May 4, 2013 - Travel day - Clovis, New Mexico
This travel day leaving Big Spring was better than the day we had getting there. No winds or rain - those are precious things to an RVer. We arrived at West Grand RV Park in Clovis and as sometimes we know that the park looks better on the computer than in person and this was the case. But it is better than the RV park we stayed the last time in Clovis, so I guess we can say that is a plus. A person must always look on the bright side, makes life smoother. Upon on arrival "The RV Doctor" came out and replaced our "check valve" for the water...

Oct 11, 2012 - And One More Day Down . . .
I hate to start off another post entry with the same expletive I used yesterday, but sometimes "when the shoe fits" - so "what a day" truly is fitting . . . again. We were both up early. Dry docking and sleeping in a parking lot does that to you and yes, this was our choice because it helps make for a fast get away and easy access to getting fuel in the morning and onto the interstate once again. Today just seemed to hold a comedy of errors or odd things to occur throughout the day. We started off by filling up at the Flying J before...

Jun 20, 2012 - Clovis, NM
We stayed to visit with Ken and Sue for 2 nights. We were afraid the boys would be bored being with us 'old' folks catching up on old friends and old times. They are really anxious to get to Minnesota. Ken's daughter has 4 kids and they kept the boys busy. I struggled to get pictures because they were on the go so much. They fed horses and LLama's and played video games. Braxton and Sam's oldest listened to music and hung out like most teenagers. It was a good time for ALL of us.

Apr 20, 2012 - Sidetracked going to Clovis, NM
4/20/2012 Before we left this morning, we had a surprise visit from an old friend of Andrea's that she used to work with at McClellan AFB in Sacramento. We knew that Carl lived in Las Cruces, but didn't know we were going to get to see him on this trip. After a short visit, we headed out around 10:30. A bit of a late start, but we didn't have to be anywhere at a certain time, so no problem. Well, we couldn't make it all the way today without finding somewhere to stop in between. Right after we passed the Ruidoso Downs, we saw this huge...

Sep 2, 2011 - 10 steps forward...period!
After reading last night's post, you are all probably thinking I grabbed the first flight out of Tulsa home this morning. And I was tempted, I will tell you that. Last night, I had a few cocktails, a couple Tylenol PM and slept like a drunk, medicated baby. I have the same plan for tonight. The girls in the tents were not so lucky as they had to endure warring factions of raccoons duking it out at our site. Turns out the fight was over a few protein bars I left in the saddle bags on my bike as evidenced by the claw marks all over the bags...

Sep 14, 2009 - Clovis, New Mexico
We had a good travel day into Clovis. As most of you RVer's know the GPS sometimes can not get us to the exact location of the park, well this was true coming into Clovis. The GPS said we still had two miles to go to destination as we was passing by an RV park and Fran was saying "gee, glad that isn't ours", then we went by the entryway into this park and guess what it was ours! UGH! Ken turned the coach around in a big parking lot and we headed back to our "home" for the next two nights - Travelers World Campground. Another one we will not...

Aug 19, 2009 - Day Nineteen - Norman Petty Recording Studio
This morning I met tour guide Ken Broad in front of Norman Petty Recording Studios in Clovis. When I arrived, Ken introduced me to a gentleman named David Bigham who was standing out front with him. David isn't exactly a household name, but he was a member of the Roses, the trio of background singers who were on many of Buddy Holly’s hits, including “It’s So Easy.” The Roses also sang background vocals on recordings by Roy Orbison, Waylon Jennings, Buddy Knox, Bobby Vee, etc. Just as Ken was starting to give me the tour, a nice couple from...

I drove on to Clovis, New Mexico, the town where Buddy Holly (among others) recorded a bunch of hits at Norman Petty’s recording studio. A guided tour of the studio is given on a reservation-only basis. The website said to try to make your reservation a month in advance. Since I had no clue when or if I’d be going through Clovis, I didn’t make a reservation (which you can only do via email) until last night. Having nothing to do but wait to find out if I was going to hear from Ken Broad, the studio’s tour guide, I stepped outside my hotel...

We're staying at Travler's World RV Park. It is very rustic--used to be an old KOA campground. It is clean and very quiet but you do get a good whiff of the cow yards and the trains pass closeby. It's so odd to be able to see from horizon to horizon with nothing blocking you view.

All good things must come to and end. Our trip is almost over and we will be going our separate ways in the morning. Jere & Maurine will be heading south towards home. Bill & Jennie and Dale & Carolyn will be heading northeast into Texas and Oklahoma to spend the night at Tinker AFB before getting home on the 16th. Not sure where Jere & Maurine will spend the night tomorrow evening. They will ride until they get tired then bed down for the evening. Today, we visited Fort Sumner, the burial site of Billy the Kid. Some trivia about this, his...

May 17, 2007 - It's not a treat to beat your feet on the New Mexico Mud
After leaving the Albuquerque area, we decided to head south on our way back to Texas. As we were driving through Fort Sumner, NM, we saw the Billy the Kid museum and decided to stop for lunch and to check out the museum. The museum is family owned - passed down from father to son and contains all sorts of things from early time periods, not just Billy the Kid artifacts. Everything from old farming implements to an early RV . There was even a display of vintage Barbie dolls. It was really a fun walk. I managed to get Jeff exactly where I...

Oct 23, 2006 - Shopping & Overnight stop - Clovis, NM
When we were at Messa Verde NP Judi was talking to a women about her hiking boots. Judi was looking for a comfortable pair and this woman wore Ariats, a brand we did not recognize. Judi scratched the name on a piece of paper and off we went. After setting up the trailer for the night we drove into Clovis for something to eat. We passed a billboard advertizing Ariat boots so we made a u-turn to see what store it was. Found the store and bought Judi a pair. Although we did not recognize the brand name, apparently Ariat is a pretty well known...
