Nov 11, 2012 - Caballo Lake State Park, NM

(Ron Writing) This fall has been unusually warm and mild here in New Mexico but yesterday the weather turned to more normal, much cooler, temperatures and it got very windy. The forecast is for about three nights of below freezing temperatures with tonight being the coldest. It is expected to get down in the low to mid 20’s tonight and then a new warming trend should start. Yesterday we left Elephant Butte and drove about 25 miles south to Caballo Lake State Park. This is another nice campground at a dam on the Rio Grande River. This...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Jan 5, 2012 - Still in Tucson

We are still in Tucson and our original plans were to be here for one night, maybe two. Last night was our second night and we are planning to stay one more night. - Our plans were changed for several reasons, we are staying at Lazy Days Campground and we just love this place. While at home I had been in conversation with a RV salesman here at the dealership. Yes, this dealership is huge, it has a 400 site campground with two pools and spas, exercise room and a very nice restauraunt. The salesman offered to pay for our overnight stay and...

Jan 1, 2012 - Happy New Year !!!!

I want to wish all my family and friends a Happy New Year. The past year has been a good one for Judy and I and I'm praying for even a better year in 2012. Wow, 2012, it's been 12 years since the world was going to end in Y2K. Seems as though we are still here but the Mayans say the world will end this year. Maybe we should label it MY12 or something nutty like that. All I have to say is "ya better make peace with your maker", we don't have much time left. - Last New Years Day we were in Tucson for a month and returned to NM to the...

Dec 28, 2011 - Do You Want to See an Elephants Butt ?

Yesterday was a bright sunny day so we wanted to take a drive to the north and a little to the east. We turned to the east in the town of Truth or Consequences and traveled past the Elephant Butte Dam ( hence the name of today's entry )and then on to the Journey of the Dead. - Our destination was to see Spaceport America and to view Ted Turners Ranch called Armendaris but neither was accomplished. We did see Armendaris, it's hard not to since it's 600 square miles in size but we wanted to see his Buffalo herd. The only thing we saw was a...

Dec 25, 2011 - We're Having a Javelina Christmas !

This morning as we were leaving the campground to go to Christmas Mass we were greeted by a Collared Peccary also known as a wild Javelina, a pig like dessert dweller. He or she was considerably closer that what appears in the attached photo's but we were not fast enough getting the camera out of Judy's purse. He was right in front of the Jeep and we had a good view of him. They are a stinky animal but yet adorable. - Christmas Mass was a delight and we feel very comfortable attending Mass there. At the beginning of the Mass the priest...

Dec 24, 2011 - Another Inch......

We only received one more inch of that nasty white stuff last night but that is more than I could bare. Attached are some photo's that I took this morning just so I never forget what I never want to live through again. - There has been a little traffic driving through the park this morning so at least I had the tire tracks to walk in while I took the photo's. While I was outside I figured I may as well get our propane bottle filled again and that total is now at $165 for the past month. I think I turned the propane heater on at night 2...

Dec 23, 2011 - OMG....

Right at bedtime last night I lay my head on the pillow and I hear rain hitting the roof of the RV. Most of the time the dance of the rain on the roof puts me right to sleep but in the back of my head I knew what was happening. - During the night the wind was blowing and something outside was making a noise on the RV. I had no idea what to expect this morning when I got up and opened the window shades. To my surprise I open the shades and I still couldn't see out. With snow and ice attached to the windows the visibility was limited. - As...

Dec 22, 2011 - Good Morning America !!!

Good morning to everyone out there in PC land. My title today is also the name of my favorite morning show "Good Morning America". Today they were reflecting on some of the disasters of 2011. Think about it....is God giving us a message, is he trying to tell us something. - During the past year we had the Tusamini that almost wiped out a nuculear power plant, earthquakes that rattled the world, flooding that still hasn't dried out and droughts that have dried out the forests that contributed to fires that would wipe out half million acres....

Dec 13, 2011 - Am I a Duck or what......

Yesterday afternoon Judy and I visited the Geronimo Springs Museum. It's 14 rooms packed full of interesting items of local history including a Ralph Edwards room. Ralph Edwards was instrumental in the new name of the town, from Hot Springs to Truth or Consequences. The most interesting for Judy and I was the Prehistoric pottery exhibit. Its a world class collection hundreds and thousands of years old. - We talked to the lady at the check in about a tour offered at the museum to tour the Armendaris Ranch, one of Ted Turners land holdings...

Dec 12, 2011 - Mid 50's

The weather here now will be in the mid 50's but it has been COLD. On our trip here it was so nice we had the windows down and then the blizzard arrived. It was so miserable I was only outside long enough to take the dogs out to do their business. It looks like rain is on the forecast for today and tomorrow but the temps will be in the 50's for the next 10 days. What I'm waiting for is the 70 degree temps in California and that will happen, I hope, after the first of the year. - I attached a couple photo's of some Gambels Quail that we are...

Dec 5, 2011 - Blizzard..........

What the he**. If I would have wanted to be in a blizzard I would have stayed at home at Cochiti Lake. Currently it is snowing like crazy, wind is blowing and it's 27 degrees. I know it worse up north but I think I'm going nuts being cooped up in a RV. This is the second day and tomorrow will be about the same so I may be bald from pulling my hair out when this is over. - I could have attached some photo's of the snow but I'm sure you all know what snow looks like. - Judy and I have been playing Mexican Train Dominoes, Yahtzee, Rummy and...
