Talked with mom today and set specifics for trip down the East Coast. We are going to be starting out on the 22nd of July by traveling to Hershey PA for the tour of the factory, then to Gettysburg, and then on to Virginia. Then, we will do a day in Washington DC, and head to see Jamestown on our way to Charlotte NC. From there, we will head to Atlanta and stay about 4 nights to visit with family and sight see before heading down the East Coast of Florida. Summer 2014

Jun 27, 2014 - Preparing for the trips

The packing has begun for the big summer event! We will be heading to Elko, then to SLC, and Vegas. After that, it is on to New York, and then we will be driving from NY to Florida, making tons of stops along the way!! I don't know whether to pack in smaller but more bags, or bigger bags. We will have a few "overnight" stays as opposed to a longer time at one place. Oh well, I guess I'll get it figured out!!

Summer 2014

May 30, 2014 - Sparks, NV

Arrived in Sparks Marina RV Park, 1200 E. Lincoln Way, Sparks, NV 89434, 775-851-8888 at 2:30 pm with several pit stops (rest area and scenic pts) along the way…Boreal, Donner, and Safeway. The RV park was all paved with concrete pad, picnic table with a metal plate to fire up your grill, fake grass and shady, very clean toilet and shower facilities. Meet our RV neighbor, Joanie, and chatted with her for about an hour. Took a nap from 2-4 pm. Alan was very crabby so I sent him off to clean up and shower. Alan had wi-fi problems…hopefully...

Apr 12, 2014 - Almost too easy

Knock on wood, but this has been the most uneventful 780 miles I have ever towed. Highway conditions have been excellent, there has been very little traffic, the weather has been perfect and all equipment has operated without problems. Under these conditions, Nevada travel is a real treat. We left Hawthorne well after 9 AM and arrived in Sparks just past noon. Today's 131 miles was the least we have traveled since leaving San Tan Valley. It was very relaxing. Sparks Marina RV Park is one of our favorite travel-thru locations. The park is...

Oct 7, 2013 - Sparks Nevada Rally

On Monday afternoon we moved 43 miles to Sparks Nevada for another Newmar Rally that starts on Thursday. On Saturday we all rode a 1918 vintage steam engine driven train from Carson City to Virginia City and spent 3 hours walking the town. Virginia City was a focal point for silver and gold mining. On Sunday we went to downtown Reno to the Italian Festival. We were surprised by the size of this festival. There was a lot of stage entertainment and LOTS of Italian food vendors and a sauce contest. Of course we sampled the foods for our Sunday...

Sep 25, 2013 - Sparks, Nevada

September 25, 2013 Sparks, Nevada We left Elko about 9 am. It was a cool 51 degrees, partial clouds with a 10 mph wind. It will turn out to be another windy 286 mile drive to the Sparks Marina RV Park in Sparks, Nevada. We stopped at a rest stop at mile marker 83 (junction of I-80 and 95) for lunch. Cherie said it was almost time for the final race of the America’s Cup, so I turned on the TV and locked onto the Satellite a few minutes before the race. We invited the Hills over to watch the race. We had a few sprinkles on the trip but when...

Sep 25, 2013 - Sparks, Nevada

Elko, Nevada was chilly this morning and during the night it was very windy. We left Elko around 0900 and headed west. Yesterday there was a sign warning drivers on I80 that there were numerous construction projects for the next 50 miles and they were not kidding. We did not count the number of projects but there must have been at least a dozen. It seemed that as one project ended and you accelerated up to speed another project presented itself and you were decelerating again. After the first 50 miles the projects did stop although we did...

Newfoundland 2013

Jun 10, 2013 - Sparks, Nevada

June 10, 2013 Sparks, Nevada The first day of our trip got off to a slow start. At 4 am this morning, we had cloud-to-cloud lighting with light showers that woke us up. Elden pulled the motorhome out of the back yard to the front at 7 am to hook-up the truck. The weather was a cool 65 degrees, overcast and breezy. We thought we had everything under control to head out at 8:30 am but with various issues closing up the house, we finally left at 9:15. The first stop was at Lodi flying-J for fuel. Back on the road, we headed up I-80 to Sparks,...

Jun 10, 2013 - Sparks, Nevada

Marge and Ross left San Ramon around 0750 so they could beat the school traffic that clogs the street every school day from about 0800 to 0830. We were to meet our traveling partners, Elden and Cherie Ables, at the Flying J Truck Stop in Lodi, California between 0930 and 1000. Marge and Ross arrived in Lodi around 0915 and the Ables were a few minutes late. We both refueled and left Lodi around 1045. The weather in the San Ramon was 107 Saturday and Sunday was at least 15 degrees cooler. This morning we awoke to damp streets and very light...

Newfoundland 2013

Jun 3, 2013 - Sparks, Nevada

June 3 Fueled up this morning at $3.99 a gallon. Headed across Nevada today and there is a lot of hills and valley between here and Fernley as well as a lot of twists in the road. Sacramento Pass 7162; Conners Pass 7722; Robinson Summit 7607; Little Antelope Summit 7438; Pancake Summit 6521; Pinto Summit 5788; Hickison Summit ; New Pass Summit 6348; Austin Summit 6505; Mount Airy Summit 7608; Sand Springs...

May 16, 2013 - Travel day - Hawthorne to Sparks, Nevada

The roads were very good today and we didn't have any rain until we got to Fallon, Nevada. Then it started to sprinkle some, Ken turned on the wipers and whoa! the wiper on the driver's side broke off. I mean it broke off and flew away. Gee, now another problem! But we made it to Sparks Marina RV Park ok and Ken will handle the problem of no wiper. We was just very lucky that it was not pouring and we will be here for a month so plenty of time to get that taken care of. Pulled in and got parked and about 30 minutes later Betty & Ted and...

2013 - Here we come

Apr 14, 2013 - Sparks Marina RV Park

While we are in Graeagle, good friends Keith & Nancy in Quincy are providing a place to park our motorhome with full hookups. Just behind their house, we have 1 1/2 acres that we are also trying to sell. We just listed the property with another realtor to see if we can find another source of buyers. In the picture of Camp Osocheap, our property is in the pines in the background which you can see between the house and the motorhome. We took the motorhome to Reno today to take care of some business in here and spend a few days with our...
