May 4, 2013 - Valley of Fire St. Pk, Nevada
We spent two nights at Lake Mead before trundling off to Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada. Apparently it was named when some politician or other drove up the valley road with the sun lighting up the red rocks and thought it looked as though the whole valley was afire. On the way here, we stopped to check out a place called “Blue Point Springs” right beside the road. We could see as soon as we got out of the car that water was running in a tiny creek and decided to follow it back to see if we could locate the spring itself. We found where...

May 15, 2012 - Valley of Fire State Park
There is more to do in the Las Vegas area than gamble. We visited Valley of Fire State Park about 55 miles northeast of Las Vegas. Nevada's first state park, Valley of Fire, gets its name from the colorful red, orange and yellow sandstone formations that are seen here. All I can say is, WOW, BEAUTIFUL! It is hard to believe so much desert could be so scenic. Because of its stunning scenery, movies such as "Planet of the Apes", "10,000 B.C.", and "Transformers" were filmed here.

Jan 26, 2012 - Las Vegas - Valley of Fire
Drove north of Las Vegas about 45 miles to the Valley of Fire, the first state park in Nevada. We though the rock formations in Red Rock Canyon were great, the Valley of Fire blew us away. The different colors, hues and rock formation from huge to very delicate were spectacular. We saw rock formation that looked like an elephant and one that was a natural bridge, walked along a 3/4 mile trail that was called Petroglyph Canyon Trail, it was amazing to see all the Petroglyphs etched in the black patina deposited on the rock thousands of years...

Mar 29, 2010 - Nevada Valley of Fire State Park - One of the Most Picturesque Parks We've Visited!
Today we decided to head over to the Valley of Fire State Park. I had never heard of it but there was a little square on the campground's brochure that talked about a scenic drive that took about two hours to Valley of Fire State Park. We decided to check it out. Well, two hours is a crazy estimate. We were gone all day but, on the other hand, we just loved it. Valley of Fire is one of the most colorful parks we've ever visited. The park gets its name from red sandstone formations, but there are also limestone, shales and conglomerates and...

May 1, 2009 - Valley of Fire
After spending a week in Las Vegas visiting Jo's mom and brothers, and attending a mini high school reunion with several of our Bedford High classmates, we headed north to one of our favorite little state parks, the Valley of Fire. In this little park are numerous clusters of red sandstone rocks that have been exposed by years of erosion and now sit there in the middle of the desert for visitors to admire. In addition to wearing away the grey rock masses that used to hide this Aztec sandstone layer, the forces of erosion (wind and water)...

Sunday 26th October A Dam, a Bridge and another Critter in the Road The drive up Hwy93 to the Hoover Dam was uneventful enough, but if I was losing track of days, when I arrived at the dam I knew one thing - it was a weekend. The place was packed. It wasn't quite a traffic jam heading up to the dam, but not far from it. I stopped at a couple of points south of the dam for photos and then paid $7 to park in the main car park. Disappointingly, they were also charging another $10 for entrance into the visitor centre - I settled for an amble...

Jun 14, 2008 - 6/14 Valley of Fire
6/14 Was finally able to get in a good nice long hot shower. After 3 days of a mixture of water and dust in my hair it got to the point where I wouldn’t even get my fingers though it. I kept it up in a pony tail the whole time. Bill said I finally smell better than the mules. I even treated myself and put on my eye make-up this morning. Only forth time I have done that all trip so far. The Valley of Fire is real neat, so many rocks with caves in them. Again thought of our grandkids and how much fun they would have. Took a drive around and...

May 11, 2008 - Valley of Fire State Park
All right one more side trip. We got up this morning and decided to go visit the Valley of Fire State Park, thinking it would only take a few hours. Eight hours later we made it back to the trailer. Wow what a beautiful ride that was. We stopped at many lookouts and hiking paths. I think I took 200 pictures and we are exhausted. Tomorrow is a day of rest.

My time in Las Vegas was drawing to a close, and I wanted to see Valley of Fire State Park before leaving. Kevin and I drove north along the scenic Northshore Drive, which is located along the west side of Lake Mead. The road passes through interesting countryside and every now and then provides a glimpse of Lake Mead. We arrived at the Valley of Fire, Nevada’s first state park. It’s a beautiful, dramatic park and is filled with spectacular red rock formations. One of the first we saw was elephant rock, which is so clearly evident. The...

Nov 12, 2007 - Valley of Fire State Park, Las Vegas, NV
This park came highly recommended by a fellow hiker in Death Valley, so we changed our route to Arizona to include this park. As you enter the valley, you are awed by red rocks strutting from the valley floor. These rocks are sand dunes that have turned to rock, and full of petroglyphs. Our one day turned into three!

Oct 16, 2007 - Valley of Fire State Park - Nevada
On our way from Zion down towards Las Vegas, we stopped off in Valley of Fire State Park for a few nights. We had been to the park twice before; the first time passing through the park on our way up to Zion at the start of our RV trip in the spring of 2005, and the second time as a day trip up from Las Vegas in February 2007 with some high school classmates with whom we had gotten together in Las Vegas for a mini-reunion. On both occasions we were thrilled by the beauty of this small group of red rock hills clustered together in the midst...
