Feb 26, 2013 - Making it home not easy this week.

Tough day for all of us on Monday while we were still in Roswell. Ed decided he was sick enough to go to an expedited health care facility due to just didn't feel like continuing the with the day as is. The doctor expedited two injections in his butt. One in each cheek. He picked up a bug and knock him on his butt since leaving Vegas. Virginia also was feeling bad, but was diagnosed add okay. Penny is starting to feel bad and we are hoping she'll do well. Cindy already had a bout of not feeling well least Friday. The girls did go to The...

Apr 18, 2012 - Downtime in NM

Full timing isn't all pretty sunsets, and forests. Just like homeowners, there's maintenance to be done, and checkbooks to balance. Staying for a week in a place like Lakewood is the perfect time to do these things. I like to use this time to get our affairs in order, and get the rig back in good shape. I noticed, for example, that our rig insurance lapsed a couple of weeks ago. Seems we forgot to change our mailing address with that company... what can I say, it's been a busy six months, problem fixed. Sitting for months at the coast, or...

Apr 15, 2012 - Caverns part deux

I know, I know... I hate re-runs in my journal as much as I hate re-runs on TV. I was sitting here editing some pics and realized i'd forgotten, I could've added text to show where people were in the photos to give you a sense of the grand scale of the caverns. (OK, my camera and I are bored... there's nothing to photograph around here.) Think of it as a way to "check your answers"... were you able to find all the people in the photos the first time around? I'll try to remember to use this feature in future entries. ("Feature in...

Apr 14, 2012 - On The Road Again

Responding to several e-mails and because Charlie and I are once again on the move, I thought it about time to add to the journal…it has been a while. ‘Course last summer I found a great RV Park in Southern Louisiana and then decided to spend the winter back in Texas north of Austin. No traveling hence no entries in my travel journal… I did get a few things accomplished though. Sorting out thousands of photos in two large trunks was a major accomplishment along with transferring dozens of VHS tapes to DVD. I wrote and published an e-book to...

Apr 14, 2012 - A little slice of Heaven, with a dash of Hell on the side.

We arrived at "The Ranch" Escapee RV park yesterday, and were disappointed, pleasantly surprised, and uncomfortable... all at the same time. First, lemme say that after "Boondocking" (Or, as one writer calls it: "independent parking") on BLM desert land, and in a Wal-Mart parking lot for 3 days, this place is Heaven! We went from using the generator, and rationing water, to having 50amps of plug-in power, a reverse osmosis water line, and a nice flat concrete pad to park on. (Not to mention, use of the satellite!) We are, however, still in...

Mar 17, 2011 - Artesia, New Mexico

Wind turbins and oil country. Today’s adventures took me across parts of the open lands of Texas and New Mexico. Staying with my intentions, I’m still taking secondary roads as much as possible. The first 50 miles or so was on I-20, but then jumped off of that onto 84, then 180 west. This took me through some of the less populated areas of both states. The area between Sweetwater and Snyder, Texas, was windy, and there must have been a couple thousand wind mill turbines. They claim to be the wind energy capital, and I see why. Towns were...

Mar 17, 2011 - Artesia Sculptures

Downtown Art. The pictures were taken just before I left, but thought I'd put them in here. These were scattered along the downtown main street. In this case, I'll let the photos speak for themselves. I tried to place the plaque prior to the art work, but I think you can figure it out. The eagle was not yet placed. It was still sitting on a trailer. Bev was the artist.

May 29, 2010 - Carlsbad Museum and Art Center

We went out for our Saturday morning breakfast. We went to Denny’s again because it was right on our way. We always get a good meal at Denny’s, but I must say the service left a lot to be desired. On their part, they were very busy today. I also didn’t get my eggs the way I ordered them, but thought if I sent them back we would be waiting another 30 minutes, so I just rolled with the flow. After leaving Denny’s in Carlsbad we went looking for the flea markets again. The one we looked for last week, that someone told us was closed on...

May 27, 2010 - Too Much Sun

Today will be our last day for exploring around Artesia. I wanted to take a loop aound the area, so we went North on 285 till we came to 2. Then we took 2 over to 249 and stayed on that till we came back to 82 and brought 82 back into Artesia. It was a very interesting drive. A few hills and valleys that were pretty, but what amazed us were all the oil wells. We drove for almost 30 miles through nothing but oil fields. As far as the eye could see, that’s all there was. Right before we hit the oil fields we came to a small bump in the road...

May 26, 2010 - A Nice Surprise

We had to run over to Wal * Mart to pick up a few things and decided to go ahead and fill up with diesel while we were there. Surprise!! The diesel was down to $2.81 a gallon. That’s down from $2.94 just last week. Hasn’t been that low for a while, not complaining, I love it. After leaving the pumps we headed northeast to do a little more geo-caching in that area. We first hit a little town called Dexter. There were 3 caches in this area and I hate to admit it, but we only found 1. The first was at the back of a Little League ball park. We...

May 25, 2010 - Finger Lickin Good

I did get all my walls washed down this morning and also washed my screens in the windows to boot. I am really glad to have this all done for a few months. Jobs like this always drag me down till I get them done. Donnie felt sorry for me at noon, so instead of me fixing us some lunch he volunteered to buy lunch. Of course, I jumped at the chance. Kentucky Fried Chicken has a special on Tuesdays right now. You get a chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, cole slaw and a biscuit. All for $2.50 each. And, they were really good. We normally...
