Jul 10, 2017 - Jersey City, NJ.

We made it through downtown Jersey city. Lots of double parked cars and buses on narrow streets. The campground is a asphalt and gravel parking lot with water and 50amp elec. but no sewer hookup. This place is booked up solid into September. We booked this place a month in advance and could only find the 4 nights we got. They park them very close together, but nobody spends time at their RV's anyway. Lots to go see. We are right on the Hudson River. There are ferries and trains within walking distance. We have a tour booked for Thursday...

Aug 14, 2016 - Bite Me - Big Apple!

OK....so let me just put it out there....I do not love New York. I barely like it. It is an angry city. New Yorkers never make eye contact, they don't talk to you, they don't smile at you, they don't apologize, say “excuse me” or acknowledge brushing past you. New Yorkers purposefully walk out into the street, block intersections, cross against the lights, push baby strollers into traffic and yell at those who dare challenge them. It is horribly crowded with bewildering traffic. You cannot escape the smell of food, vehicle exhaust, noise or...

Sep 5, 2015 - Jersey City, New Jersey

We left the Four Seasons Campground at 1015 this morning and on the way out of town we stopped at one of the many vegetable stands and bought corn for tonight’s diner, green beans, tomatoes and a bunch of bananas. We got back on the road about 1050 and headed for Jersey City. The day was bright and sunny with hardly a cloud in the sky. The traffic was light to medium for the first hour but by the time we reached the Jersey City/New York area traffic began to pick up. It never really got heavy and it moved at the speed limit or more the...

2015 New York Trip

Aug 13, 2015 - Jersey City NJ

Because of rain, Tuesday was a stay-at-home day up until our dinner date with Janey and Richard at Battello just up the road. Dinner was good with a spectacular view of Lower Manhattan directly across the Hudson River and almost 2 hours of gabbing and reminiscing. Richard had to fly to Atlanta in the morning so after a short tour of our house, we pulled the plug fairly early. Wednesday, in contrast, turned out to be a long day in the Big Hairy Apple. We hopped on the PATH train at Grove Street a little before 10:30 for the 20 or so minute...

Aug 10, 2015 - Jersey City NJ

Surprisingly, the trip to Jersey City started out rough but ended up being pretty painless...once we got through with the aggravation and traffic. My plan was to hit the road early – let's say before 9:00 – which we did, and actually pulled out of the campground about 10 minutes early and after a very aggravating fuel stop, we were onward – slowly – through Maryland, into Delaware then New Jersey. The traffic up to crossing the Delaware River at Wilmington was miserable. We had numerous episodes of stop and crawl...thank God we are...

May 27, 2015 - College Park, MD to Jersey City, NJ

5-27-15 College Park, MD to Jersey City, NJ We got up early today but were in no big hurry to get going. Had breakfast, got the rig ready and hit the road at 9:45AM (early!) Well, almost. I hooked up the Toyota and didn’t allow myself enough room to make the first turn out of the park. Had to get out and disconnect the rig (can’t back it up with the tow vehicle on.) Boy was I pleased. We got started again at 10:07AM (late.) Today we traveled north on I-95 through Baltimore, into Delaware via the Delaware Memorial Bridge which spans the...

Feb 23, 2014 - Olympic Gold Medal Hockey - Canad vs. Sweden

I got up early this morning to watch the men's Olympic gold medal hockey game between Sweden and Canada. This was being played at 7 AM ET, so I had to get up a little earlier than usual. Rather than disturb Linda I went down to the lobby and found a group of Swedes watching the game at the bar - with their Swedish flag. I got a text from my brother that he was also in a bar in Calgary watching the game - at 5 AM local time. Evidently the bars in Alberta (and across Canada) had opened early and were full to capacity with hockey fans ready to...

Feb 22, 2014 - New York city

We arrived into the New York City area late on Wednesday evening after an eventful trip. On Thursday we slept in and headed into the city after the morning rush. There was an accessible underground train station right across the street from our hotel in Jersey City that took us under the Hudson River and into Manhattan. We got off at the World Trade Centre station. This was ground zero for the 911 attack. In the place of the twin towers, a new single tower is has been built. This is still under construction, but the exterior of the building...

Feb 19, 2014 - Arrived in NYC area

Well, we arrived late into the NYC area and finally made it to our hotel (the Jersey City Hyatt Regency on the Hudson) about midnight. Well, that took a long time. It took us 16.5 hours to get here. Wow! It was an interesting day. The flight from Toronto followed on how the rest of our day was going. Once we cleared customs and security in Toronto - which went pretty well - we found our gate with half hour or so to spare. We found an expensive snack lunch / supper (or whatever it was since it was now almost 9 PM) - Air Canada should have...

Oct 20, 2013 - Jersey City, NJ

October 20 Beautiful morning with not a cloud in the sky and 60’s. We took a long walk from camp along the Liberty Canal and into Jersey State Park where we had wonderful views of Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty , WTC and the Manhattan skyline. In fact, there was a ferry to Ellis Island which seemed very close and much easier access to the ferry than from Manhattan. In retrospect, although camp is primarily cement with clean bathrooms, it also is well located with great views of Manhattan and good access to the city. Had brunch of more...

Oct 19, 2013 - Jersey City

October 19 Path into town again and got off at 14th and 6th Avenue to walk to Union Square for the farmer’s market. In the past 5 years NYC seems to be so much more civilized, friendly, family oriented….not sure what the description is. There are blocked off parts of streets with chairs and tables, food trucks and even the landscaping is interesting with various cabbages, flowers etc. Kids seemed to be everywhere and having a good time! Fall at a farmer’s market is fun with all of the wonderful colors. We bought some Rocambole garlic which...

Oct 18, 2013 - Jersey City, NJ

October 18 It is an absolutely gorgeous day to be in Manhattan. Crystal clear and 66 degrees. Liberty Camp is on the Liberty Marina with some quite nice boats! Jersey City has developed some very nice waterfront condos and new skyscrapers. Most likely major corporations have put their administrative and service staffs across the river. We saw parking for $70 a month which would be unheard of in Manhattan or many other metropolitan areas. The Path is a 15 to 30 minute ride depending whether you to the WTC or near Penn Station on 33rd. We had...
