May 14, 2013 - Lake Almanor, CA to Reno, NV

We left today and went as far as Reno, for an 8:15am appointment to have the A/C on the trailer fixed and have the wheel bearings packed. The RV repair place suggested we stay in the parking lot of Baldini's Casino, since it was only about a mile from them. It was really windy but we didn't care; we weren't BBQ-ing tonight or eating outside. We left the trailer there and went to the Atlantis so I could have my raw oysters and Dave could have his clam chowder-bread bowl. We gambled a little at Baldini's; I lost $40 and Dave won $10. We were...

Apr 18, 2013 - Santa Rosa & Napa Valley

We started our day at the Santa Rosa Visitors Center, where they suggested we take two loop drives, the first took us through what were described as mom and pop operations then out to the Pacific Ocean coast and back to Santa Rosa. The other would take us through Napa Valley. Our first stop was Ferrari- Carano, which as you can tell from the pictures is a pretty successful mom and pop. Jean picked up her first bottle, and declared this was going to be a very good day. Our second stop was Raymond Burr’s, very neat place, but she didn’t find...

Apr 16, 2013 - Reno, NV

Monday morning the winds seemed to calm down a bit so we headed North for Reno, NV. Our thought was to stay east of the mountains hoping to avoid some of the very high wind warnings. We decided not to revisit Sequoia, Yosemite, or Lake Tahoe, primarily because the passes were closed, due to snow and wind. Our plan worked at least partially; we avoided the really high winds, predicted to be 85 mph in some of the canyons, but we did buck some serious head winds all day. Gas mileage was about 7 mpg and we had no trouble staying under the 55...

Apr 5, 2013 - Lincoln to Chester to Reno

Okay, okay. I'm fine and safe and enjoying every day! I spent two days with my dear friends Jo and Wayne in Lincoln, about 20 miles northwest of Sacramento, playing lots of Scrabble. Not quite enough, however, as I left paying Wayne $.78. It's much more fun when I take his money. They are wonderful hosts and Hunter and I had a fabulous time playing with them and their two dogs, and one of Jo's friends who joined us for games in the afternoons. From Lincoln I headed north up Hwy 99, took a right in Red Bluff onto Hwy 36 then spent the night...

We are back home in Reno. After an always nice stay at Jackson Rancheria we left Saturday mid-morning and made the 4 hour trip on I-80 over the Sierra's arriving home around 2:30PM. Now we can get some things done, like taxes, around here and of course get ready to fly to Wisconsin for daughter Kimi's wedding in early April. Plan now is to be back in Reno on April 16th and head out again around May 1st. This next trip will take us up the No. California Oregon Washington coast and from there who knows. Thanks for following us along on our...

Dec 15, 2012 - Heading out from Reno...

Left Reno about 10:30am Saturday and drove to Hawthorne, NV which is about a 3 hour drive. Stayed overnight at a very nice campground called Whiskey Flats and by the photos you'll see how how 'flat' it is. Hawthorne is at the south end of Walker Lake which is a very large lake and provided a great view going in.

Nov 1, 2012 - Clearlake to Reno...

Todays drive takes us down US 20, where we picked up I-5 South to Sacramento, before finally taking I-80 East into Reno, Nevada. It was a nice drive, although a bit depressing to see all of the damage done by the 7,000 acre Wye fire east of Clearlake Oaks in August. At the bottom of the hill we arrived In Williams where we made a brief stop at the Charter Family Fruit Stand. Larry wanted to pick up some fresh walnuts (they had been picked on Tuesday!) and after much debate I finally selected a jar of Spicy Greenbeans, Lemon Citrus Green...

We woke up to a beautiful sunny day this morning. Turkey called the Harley shop for a spotlight replacement, seeing as a rock from a semi smashed a hole thru his. He asked if we could get our bikes in for a regular service today, if possible and they said yes. We booked in to this Grand Sierra Hotel for another night (which we got at a super rate) and then took the bikes in. The HD shop was not even a mile away. So, back to the hotel for a pool day!

Sep 9, 2012 - Reno, Nevada

We hit the road early this with the threat of morning T storms looming in the distance. It was a little cool, only +11, but it warmed quickly and we were cooking in the afternoon. It was easy to see why they call it the loneliest road in America, there were very few towns over the 550 km stretch we did today and lots of hills, desert and pavement. We were cruising along pretty good this morning and another biker passed us going well over 80 mph, as we kept going and rounded a corner here was the biker pulled over by highway patrol. It was...

Aug 15, 2012 - Reno, NV

We had another long, hard pull through the mountains. We drove through lots of smoke from nearby wildfires. Smoke was thickest as we passed the entrance to Lassen Volcanic National Park in the Lassen National Forest. Lassen Peak is the southern-most volcano of the 14 Cascade Range Volcanoes; we didn’t have a chance to see this one because of the fires. As we drove the northern edge of the Sierra Nevada, we crossed the Nevada border into Reno. While our campground was nice, it was all asphalt w/very little greenery. Poor Bonnie had no grass...

Aug 13, 2012 - Bordertown RV Park, Nevada

Saturday morning we left Salt Lake City around 0730 and drove to Elko, Nevada where we spend the night and we had a great dinner at a local Basque Restaurant and we had plenty of leftovers. The weather was in the low 70's when we left Salt Lake City and by the time we arrived in Elko the temperature was into mid 90's. Two of our friends who are fellow Allegro Club members are traveling a portion of US Highway 395 that runs along the eastern side of the Sierra Mountain Range. We spoke with them from Elko and learned they were going to...
