Aug 22, 2014 - Shady Pines

Shady Pines RV Resort We' started on the New Jersey/Pennsylvania leg of our second cross country trip of 2014 today. We'll be in the Atlantic City area for a long weekend to celebrate our 45th anniversary and visit family in Riverside. We left a couple of weeks later than I had intended because of some last minute medical issues that cropped up. I had scheduled a stress EKG for the day before we were supposed to leave and to my surprise the EKG was abnormal. The doc scheduled me for a cardiac catherization the following week. Fortunately...

2014 Cross Country 2

Jun 29, 2014 - Absecon, NJ

Normally, we would take two days to travel from Pittsburgh to home. We decide to use the Interstates and make it in one day. It is Sunday. We do not want to travel around Philadelphia on Monday morning. The 4th of July is approaching. We want to be home before the holiday traffic. It is a long day for us. We make a couple of stops to break up the day. We arrive home before 4:00. We are tired but we are home. We can unpack tomorrow. We hope all who followed along enjoyed our trip. We did!

Apr 18, 2014 - Absecon, NJ

Our last trip was to the southwest in the fall of 2013. We are back to taking spring trips. We will be leaving late April and will head to South Dakota, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado. As usual, I have a route planned but no itinerary. Much of our trip is about scenic drives. As always, we will avoid the interstates. We look forward to visiting many National Parks, Historic Sites and Monuments. We like to find “Americana” along the way. We hope to see a lot of wildlife. I will take pictures and John will fish as much as possible. We look...

Oct 27, 2011 - Our Plan for November

We plan to travel the month of November so this will be a short trip for us. We are heading south along the Atlantic Coast. We will visit with friends. John will fish as much as possible. We will do some sightseeing. I will get some stamps in my National Parks Passport book. Itineraries never work out for us but here is a plan: Our first night we will spend near Washington DC. We know a great place for dinner and then breakfast. We will head to Williamsburg, VA. If the weather is nice, we will take a tour. Next, we will go to New Bern, NC...

May 12, 2011 - Follow Up

So, how did we do on this trip? We planned to be home by May 1. We did not make it until May 10. Knowing us, this is not surprising. I saw the cherry blossoms in Washington DC. It would have been better if it were not so cold! We crossed Virginia and found a great state park. In North Carolina, we were near Smoky Mountain National Park. We had a wonderful visit with my sister’s granddaughters. We did not attempt to drive through the national park but used the interstate to cross the mountains. We visited Nashville before starting our trip...

May 10, 2011 - To Absecon, NJ

We plan to start our day at the Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site. I check their website to see what time they open. They are not open on Mondays and Tuesdays. We change our plans. We now are going to pass Philadelphia at rush hour. This is not good. We take the PA Turnpike all the way to the end. We see traffic at a stand still in other directions. We never have to slow down. We cross NJ on Route 206 and then the back roads. This is more like our style of travel. We are home by 10:30. It has been a great “short trip.” Thanks again to...

Mar 28, 2011 - Getting Ready

We are going on the road again. This will be a “short” trip for us. We plan to leave on March 31. We plan to return to NJ on May 1. As always, plans can be changed. Our tentative itinerary is as follows. We will head first to Washington DC. It is cherry blossom time. It may be a bit crowded for us but it is only one day. We will then head south toward Richmond and across Virginia and NC to the Smoky Mountain National Park. From the park, we will head west toward Nashville. For us, much of our traveling is about scenic drives. We will drive...

Sep 1, 2010 - To Absecon, NJ

We are on the road early and headed for home. We debate what route to take. We decide on the shortest even though it involves staying on the interstates. We near Baltimore and are in rush hour traffic. We head for the nearest exit and pull off for breakfast. The traffic is not so bad when we start on our way again. Past Baltimore we head north on I95. We see traffic backed up for miles in the opposite direction due to an accident. This is too stressful for me. The only reason to get on an interstate is to get from point A to point B...
