explore the local area. We drove north to the town of Cochiti Lake and out past the golf coarse. Then drove south on Highway 22, which winds through three nearby Indian Pueblos. We didn’t take any photos there because it is prohibited. Native Americans have been living in those Pueblos for hundreds of years – long before the Spanish first explored this area. The highway...
