Mar 15, 2012 - The week from Hell – or – Sometimes this RV Life isn't what it's cracked up to be.
Fred here. Back Story. The truck has been starting slower lately and we were thinking of looking into it, but as you might imagine with our busy life we just never got around to it. :) We were coming from Ajo to Tucson on a 2 lane country road through an Indian reservation, a trip of about 125 miles. About half way in, you-know-who has to recycle the mornings coffee, so I pull over and shut the truck off, since these things can be longer than one might expect. When I go to restart the truck, all it does is crank – NO START!!!. I shut it off...

Mar 11, 2012 - Back in NM
Back in NM March 1, 2012 After leaving Yuma we went back up to the North Ranch escappees park, in Congress, AZ to have the rig weighed. Not good news but not horrible either. We are ok weight wise on all the tires, but a little overweight on CGVWR. We'll have to shed some pounds. Well while we were in Yuma we decided that the teflon glides that are mounted under the ends of our slide rooms needed to be replaced. We thought about going to Phoenix for the warranty work, but since we had to be back here in NM for Carol to have a follow up CT...

Mar 3, 2012 - Alamogordo
We head on into Alamogordo and find our park for the night, Edgington RV Park. It is small, a Passport America park and the owner is friendly and outgoing. He leads us to our site and then fills out the paper work and brings back our change. The other interesting point of this park is the electric is on a meter and if we go over the allotted amount we pay a small amount. Temps are expected to reach 24 tonight. We head out to visit the New Mexico Museum of Space History. A lot of space history has happened here in New Mexico, from the...

Feb 29, 2012 - Gypsum Dust
Feb 29, Happy Leap Day WOW! What a day, yesterday. We had a huge dust storm, no sand, just gypsum dust (…causes spackle snot). We stayed inside the RV all day except for a quick trip to the Tularosa post office and a trip to the campground Laundromat! I spent most of the day sorting pictures, and eliminating hundreds. I need a day like this once in a while. Take a look at the pictures comparing yesterday morning and this morning….I tried to get the same shots. I have never been in anything like this. The RV shook and bobbled all day as it...

Feb 28, 2012 - Selenite, Space, Pistachios and Wind
Feb 28. Welcome to the land of pecans and pistachios I must be getting old. I am finding it hard to remember what we did 2 days ago, so I think I really need to write every night. We arrived here on Saturday afternoon. We experienced a really weird noise for part of the drive here-it sounded kind of like a helicopter. For a while we thought it was a truck in front or behind us, but then the truck left. Then we were tied up in a traffic line due to an accident so I turned the engine off, and the noise was still there, so we still thought it...

Feb 25, 2012 - Biggie-the-cable-guy; sooo cold!!!
So, over the last weeks, Biggie has still been dealing with the “entertainment” issues the RV has presented us. Despite being told repeatedly that everything should work, it didn’t. Everyday, he has spent about 2 hours clicking remotes, and adjusting things, playing with antennas and cables, etc. Thursday night in Silver City, Biggie conquered getting cable, and we were able to watch American Idol (I know, I know…. but it is a favorite of ours). Lord only knows what he did, but he figured it out. Of course, we are now at a place that does...

Feb 15, 2012 - Sonofa....petroglyph
Yesterday promised to clear but really didn't. Had some light rain and winds. It didn't deter us and we headed to see the petroglyphs about 25 miles away. In pre-historic times people lived in this area of what is now New Mexico on the rocky hills. They built shelter and decorated the rocks with stone etched pictures (petroglyphs). It was amazing how well these have stood up. Not much is known about these people other than what was left behind. For Valentines Day we got dressed in red and treated each other to a live performance of the...

Feb 14, 2012 - Lorna...dunes
First, Happy Valentines day to all you lovers. Our main event was a trip to the White Sands National Monument about 15 miles from here. While this has nothing to do with the White Sands Missile Base it IS inside it's boundaries. After touring the remodeled visitors center and watching a great introductory film we headed out to the white sands. Boy, were there ever white sands. These dunes are made of gypsum and look like snow. Folks even use plastic discs to sleigh down them! These scenes were magnificent but I kept looking for the ocean....

Feb 13, 2012 - Spaced out
We left for Church just after 8 this morning and it was snow flurrying and 33 degrees. We are a little north in Alamogordo New Mexico but the forecast is looking pretty good after today. We decided to do indoors stuff and spent a good deal of time at the New Mexico Museum of Space History. 4 floors and outdoor displays of very interesting stuff. White Sands Missile Range and Holloman Air Force base have played a very important role in Space, rockets and such. White Sands was the alternate landing sight for all Challenger missions and a...

Feb 12, 2012 - Out of our gord
Yesterday was a travel day. We drove through Las Cruces and saw signs for Truth or Consequence New Mexico on our way to Alamogordo. We spent most of our time off the interstate which is a good way to travel. Alamogordo boasts many sights to see like the White Sands Missile Range National Monument, Space History museum, AND Pistachio Land home of the world's largest pistachio. Looking forward to exploring after Church. Oh the tire is doing fine. Enjoy the pics.

Nov 18, 2011 - Alamogordo, New Mexico
Arrived at Boot Hill RV Park about 2:00 p.m. Really nice campground and weather is gorgeous. Tomorrow will take a day out to rest and then on Sunday we will go to White Sands. Town is big and scenery is nice. I might not mind living here....not. Saturday A.M. - Partly cloudy this morning and 56 degrees out. Supposed to get to 67 today. There is a pistachio farm across the road and we have some free coupons for some goodies so will probably walk across later. This campground is the nicest one we have stayed at since we got into Texas and...

Oct 29, 2011 - Going On A Poker Run
Going On A Poker Run Oct 29, 2011 Well after over a week of being on oxygen 24/7 Carol was feeling so good that she decided to try only sleeping with it. It seems to be working pretty good, except when we go for a bit of exercise, like walking. But even then she's not doing badly so she's going to sleep with it until she gets to the Pulmonologist, then we'll see. Ok enough of that for now, the reason we came back to Alamogordo now is Geri and John Douglass have invited us to go on a Poker Run with them. John asked me if I would like to...
