Aug 28, 2009 - New York, day 4

Aug. 28 -- Another big walking day, only today it's in the rain. It started raining last night and is forcast to rain on and off all day. But at least it's warm. Again when looking at the Google Map, remember that we are using subway trains to and fro. (A) subway to B (B) United Nations--Janet really wanted to see the UN. Tours are offered all day long, but we decided to do this first thing today. We arrived there a little after 9:30AM and got on the 10:20 tour, which lasted an hour. You all know about the UN so there isn't much to...

Aug 27, 2009 - New York, day 3

Aug. 20 -- Today was a walking day. New York City is a great walking city, like Chicago and San Francisco. When you look at the Google Map of our walkabout, don't forget that we took the subway to a lot of the places. An all day subway ticket is $8.25. Never got in a cab once. We left at 8:15AM and returned at 6:00PM. A long day. (A)We took the water taxi over near Battery Park. We saw some nice monuments and visited the Castle Clinton. Notice how landfill of lower Manhattan encircled Castle Clinton over the years. Before Ellis Island was...

Jul 13, 2009 - Statue of Liberty

Pam wrote: We took the ferry from Liberty Park, New Jersey to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty this morning. Even though I grew up in New Jersey, this was the first time I had been to either of these places. Ellis Island was very interesting. It is hard to visualize all the millions of immigrants that have stood where we stood today. Russell noticed that the stairs were worn down from the hundreds of years of use! The Statue of Liberty was exciting to see! We had passes to go up in the pedestal and that was great! The views from there...

Pam wrote: We had a big family breakfast this morning. Katherine’s husband, Rusty, joined us as well. We pulled out of Rocky Mount at 9:30 AM headed for Jersey City, New Jersey. As we passed by Washington D.C. the kids were excited to see many of the monuments they remembered from last summer! We pulled into the “luxurious” Liberty Harbor RV Park at 7:30 PM. It was supposed to be an 8 hour traveling day, but because of all the congestion around the cities we passed through, it wound up taking us 10 hours. Stop and go traffic on top of that!...

Apr 10, 2009 - A good day to be a dog.

We decided to show a few pictures of our apartment today. THEN I had the best day ever, a great walk. We walked at least 20 blocks to the largest park this area has. Now the dog park leaves a lot to be desired, it’s an old tennis court. I saw grass again! Yahoo! Look at all the apartments and how crowded the houses are. It’s certainly different than Texas. We got a giggle out of the beauty shop window. They’re off to the Intrepid air museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art tomorrow. I get to hang out and snooze, my kind of day.

Mar 31, 2009 - A day in the life of a dog in NYC

As you can see I spent my day just where I wanted to...snoozing in my comfy bed. My human decided to take a quick subway trip to NYC since that was the easiest way to get to the pet store. You see, I get such enjoyment from watching her pick up poo she ran out of bags...hee,hee,hee. The powers that be won't let me on the subway, pits. I hear there are some great aromas down there.

Had lunch then walked round to get he water taxi across to Liberty Island and then to the ferry to Ellis Island and the statue of Liberty. But…there was a powerboat race on and so the...

Jun 22, 2008 - Images of Staten Island

A grand view of New York Bay - Sunday, June 22 Sunday morning we all went out to brunch. Aaron and Lizie don’t get a lot of chance to go out to breakfast with the kids, so it’s a treat for them. We went to a nice restaurant that specialized in Greek food. Grace and Hayden were going to share an order of dollar pancakes, but when the waiter brought the plate there must have been twenty pancakes on it. I figured they would never get through them, but by the time they were finished there wasn’t enough left to feed a canary! Not having seen...
