Oct 20, 2017 - fall color

We were so impressed by the beautiful trees we saw as we wandered around the old part of Carson City, we decided to be more intentional about seeing more. Reno has an arboretum that was started by a philanthropist and is supported by many community members, judging by all the commemorative plaques and benches in every nook and cranny of the park. When we looked closer, we could see that many of the trees were supported by drip irrigation, which explains why we only see the brightly colored trees in residential areas or spots where someone...

Oct 12, 2017 - back to civilization

Yesterday we were camped deep in the woods, the only rig in the park. The man who checked us in could hardly be bothered to leave his TV show to do this simple task. As we heard about all the forest fires, my overactive imagination began to wonder if anyone would notice if our thick forest went up in flames with us in the middle. The pine trees were rapidly shedding their six-inch needles. Great kindling. Ken had to sweep off the slides before we brought them in. Now we have driven southeast to the Reno/Lake Tahoe area, parking in a...

Sep 11, 2016 - Sparks Marina RV

We spent August 21 to Sept 11, 2016 in the Fallon RV Park. We were glad to finally move on, even if it was only for about 60 miles. We finished with all we needed to do in Fallon and had some stuff to do in Reno before taking off. One major thing still needing to be done was getting the tow bar on the Jeep This turned out out to be a 2 day thing. We also needed to do some banking. We ended up spending a lot of time at Kent and Gina's house: they were only 15 minutes away! Gina was kind enough to pet sit the 2 days the tow bar took to put...

Jun 27, 2015 - Sparks, Nevada

Yesterday we slept in late and after we finally got up, dressed, showered, and feed we got in the truck and drove out of the campground to the Pioneer Trail to evaluate using this road when left as opposed to simply using Highway 50 thru town and the avoiding the downtown and casino traffic. US 50 through town is being repaired and the traffic at the ”Y’ (most of you will not know what the “Y” is or where it is) where US 89 and US 50 split/merge. The Pioneer Trail is a good road with only a few traffic lights and relatively light traffic....

Apr 16, 2015 - Sparks-Reno

Hello from Sparks, Nevada. We are staying in an RV park on the edge of town. It is a quiet, tidy park and each site is separated by a strip of artificial grass. As guests leave, the staff sweeps clean the strips of grass. We had very strong winds the other day with gusts of 45 mph and lots of leaves collected on the artificial grass. We chuckled as we watched the staff actually use a lawnmower to “mow” the grass and make it leaf-free. Well, at least they realize that Sparks is in the desert and didn’t put in real grass! The RV park is...

Summer 2014

Jun 27, 2014 - Preparing for the trips

The packing has begun for the big summer event! We will be heading to Elko, then to SLC, and Vegas. After that, it is on to New York, and then we will be driving from NY to Florida, making tons of stops along the way!! I don't know whether to pack in smaller but more bags, or bigger bags. We will have a few "overnight" stays as opposed to a longer time at one place. Oh well, I guess I'll get it figured out!!

Summer 2014

May 30, 2014 - Sparks, NV

Arrived in Sparks Marina RV Park, 1200 E. Lincoln Way, Sparks, NV 89434, 775-851-8888 at 2:30 pm with several pit stops (rest area and scenic pts) along the way…Boreal, Donner, and Safeway. The RV park was all paved with concrete pad, picnic table with a metal plate to fire up your grill, fake grass and shady, very clean toilet and shower facilities. Meet our RV neighbor, Joanie, and chatted with her for about an hour. Took a nap from 2-4 pm. Alan was very crabby so I sent him off to clean up and shower. Alan had wi-fi problems…hopefully...

Apr 12, 2014 - Almost too easy

Knock on wood, but this has been the most uneventful 780 miles I have ever towed. Highway conditions have been excellent, there has been very little traffic, the weather has been perfect and all equipment has operated without problems. Under these conditions, Nevada travel is a real treat. We left Hawthorne well after 9 AM and arrived in Sparks just past noon. Today's 131 miles was the least we have traveled since leaving San Tan Valley. It was very relaxing. Sparks Marina RV Park is one of our favorite travel-thru locations. The park is...

Oct 7, 2013 - Sparks Nevada Rally

On Monday afternoon we moved 43 miles to Sparks Nevada for another Newmar Rally that starts on Thursday. On Saturday we all rode a 1918 vintage steam engine driven train from Carson City to Virginia City and spent 3 hours walking the town. Virginia City was a focal point for silver and gold mining. On Sunday we went to downtown Reno to the Italian Festival. We were surprised by the size of this festival. There was a lot of stage entertainment and LOTS of Italian food vendors and a sauce contest. Of course we sampled the foods for our Sunday...

Sep 25, 2013 - Sparks, Nevada

Elko, Nevada was chilly this morning and during the night it was very windy. We left Elko around 0900 and headed west. Yesterday there was a sign warning drivers on I80 that there were numerous construction projects for the next 50 miles and they were not kidding. We did not count the number of projects but there must have been at least a dozen. It seemed that as one project ended and you accelerated up to speed another project presented itself and you were decelerating again. After the first 50 miles the projects did stop although we did...
