May 22, 2009 - A New Computer

I had one task in mind for today--get a new computer. Several months ago, one of the hinges holding the monitor onto the keyboard of my Dell came apart. Since then, I have handled it with kid gloves and it has managed to stay together. A couple weeks ago, the CD drive decided not to work. Since then, I have coaxed it to write documents and photos I have made recently, but I don’t trust it not to destroy a CD that has any data on it. I have also been getting error messages when I try to shut down. These have been like flashing lights telling...

Apr 28, 2009 - That Spencer (gross!)

Reno RV park is great. We've been to the reunion and enjoyed visiting and listening to old sea stories. Spencer remains a concern. He kept us up all Saturday night, and continues to cough, sneeze and have GI problems. We're planning a veterinary visit first thing Monday. We found a vet close to the RV park. He examined Spencer, couldn't find any residual grass, and prescribed antibiotic for possible gastroenteritis. Upon return to the RV, Spencer's sneezing escalated. We looked at him, and he had a piece of green coming from his nose. I...

Fuehr's Tours 2009

Apr 25, 2009 - Klamath Falls to Reno

We packed up, and bid farewell to our very happy rooster who lived next to the rig, as well as his harem. The days are beautiful with clear blue skies, but the cool wind persists. Our journey down US 97 took us to some significant elevations (5800 ft.) and evidence of very recent snowfall. We stopped for coffee in Alturas, and sat at a picnic table in the city park. A wildlife refuge adjacent town must have been responsible for the bird population. I have never heard so many singing and chirping birds in one place. Charlie was mesmerized...

Apr 24, 2009 - Back to Reno

Rebecca didn't have much time on our previous stop here, before she went to Germany, so we thought we'd stop real quick for a visit with all three kids and Dave's brother Frank and his wife Sharon. Pictures from Rebecca's trip to Germany will be forth coming, just a few days more, thanks for your patience. We got a suprise phone call on the 18th of April while loading up the truck with shed stuff, son-in-law Billy notified us of the birth of a great grand daughter, Caylie-Ann LaRay McKnight. Here's the first picture of her along with a...

Apr 10, 2009 - Rebecca takes a trip

After landing in Reno (on the 4th), we were able to take Sunday day to run around town like chickens with no heads, (the 5th)! Monday (the 6th), was "D-day" (departure-day) for Rebecca. She boarded an aircraft which took her to San Francisco then to Frankfurt, Germany. Our oldest son, US Army Capt David Bock was getting his first command, Signal Company. Rebecca wanted to be there for the change of command ceremony. We also saw it as an opportunity for Rebecca to get some badly needed rest and recuperation (R&R) from the duties in Eugene....

We are supposed to be headed for Sacramento early today, but we have to wait out a snow storm in Truckee. 8" last night. i-80 is closed to all but those with chains. Apr 5, 2009 - On our way to Reno, NV

We had planned to leave Eugene heading East via hwy 58 over Willamette pass to hwy 97 then turn South to Reno, taking two days to make the trip. However, due to a lingering storm and 9 to 11 inches of snow on that summit, making it closed too traffic, we took I-5. About 80 miles south the rain quit and the pavement dry, yippee! The first day drive we made it to Hat Creek, Calif, a classic fly fishing area. The next day, it was an easy drive of 130 miles to Reno and the Grand Sierra Resort. While at Hat Creek, we stayed at the Rancheria RV...

Apr 4, 2009 - We leave Eugene

We want to thank all those who made our stay in Eugene friendly and welcome. Going into this care giving situation we knew our position here would be short-term, after 15 weeks we have departed Eugene, OR. We feel have helped Linda get through perhaps the toughest part, surgery and the first 11 weeks of Chemo-therapy. Wanting for us to continue our RV lifestyle, Linda released us and others have stepped in to see her through to the end of this difficult time for her. You'll see the set of pics are a conglomerate of pics from our experience...

Feb 2, 2009 - Back from Reno

Well we had a great time in Reno for the Super Bowl. We had free room and tickets for the weekend, the rooms were great and the party was fantastic. Big screens everywhere and great food all you could eat, like a big buffet, hot food, appetizers, carved meats, deserts, salads, fruits, WOW what a spread. And the game was awesome as you may know. We stopped a few places on the way back and saw some sites, but mainly wanted to get back.

Oct 30, 2008 - Sad news...

Just a short note. Mother called this evening to let us know that my grandmother passed away this morning at 9:30am. It was not unexpected, she was put in the hospital a week or so ago. She had a heart attack at home alone and didn't let anyone know until the next day. After being hospitalized, she had at least 3 more. Her kidneys also failed, among other things. Her poor body was just shutting down. She was a young, age 93. I called her yesterday to tell her that I loved her. She let me know she was ready. She lived a full, vibrant life...

Oct 23, 2008 - Lake Tahoe to Reno California/Nevada 09 October 2008

Jeff Thursday. We awoke to a drastic change in temperature. Yesterday was hot, and it took the sign at Bear Lake to remind me we were in bear country. Today I have no problem thinking of the bears hibernating for the winter. Lake Tahoe was named by the first white man in the area as Lake Bonpland after a French botanist; but the name never caught on. I wonder why? The lake then had many other names but local people kept calling it Lake Tahoe, based on a word of the Washo Native American tribe who used to fish the lake in spring time,...

Oct 12, 2008 - Reno

Having skipped Las Vegas we decided on a trip to Reno (its poor relation) to check out the Nevada gambling scene. Perhaps naively we were expecting glitz and glamour but many of the casinos were down market and somewhat depressing with people glued to their seats at the 'slots'. In contrast there was lively night time entertainment although our spontaneous approach to travel meant that we just missed a gig by Carlos Santana and were too early for one by Neil Young.
