Mar 26, 2013 - Albuquerque, NM

We traveled I-40 to Albuquerque and stayed at American RV Park for $37/night. Spendy park, but nice and they provided free breakfast. Talked to park about the Balloon Fiesta in October. Need to book 9 months in advance for the big rig sights. Cost of $65/night with a three night minimum. It's an item on our bucket list, but looks like it will be a spendy stay there.

Mar 19, 2013 - American RV Park

Another day another state. Leisurely 9am start and away we went thru the rolling hills of N Arizona and New Mexico. Gas is down to 3.32 but the temp never went above 60f today quite a shock after the first part of our trip. Stopped at a knife shop and Randi got some new ones as well as a sharpener, do i sleep with one eye open? Country side changes yet again with different rocks and hills looks like sandstone that can be cut with water. Lots of cattle and horses in the fields don't know what they eat or who looks after them cause there is...

Away we go 2013

Feb 24, 2013 - Hot Air Balloon Festival City - Sorry too Windy and cold today

We got off to a very slow start morning for our trip to Albuquerque. Ed is not feeling well because of the cold weather, snow and high plains winds. For Me I really enjoyed the drive because of the painted desert and the gradual climb to about 7500 feet elevation, and down to about 5000 FT. in Albuquerque. More especially I like the trains from BNSF, trains that parallel I-40 our entire trip across today. They have two tracks and we had an opportunity to watch them going easy and west. I'm sure we Saw at least 30 different train sets,...

VIVA - Las Vegas

Dec 30, 2012 - feelin' blue

Today's route took us through the narrowest part of Texas - the panhandle. Even so it took us about three hours to drive across. Ken had hoped to stop at the Big Texan in Amarillo where you can watch gluttons trying to eat a 72 oz. steak dinner in an hour so they can get it free, while you eat a more realistically sized piece of Texan prime beef. But it was 10am when we went by. Better planning next time... The Texas panhandle is beef country. Many herds were grazing along the expressway although the "grass" looked dried out and brown. We...

Dec 27, 2012 - Land Of Enchantment?

Given that Eldorado, KS is much further west than Davenport, we had about 20 more minutes of darkness to deal with as we left the clearly misnamed city. Once we had passed by the huge, odiferous oil refinery and cleared the definitely dying downtown, we were again able to hook up with the Kansas Turnpike, heading south to Wichita and Oklahoma City. Once in OKC we’d pick up I-40 to the Texas panhandle and on into New Mexico. The weather was chilly (about 30) but the day was clear, definitely a good day to shoot for another 550 - 600 miles....

New Year, Old Mexico

Dec 9, 2012 - We are enjoying time with friends in Albuquerque

We have been busy the last couple of weeks! We had to come to Rio Rancho, NM, near Albuquerque, so Jim could go to court over that accident he had up at the campground east of Cuba. Since he was left of center, he was charged with causing the accident. The sheriff didn't show up and it was a preliminary hearing. The lawyer said that the DA will probably throw it out after she reviews all of the evidence. I pray that is the way it works out! Once court was over we started tying up loose ends and preparing to move to the south. We had to...

Dec 7, 2012 - Up, Up and Away

Up, Up and Away in My Beautiful Balloon! Oh how we would have loved to have gone up in a balloon at the Balloon Fiesta Grounds in Albuquerque. Not only was it a blustery, cold and windy day but oh my, the cost of a hot air balloon ride isn't cheap! However we did spend several hours at the Albuquerque Balloon Museum which looks out on the grounds where the balloon festival is held each fall. Seeing photos of 750 to 1000 balloons setting sail, one can only imagine what it is like to see it in real life. The Museum is filled with history and...

Nov 25, 2012 - On Our Way Back

We left Florida early Friday morning. It was really hard to leave the state that has Hollin in it. I kept feeling that pull to go back. Turn around. But he has a life there and he needs to live it. He has friends and Heather. I am still hoping it is not forever or that it will turn out to be a jumping off point for his life that will take him even further from "home" if that is possible. We went north toward Atlanta and then west toward Birmingham, AL. Our GPS took us the scenic route thru that city...according to the map it is called the...

Nov 16, 2012 - Last Day in Albuquerque

Sadly, we are headed home tomorrow. But tonight we hope to on the tram to Sandia Peak. It has just reopened today after being closed for fall maintenance. Chris hope that means its really safe. Yesterday after golf at Istela Lakes we had dinner at the Embers restaurant at the Hard Rock Casino. Although there isn't a Hard Rock Restaurant there are costumes worn by many rocker entertainers. We had gone for Prime Rib unfortunately to find it is only available on Frida and Saturdays. The steaks how ever we're fantastic. The wine list was...

Nov 15, 2012 - Get your kicks on Route 66

Since I have lasted posted we have been to the Unser racing museum, Bobby and Lisa Unser's home (unserville), Santa Fe, the State Capital and the Petroglyphs National Monument. Oh and the Route 66 Casino for a bit of gambling and dinner. Actually won $20. Dinner was good one night and horrid the next time. Not going there again! The weather is still chilly but we found a sunny picnic table for BBQed hamburgers for lunch. Today is golf. Memorable meal in Santa Fe at The Shed. And here at The Artichoke Cafe and Church Street cafe...all...

Nov 10, 2012 - Blowing away in American RV Park

The weather has deteriorated and the wind is rocking us. Stayed in last night. Pete cooked steaks and we played Sequence and Chris and I beat the guys 2 out of 3!! During the evening I discovered my iPhone was missing. The Internet was lousy so we couldn't use find my iPhone app. I was pretty sure it was at Wall Mart and that someone had found it. Kept me awake all night thinking what someone could find on it. This morning Find my iPhone showed it was indeed at Wall Mart! We found it under a shelf where we had been looking at rugs! What a...

Oct 30, 2012 - One year anniversary

Today is exactly one year that we have been on the road. Home for us is where we are parked. We cannot believe that the time has gone by so quickly and the amount of land we have covered. We have driven from Seattle to Arizona, back to Seattle, then to South Dakota, to Wisconsin to Rhode Island, to Maine to West Virginia, to Tennessee on to Arkansas and New Mexico, with a few states in-between. In a few days we will be in Arizona, making a full round trip of the country. We have driven exactly 26,680 miles and seen some amazing sights....
