Sep 22, 2019 - Day 11

Today is our trip home. We have a flight scheduled for 3:10 PM. We headed for breakfast on the property. They have a very good buffet here. We tried it earlier in the trip and decided to do it again. It is situated right on the beach and we had a lovely breakfast. During breakfast I got a text message that said my 3:10 PM flight was now a 5:09 PM flight. They needed to find a crew. Not sure how that happens, but it did. Breakfast finished, we went back to the room to pack and wait for our shuttle ride to the airport. We have an 11:00...

Hawaii Cruise 2019

Sep 11, 2019 - Day 0

Hi all. Once again, Cheryl and I are off. This time we are both trying something new for us. Neither of us have ever been on a cruise ship, and this trip is a seven day cruise of the Hawaiian Islands. We figure, if we really don't like cruising, we can get off the boat and still be in Hawaii! Not a bad consolation prize. We are spending the night tonight at the Home2 Suites at Newark Airport. Tomorrow morning we have a non-stop flight to Honolulu that leaves at 8:40 AM. We should be at the airport at around 6:30, hence staying at an airport...

Hawaii Cruise 2019

Apr 27, 2019 - Travel Day

Today I went to breakfast about 7:30 and returned to the room to read the Star-Ledger online and worked on correcting old family pictures, some dating back to the 1920's that hace become discolored and spotted. I then departed the hotel around 11:00 to return the rental car. The check-in at Hertz was a little slow. When I looked at my receipt, I had driven 621 miles on this trip. Over 4 days of actual travel (I'm not counting today when it was only a mile and a half and, yesterday when it was only 3 miles round trip), I averaged (subtract...

Mar 17, 2019 - Day 8

Today is our go home day. We have a flight scheduled for 3:00 PM. We got up, had our usual breakfast, packed our bags and left for the airport. It was raining this morning. Perfect timing! The first real steady rain during the entire trip. We got near the airport and I stopped at a nearby gas station to fill up as required by Hertz. We saw the sign in front that said the gas was $2.29/gal. That was real good having seen most stations were sitting at $2.69/gal. I got out to pump the gas (I miss NJ)and noticed that the pump said $2.88. I went...

Spring Training 2019

Mar 8, 2019 - Day 0

Here we go again. Cheryl and I are off on our next trip, this time to Port St. Lucie, FL. We are off to see METS spring training, and Universal Orlando. We plan to see three games, and spend one day at Universal. This will be our first opportunity to see the expanded "Harry Potter Land". We have discovered that the day we are going will be one of the busiest days at Universal due to spring break at many colleges, but I imagine we will be fine. We have a couple of days open and have a few options for what to do. We'll see. Our flight is...

Spring Training 2019

Sep 14, 2018 - Hop, skip and jump

13 September My last morning was really pleasant. Sharon made fresh scones for breakfast then Caroline called over and we caught up on news. Allen had to go to work at the hospital in the afternoon so we had an early lunch, homemade veggie burgers, no bun for me, and Allen made 'proper'ones for himself which he grilled on the bbq on the deck. We dropped him off at the hospital and then Sharon showed me around Kamloops. That took us up to my departure time and an uneventful flight back to Vancouver. 14 September Another day another flight,...

Apr 19, 2018 - Day 1. The journey begins

Obviously I am a big fan of traveling. I believe it is right up there with education and reading in terms of enriching one’s understanding. With that said, I am afraid I am often more about the destination than the journey. Having been awake about 27 of the last 29 hours I may not be being fair to myself. I have always needed my sleep. I’ve been a little apprehensive about this trip. We got at awesome price, $3,000 for two of us to include airfare, 8 nights lodging, 8 breakfasts, a rental car, car insurance, tickets to 6 popular tourist...

Ireland 2018

Jul 31, 2016 - Back in the USA

It's been a long journey but not quite over. Spending the night in Newark airport since storms yesterday cancelled many flights. The day started well. We had breakfast and said goodbye to our table mates. But we plan to see them when we go to Austin. Then we said bye to our servers, a Filipino couple called Victor & Sarah. Our bags were picked up and by 10:30 we were on our way to Budapest airport. They didn't recognize the scooter and spent a lot of time trying to find a way to forbid it. They did require it be checked on as baggage and...

Berlin to Budapest

Mar 20, 2016 - First day, first stop: Camp Nou

When we landed we had to go through passport control. When we got finished going through passport control we went to luggage claim. After waiting for a few minutes we found our luggage and went through customs. When we walked out of customs, the driver was there with our name on a card. We had decided to take my sisters wheelchair because sometimes after a lot of walking, or even too much sitting, her legs just can't go any further. So my mom had ordered a taxi online that could fit wheelchairs. The driver, Arturo, was a very nice man whose...

Barcelona Bound

Mar 19, 2016 - Finally it's time

Finally after weeks of waiting and preparing, it was time to fly to Newark, New Jersey, the first leg of our trip. When we flew in to the airport I saw the Empire State Building, and the Statue of Liberty. It was so cool seeing the Statue of Liberty from an aerial view. When we landed we stopped at a place called Nonna's Meatballs and I ate penne pasta with meatballs. After eating we went into some of the airport shops and looked for candy to suck on while the plane was ascending and descending. Our flight got delayed three times, so I was...

Jul 9, 2014 - Layover

I'm writing this on my insanely long layover here in Newark (10 hours). My trip down from St. John's was uneventful, though, parting was not fun. Customs, navigating Newark, and getting back through security were less fun, but manageable. Also, definitely not used to the heat. Next stop will be KC, super-late at night.

Apr 29, 2014 - Newark to Rome

We landed in EWR on time. After getting off the plane we looked for somewhere to get a bite to eat. We chose a place that looked like a pub, but turned out to be a not so great airport bar. We got some for that was OK and then headed off to the United Club to wait for our flight. The flight was on time and off we to Rome. On the flight, we had a decent small dinner, watched some movies, read and got some small amounts of sleep. We landed in Rome on time and although not real rested, ready for adventure to begin.
