Jun 15, 2017 - Winnemucca, Nevada via Lake Tahoe

Today we left San Francisco and headed east. When we looked at the map we saw that it was not too much out of the way to go by Lake Tahoe, so we rerouted our plans a bit. The drive from the interstate to Lake Tahoe was beautiful. We went over some pretty high mountains and drove past a couple of ski resorts that were still in operation! Saw skiers on the slopes. We passed Squaw Valley where they held a winter Olympics and then came upon Lake Tahoe. One of the deepest lakes in the world and one of the bluest lakes I have ever seen. We had...

Jun 4, 2017 - Springville, UT to Winnemucca, NV

June 4, 2017 Because we anticipated hot weather again today we left the hotel before 8:00 for the rather boring drive to Winnemucca. The good news is that the weather was sunny and we had very little wind until we passed Elko, where we sat near a park for lunch. I had left over salmon Caesar and Bob had a Subway sandwich. We actually played “guess the personality” game to pass the time. We are again at the BWP in Winnemucca and plan to go to Chihuahua Grill and Cantina tonight. We no longer like the Basque restaurant or the BBQ spot. Both...

May 23, 2017 - Winnemucca, Nevada

Arrived yesterday about 3pm. We left Novato at 7:30 am. Was a good trip. Was so nice going over Donner Pass and seeing the snow. As we entered Nevada was great to see the rivers full and raging waters. With the snow melt coming the rivers are at their peak they are watching for future flooding as the snow melts. Today we were just hanging out and will take a visit to downtown Winnemucca. Weather is warm and clear skies. We visited the visitor center, took the walking tour of the town, saw the bank that Butch Cassity robbed, visited the...

Jan 22, 2017 - Off To Denver

Eighth Leg – San Francisco to Denver Another early morning start, checked out before 6am, no reduction for mouse intrusion but then no charge for extra guest. Stopped off at McDs for breakfast on the way, they’re the only places to get breakfast at 6am. We had to get the Amtrak coach from San Francisco back across the bridge to the train station at Emeryville. Only problem was that when we got to the coach station they informed us that the train would not be leaving until 2pm, it had been delayed by weather conditions & had not arrived till...

Sep 27, 2016 - Winnemucca,Nevada

The drive here from Boise was rather boring. The desert becomes apparent quickly after leaving Nampa,ID. Sage brush and very little else for 242 miles. We imagined flat nothing landscape but there are mountains around. Not picturesque mind you. Arrived in Winnemucca late afternoon. Went to the campground to learn my Visa was blocked. No big deal, I had cash. We had been having trouble with our cards for a few days so I decided to call visa. Surprise.......no cell service. Thanks to our Westy, a fellow camper wandered over to our site to...

Aug 9, 2016 - Day 1 An Olympian Journey

Drat! When I set my trip date I didn't realize it fell during the Summer Olympics, so I'll be missing the many hours of viewing beautiful youngsters from around the world executing amazing feats. The friendly folks at the desk here at the Winnemucca RV park were excitedly discussing Women's Gymnastics, which I missed. The gymnastics fans seemed to be staging their own event as they swatted at the world class swarm of flies that have descended on this venue. Apparently it's a banner year for bugs. If I can't watch the Games I guess I'll just...

Going for the Gold

Jul 10, 2016 - wendover, nevada

July 10 Should not be so hot today, well should only hit 70, compared to the high 70’s and low 80’s. Our landscape has changed. It was high desert, semi arid, after leaving Wells it is now lost of shrub and small trees. Definitely more water here. You can also definitely see the curvature of the early here. Oops went back to low shrubs again, between two mountain ranges. Getting ready to cross huge valley with mountains far on the other side. Top the lats hill and the Great Salt Lake comes into view. 1st park at the Casino too small, so...

July 9 Finally leaving Sacramento, good visit with the kids, but time to get moving. Still not doing well. Whenever I eat anything I immediately hit the bathroom with diarrhea. We are headed towards Winnemucca, Nevada. Arrived in Winnimucca around 4 pm, fueled up and found our campground. Not bad, Passport America all pull thrus with full hookups. Lots of wind today. Short day tomorrow, only 3 hours to Wells.

May 30, 2016 - Winnemucca KOA

Today was just a quiet relaxing day. We walked around the park, went to the pool a couple of times, and did some reading, and a little tv. It was pretty hot. The temperature said 80 with about 13% humidity and a real feel of 89. A couple of motorcycles pulled in with little trailers that converted into tents. It was interesting watching them unfold everything.

May 29, 2016 - Fernley, Nevada to Winnemucca, Nevada

Today was a short driving day for us. We left Fernley late this morning and headed for Winnemucca, Nevada. We want to hear the Mormon Tabernacle Choir while we’re in Salt Lake City, so we decided to slow things down so that we get there Wednesday. They practice on Thursdays in the late afternoon. We picked up a few things at Walmart and stopped to make lunch along the way and arrived here around 1:30 pm. We’re at the KOA in Winnemucca. It’s a pretty large campground compared to the other KOA’s we’ve been to. It was pretty hot here, with the...

May 3, 2016 - Nevada

Our plan from Hart Mountain was to head south. Mike had gotten wet Oregon winter mold and moss in his brain and wanted to dry out. But first…we found out one of our sons from another mother (Fritz) was going to be in Salt Lake City with his girlfriend. She was going there for a Weight Lifting Competition. Our son Jesse from Seattle was going to be there too. Since it is only a couple of days drive from Hart Mountain, we decided to go. We headed there by way of Nevada. We stopped for the night at Winnemucca NV. There is a BLM (Bureau of Land...

Sep 30, 2015 - Kate's Musings

Hi Everyone, it's a good thing we left Oregon today. The state map is tattered and torn after using it for a month. I'm going to focus on Oregon since it's the state we recently were in. So my memory is the best for Oregon. The state has many diverse lands. We started on the coast and traveled through forests, grasslands and into forests again and then into high desert. My favorite area was the ocean. The Pacific Ocean is very different from the Atlantic Ocean. It is ragged with beautiful rocks jutting out along the coastline. I loved the...
