May 10, 2016 - A Few Days in Bricks and Sticks

We didn’t have to worry about finding a reasonably priced place to spend the next few days, as we parked Otto on the street out in front of Janet & Dave’s (my sister and brother-in-law) house in New Jersey. In exchange for free lodging we were taking care of their dog Molly for the weekend while Dave went to Florida to visit his parents and Janet went to Massachusetts to visit their younger daughter Karen and their granddaughter Abigail. They both came home exhausted, and envious of our retired lifestyle. On Sunday we went into New York...

Dec 16, 2014 - And We're Off!

From my Dad’s we came down to New Jersey to spend a few days with my sister and get Suzie acclimated to her surroundings, as she will be staying here for the next 3 weeks while we are in South Africa. She is very comfortable here, having stayed before, but Janet and Dave will have their hands full as they are also caring for their daughter’s dog Mikey for a while. Mikey is a basset/bulldog mix and very sweet, but doesn’t always realize he isn’t a light weight – a lap dog he’s not! Suzie will be with them over Christmas which they will be...

May 13, 2013 - Family Time, The Dogs, and Brooklyn

The next few days on our trip north revolve around catching up with family. From Cape May we drove to a campground near my sister’s home in New Egypt (also NJ). We had a great time catching up with Janet & her husband Dave – talking about her kids, our kids, and our parents, but mostly we just enjoyed watching her beagle, Molly, and Suzie play. Molly is just under 2 and has been pretty wild even for Suzie, but this time they seemed to really hit it off. They are the same size and pretty much the same temperament, so they’d tear around the...

Nov 6, 2011 - Retrieving Otto

The next few entries in the journal will not be long, as we are heading home to Florida and just making overnight stops. I like to document each stop so we know where we stayed and the map shows the right route, so I do each one separately rather than as a whole. But we are ready for some warm weather, letting our knees hang out in our shorts and liberate our toes from shoes & socks and get them into their sandals. We left Jim and headed back to Janet’s, letting Suzie & Molly reacquaint and spend a few more hours on the run. The 4 adults...

Oct 31, 2011 - Suzie & Molly

So we started out Saturday morning to head to New Jersey from Baltimore, even though it had been raining and blowing since about midnight. Our hope was that we would get there (it was only about a 2 ½ hour drive) before the rain changed to snow. Having to worry about this in October was certainly not in the plan. It was a little hairy driving over the Delaware River Bridge as the winds were pretty strong, but even with a mix of rain and snow once we got into New Jersey we really had no problems and were glad to arrive and not have to look...
