May 23, 2013 - Capulin Volcano

May 23 We run out to Capulin Volcano this morning and are there when the doors open. Capulin Volcano raises 1300’ above the grassland at 8100’. The monument was established in 1916 and is an example of an extinct cinder cone volcano. The volcano is relatively young, (58,000 to 62,000 years old).. The large volcanic field surrounding the monument contains at least 100 recognizable volcanoes, and aids visitors in gaining insights into 10 million years of the geological history of northern New Mexico. We had spent the night at the Capulin RV...

Sep 13, 2012 - Donald's birthday

Not much to write today. We left the campground around 10:00. We intended to leave around 9:00 but a man came over to ask Donald about his water heater. Always glad to help another camper if we can. He and his wife had just started traveling so we had to answer his questions. Everybody has been so nice to help us out we are always glad to pass it on. We drove 306 miles and stopped at a passport America campground. It was out in the middle of nowhere but it was one of the nicest one we have been in. Great level pull thru sites. We don't use...

A real good workout for out calves!! Lots of interesting vegetation and wildflowers. Almost all the trees there appeared at first to have red trunks, but they were covered with...

Dec 13, 2005 - Travel to Taos Ski Valley

Dec. 13 - Telluride to Taos, New Mexico Woke up to 2 inches of fresh snow and it was still snowing. We were very tempted to stay another day, but we decided to keep to schedule and drive to Taos. I was initially hoping to drive Hwy 550 (The Million Dollar highway), as it has fantastic views of the mountains and you drive over 3 high mountain passes. But, with the new snow the highway report was recommending chains and I don't think we would have seen much with the cloud cover. So, we headed south on Hwy 145 which follows a river valley...
