Jun 3, 2012 - Reno NV

We got a fairly early – for us anyway – start today on our trip to Lake Tahoe. The weather cooperated spectacularly. It was bright and sunny and cool as we left and about 75° for our trip around the lake. The trip to the north side of the lake only took about an hour from the campground and with hardly any Sunday morning traffic, it was a breeze. We got to the first overlook above the lake and were just stunned by what we saw. The lake reflects the amount of sunlight so today’s bright blue skies made the lake a dark blue in the deep areas...

Westbound Again

Jun 2, 2012 - Reno NV

We started the day with a short drive south on Hwy. 395 from Susanville on our way to a campground just into Nevada on the north side of Reno. It was a pretty breezy 90 minute ride and the bus handled better than it would have before we had the work done so it looks like it was money well spent. While it was only breezy, we’ll have to see how it handles on a windy day. My preference would be to avoid windy days, but I don’t have that kind of luck. We parked the house at the Bordertown Casino & RV Resort and set up for a what is going to end...

Westbound Again

May 17, 2012 - Reno

We have been motorhoming since June 2009 and had not been on a long road trip in the car since we have had the coach --- so we decided to drive the car to Reno. But the main reason being the time crunch. Fran had bowled in Dallas/Fort Worth the end of April, then she had to bowl in Reno the 11th and 12th of May and Ken had to bowl in Baton Rouge on the 14th and 15th of June. Gee we was exhausted just thinking about the fast trip in the coach so we decided to experience again the old fashion way of traveling. It was a fun trip but also made...

Apr 17, 2012 - A Stop in Reno

Today, we opted for a short travel day and stopped in Reno/Sparks. There was sunshine and blue skies and light traffic all the way ... a very uneventful trip. One might say it was pretty boring. There is not much to see between Winnemucca and Reno but we were only on the road for just over three hours so it wasn't too bad. -- We are staying at the Sparks Marina RV Park which has to be one of the nicest parks we have stayed in. We were here four years ago right after the park just opened. At that time, it was way out in the boonies but now,...

Pretty Damn Nice!

Apr 5, 2012 - Nevada to California

We woke up to a sunny day and headed out about 0800. It was about a 4 hour drive to Reno, and from there we were cutting off to highway 80 for our destination of Corning, California. The truck doesn’t have the best ride. Yes, it is RAM TOUGH, but that is a guy thing. For us girls, we like our creature comforts. A rumbling diesel engine is not all that comfortable, and I must say the roads in this country need some work! Especially in California! Good heavens, I felt like every part of my body was on a vibrator (no snide remarks, please) and...

Yippee Tyo's!

Apr 4, 2012 - Traveling Day through Nevada

We had to say goodbye to Larry & Lee Ann today, as we need to be back in Seattle by April 11 for a doctor appointment on my hip pain. We really wanted to stay another day to enjoy their company a little longer, but it was best that we hit the road. We hope to see them in South Dakota when we head back to Rhode Island for the summer. I added more photos from Hoover Dam and Boulder City. Didn’t want to overwhelm you yesterday. We were only about 40 min from Las Vegas, when we headed out, but decided to just drive through. I could feel my...

Yippee Tyo's!

Feb 5, 2012 - Dick & Claire in $$ Reno $$

OK – where were we??? Oh yes, solar! So far the solar is working great. We are running mostly from the electricity generated by the panels during the day. In the evening we run off our batteries and the panels recharges them the next day. This is without tilting the panels back toward the sun which would give us even more output. Very happy with it thus far and would highly recommend Marvin Braun of PrecisionRV.com for solar installations. I forgot to mention that, on Saturday night before leaving for Reno, we went out for a nice dinner at...

Oct 24, 2011 - Reno again

Stayed at the Grand Sierra Resort. Gave me a good deal on the one night stay and this was the best (other than losing about $100 gambling) in the Reno area. It had great water pressure for showers in the morning and it was right next to the river. Next time, I would like to stay longer to do the golfing into the pond, fish in the river and enjoy all the other non-gambling things they have. It is also only about a mile and half from the baseball stadium along the river trail. I did over a 7 mile run on the river trail and you could go...

Oct 23, 2011 - Bordertown RV Park, Nevada

Feeling much better today we got an early start and left Elko by 0730 and 5 hours later we arrived in Bordertown RV park located 15 miles north of Reno and the intersection of I-80 and US-395. Total distance for the day was about 285 miles. The weather again was very good. The skies were clear, the temperatures were cool and the wind was well below normal. The scenery is all sage brush and sand, rolling hills and valleys between and surrounded by mountains. The road was good except for sections near Winnemucca and Battle Mountain. The most...

Oct 6, 2011 - Nevada

I sure am glad to have my netbook back! My cigarette charger melted and I had forgotten my wall charger sooooooo thanks to my Facebook friends and their advise; I hunted down a Staples store on my trusty GPS, complete with phone number, called the helpful manager and explained my situation and BINGO……$115 later, I have the ultimate charger for car/home for anything imaginable. Chock it up as a business expense. We arrived in Reno, Nevada on Monday. After our delivery we were in need of an oil change for our Peterbilt. She gets it every...

Sep 27, 2011 - Reno & Virginia City

Yesterday, we spent the day walking around Reno. We visited a few of the other casinos and checked out a couple gift shops. We found Reno to be somewhat run down and were a little disappointed. Today we took a ride to Virginia City. This is a small old western town up in the mountains. The road going to the town was one of the most hair-raising roads I have ever been on. It was very steep and winding all the way up the mountain. It seemed like it was never going to end. Coming back, we asked one of the locals for a better route, and it was...

Sep 27, 2011 - Virginia City NV

Today we went to Virginia City, NV. As much as we were disappointed in Reno, we found Virginia City well worth the stop. The road to Silver City climbs up, up, up into the Sierra-Nevada mountains and it seems like it will never end. Just for the fun of it I checked the altitude of Reno (4500 feet) and Virginia City (6496 feet) and we climbed about 2000 feet. The road had the most fantastic view in the world, if you could look at it without getting dizzy and sick to your stomach. Silver City is a most fasinating place to wander around....
