Aug 5, 2012 - The First Weekend

The weekend has been great! Yesterday we explored another dog park. I approved this one! I romped and rolled in the lush green grass, retrieved and washed tennis balls, chased and was chased, and made a perimeter sweep to see what might be lurking among the sage. Then, this morning we returned to the canal path. Brenda unhooked my leash and off I ran chasing a rabbit - yes, they have them here! Becoming thirsty, I remembered the canal full of water and began looking for a place to get down to it. I spied a spot where I could just get my...

Aug 3, 2012 - August 3 Moving-in Day

Remember the trail we were going to explore? It follows a water filled canal which winds its way through scrubby desert. Brenda let go of the leash and I ran all around until I got hot. The water looked refreshing and I looked and looked for a place where I could get in. All the while, Brenda was calling and coaxing me to come back. Her voice became urgent as she warned me not to go into the water. I felt emboldened by my thirst, but decided to try it another day. On the walk back home, Brenda asked a big dog's man if it was safe for dogs...

Aug 2, 2012 - August 2 The Long Walk

This morning we went for a long walk. I was beginning to feel anxious - like maybe Brenda was lost. We really checked out the neighborhood. Tomorrow we're going to go "off road" and follow a weedy foot trail to see where it leads. Check back tomorrow to find out! I met Marshall today. He is a golden retriever like me, but he is gray in the muzzle. I think he must be about a hundred. His friend wouldn't let him get too close to me because he was grumpy. Brenda and his lady talked a few minutes about boredom or boarding, or something. The...

Aug 1, 2012 - August 1 Reno

I expected to go to the car again this morning, but surprise, we went for a walk instead. The air was crystal clear and cool. We discovered a small park with lots of lush green grass where Brenda let me run free for a few minutes. I ran and rolled and ran. The grass was so soft, I threw myself down and buried my face in it. I've been cautiously exploring this new place Brenda says is home. The backyard is small but the grass there is nice. Brenda left the big sliding door open this morning after our walk. Suddenly, a wild flurry of wings...

Jul 31, 2012 - July 31 to Reno, Nevada

I stood beside Brenda, still sleeping, and panted loudly, hoping to rouse her. Success! She and I went outside and the bracingly cool air did the rest! We were up for the day. Brenda muttered something about four-thirty and time zone. We headed for a park we found the day before and took a few turns around it to stretch our legs before starting out. McDonald's drive through provided the coffee and oatmeal Brenda wanted for breakfast. This day began like all the others which made me feel anxious. Brenda tried to reassure me, but I was...

Jul 27, 2012 - Reno, NV

Friday morning, we packed up and said goodbye to Grass Valley, the beautiful pines and our fun time at the river. It’s about a 2 hour drive to Reno, but after driving Hwy 20 through the Tahoe National Forest the other day in the car, we decided this wasn’t the best way to go with the RV. So we headed down to Auburn and then took I-80 straight to Reno. This added 30 minutes to the drive, but it was a lot less stressful. The traffic was heavy, though, with LOTS 18 wheelers . It seems to be a dangerous stretch of road because it’s so step and...

Jul 23, 2012 - Day 9 - Reno Nevada

Well, we are now in Reno Nevada; no we are not getting a divorce. We could not update yesterday as there was no internet access at the sites,(how's that for a KOA campground). The weather here is very good at 78F, finally we can breath. They say the scenery on the Canadian prairies is boring but if they want boring they should drive I 80 across Utah and Nevada; absolutely barren, there is nothing but mountains and sagebrush. We are doing great and tomorrow afternoon we will be in Oakland visiting with Ann Marie. I am not sure if we will...

Jun 15, 2012 - about Reno 2

#65 6/15/2012 We went to the casino again for breakfast, gambled a bit, we didn't lose, we stayed about the same, so we are $100 to the good (at least on the gambling part). It won't pay for all our repairs this trip, but at least we didn't lose any money here. The rodeo was great, we had a good time. We visited with some old friends. We weren't the only ones having trip problems this year. Our friend Donna from CSI Saddlepads has had nothing but troubles as well, from breaking down to thieves breaking in. Here's hoping she has a safe trip...

Jun 14, 2012 - about Reno

#64 6/14/2012 Yesterday turned into a good day. We went to the casino to eat and decided to gamble a bit. We came out over $100 ahead of the game. Always nice to come out ahead. Today we did a few chores at home, then went to Extreme Bulls. It was fun, tomorrow is the rodeo. It was a little warm today, but cooled off nice in the evening. No pictures today.

Jun 13, 2012 - Reno!

#63 6/13/2012 Battle Mountain was the pits last nite. Don't ever stay there unless you are desperate. There are no restroom unless you go to the truck stop. You have water, electric and sewer and nothing else. It is mainly a transient campground. Oh well, live and learn. We made the trek into Reno today with no problems. We will be here until Saturday morning when we will head into Sacramento. We will enjoy the bulls and the rodeo for the next two days. No pictures today. 219 miles today

Jun 12, 2012 - The Wastelands

Drove the Tardis through the Sierra Mountains to about 7,000ft above sea level. Through Donner Pass and down into Reno, NV. I was going to stay the day as I last saw Reno 30 years ago but the once glittering jewel in the desert now looks faded and tawdry. I then headed into the desert wastelands where I proceeded to get creeped out by the lack of life and the occasional roadside crash shrine. Dead and haunted. The Tardis looks like something out of the "Road Warrior" and so do I. Dirty and unshaven. All I need is a sawed off shotgun and a...

Jun 4, 2012 - Reno NV

Today was a dodge-the-weather and do-some-errands day. And dodging the weather was a good idea. We left here about 10:00 and did some shopping for some non-critical thingies and then went to In-N-Out Burger for lunch. I had heard that I-N-O Burger was supposed to be the world’s greatest fast food burger. I was misinformed. It was edible, but certainly not great. But it was cheap – maybe that’s where it got its “great” reputation. We got back to the campground about 1:30 and did nada the rest of the day. The weather made doing anything else...
