Apr 20, 2013 - Truckee, CA to West Wendover, NV
Had a nice breakfast of bagels, lox and cream cheese with mixed fruit on the side at Leslie’s. That is not our usual breakfast fare. Left Truckee a little after 9:00 on a crisp, clear morning. Today we are driving across all of Nevada on Hwy 80 to West Wendover which borders Utah. We’ve done this trip several times and know that a book on tape is the best way to spend driving 430 miles of really barren terrain. We saw lots of tumbleweed, 3 prisons and lots of mineral processing plants. Our friend the wind is back which always gives me a...

Mar 20, 2012 - Twin Falls, Idaho
Because of the time zone change we arrived into our campsite just after noon. The time change happened just as pulled out of Wendover. Waking up to -3 was no fun and trying to break camp with the wind blowing didn't help. Played in the Red Garter casino until after midnight last night with both of us doing well. The drive scenery wise was a 10 with all mountains fully covered in a fresh layer of new snow as well as the sides of the roads we travelled. Glad we sat out the last few days waiting for the snow clouds to move away. When...

Mar 18, 2012 - Waiting out the snow
Sitting and waiting for the snow today /tonight. We went through this area a few years ago and had to wait until the mounatin pass out of here was clear of snow. Power came back on sometime overnight and the heater warmed us this morning. Cooking breakfast was another story as several power outages kept us wondering if we would ever eat. The casinos must have been going nuts this morning with all the power ups and downs, glad we were not in them. There was a knock on our door last night and it was from some of the young spring breakers who...

Mar 17, 2012 - We survived the wind storm
We survived the wind storm that blew through here today. However the wind took out a transformer somewhere and the power went out in all the Wendover Casinos. At 7:30pm the casino went dark momentarily and then repeated a few seconds later leaving us slot players in the dark for hours. After sitting for an hour a manager and maintenance person came by and powered up and rebooted our section and returned my credit balance. It was very interesting watching the Slot machines reboot, it was the same as watching our home PC go through the same...

Jul 23, 2011 - NEVADA
Saturday, July 23, 58° this morning at 8:00 AM. We left the campground in Oregon and drove into Nevada, we saw wild burros, I did not even know they had wild burros in the U.S., bighorn sheep and lots of beef cattle, at one point on interstate 80, headed east it was 110°. We drove 425 miles today and stopped at a casino near West Wendover,NV. Took a walk through the casino just for the exercise and lost a couple dollars to one armed bandits. Spent the night in the casino parking lot, many other campers there as well. Not much excitement...

Jul 1, 2011 - The Road Across the Wilderness
Friday morning we took off for the last leg of our Nevada journey. Some of the scenery was just desert, but some was really beautiful, and the snow pack has added to the greening of the hills. As we came down from our last pass, we were dumfounded by the scene spread out before us. The Bonneville Salt Flats spread out on the horizon and the juxtaposition of the desert scenery with the white alkali was stunning. Later we found that you can actually see the curvature of the earth from that point. We were so flabbergasted by the view, we...

Jun 28, 2011 - Our day in West Wendover, Nevada
We did not do too much while we was here since Ken is still in a recovery mode but we did get out to see a little and also have lunch at Montego Bay Hotel and Casino. This casino and also the Nugget is very unusual ---- you park your car in Utah (because that is where their parking lots are located and then we walk across their parking lot to their casino's located in Nevada. So not much to report but wanted to let our friends and family know that Ken is still improving. God Bless you all Ken and Fran

Apr 24, 2010 - Test-drive day
Well, we decided that it would be in our best interest to tow the coach around before we go through our orientation and bring it "home" next Saturday. So we made arrangements with Bish's to give it a go. One of the sales-men, Bear Bangs (yes, that IS his real name) was more than happy to unlock the storage area and help us hook-up for the first time. We had checked out a route that would be out of the busy traffic, give us some 90 degree turns and provide space to try backing up. Things went very well. At the end of our test-drive, we...

Apr 13, 2010 - Tick-Tock - 13 working days left
Things have been busy since the 27th of March. We have been getting more things ready and have had plenty of work and personal engagements to attend. We have also been exploring options for a place to live after the house sells. Parking the fifth-wheel at the Fire Station until the end of summer has been a "best-case" scenario for us as Rick could go on as many fire calls as he can fit into a day. After surveying the fire-station property, we noticed an irrigation pivot immediately to the west of where we would have to park. That would not...

Mar 27, 2010 - more things coming together
Today we took the truck to Bish's RV so they could install the SuperFifth hitch. We strongly considered the air hitch, but ended up with the SuperFifth because of the suspension and MoreRyde hitch pin on the coach. We don't need it back immediately, so they will most likely have the truck for one to two weeks. Things seem to be coming together with the house sale also. The appraisal was done last week and this past Thursday we met with the buyers to see what furnishings they might like to "buy" and it gave them the opportunity to ask us...
