Dec 7, 2012 - Made It To Las Vegas!!!

Arrived in Las Vegas about 2pm on Thursday in time to make a quick stop at the truck wash with the 5'er before heading to our final destination. They had it in & out in about 15 minutes with 8 of them working on it. Looked great when they were done. $47 which included a protectant and doing the tires. We have vowed to never wash it ourselves again! We picked it up from the Ford dealership at 10am and kept our fingers crossed for the entire 125 mile trip to Vegas. It ran beautifully so it appears all is well. We do have one more turbo issue...

Dec 5, 2012 - Truck update....

Well, we're still here at the Oasis Rv Park in Mesquite and our truck is still in St George, Utah at the Ford dealership. We hope to get it back late this afternoon. It took an extra day as they needed to get some info from the Ford dealership in Valley Verde, Arizona about the injectors we had replaced a couple of years ago. You might remember reading about that fiasco. Anyway, apparently we not only blew our turbo hose the other night but we also have 3 high pressure oil leaks. And, to make matters worse, when we had the last fuel filter...

Oct 29, 2012 - Welcome - To Fantasy Island

We left Draper with clear skies - albeit cold. It was a pleasant three hour drive to our next layover - an overnight in Beaver, Utah. We were supposed to stay at Beaver Canyon Campground, but since they had turned off the water, we decided on the local KOA. We're not crazy about KOA's but it was very clean and well maintained. Better yet - no more snow and at a balmy 57 degrees we quickly enjoyed a glass of wine at the provided table. The next day we were headed for the desert destination of Mesquite, Nevada but we made a shortstop in...

Apr 15, 2012 - On the road again....

As this is being written we are nestled into an RV ‘slot’ near the CasaBlanca Casino in Mesquite, Nevada. While not on our original plan, it was on the ‘just in case’ list. Because our plans at the beginning of this trip were adjusted, modified, or replaced we felt having contingency plans were important. So why are we here? Read on... Our last week at McDowell Mountain Park was very quiet. Each day it got quieter as the park emptied with RV’s leaving and none coming in. The day before we left there were 6 of 40 spots occupied and 4 of us...

Oct 26, 2011 - Mesquite, Nevada

Today was our first travel day heading to Colorado. We didn't make it very far, only about 80 miles to Mesquite, Nevada. The wind was blowing with gusts of 35 miles per hour. We decided to stop early and let the bad weather pass us. This is Betty's first time traveling by RV. We are enjoying having her ride along with us. We hope to get an early start in the morning. We have about 700 more miles to go before arriving in Colorado Springs, Colorado. We are staying at the Casa Blanca RV Park for $20 a night. It has full hook-ups with Cable...

Nov 4, 2010 - Mesquite, Nevada

We didn't get too far today -- we saw a beautiful golf course along the highway when going through Mesquite, so we decided to stop. They were advertising full service RV sites of $19.99 -- can't beat that. We stayed a couple of nights. Had a great game of golf, started at 1:15 and didn't even get 18 holes in before it got dark! Can you believe that?? We had quite a slow group ahead of us -- we were in no hurry so we just plugged along behind them, never once thinking we wouldn't get done before dark! Oh well, live and learn, ha, ha,

Oct 18, 2010 - Greater Mesquite Arts Fesitival

We attended the 2010 Greater Mesquite Art's Festival in beautiful Mesquite, Nevada over the Columbus Day weekend. We stayed at the Desert Skies RV Resort just outside Mesquite. The RV resort is a very nice place and we would highly recommend it to anyone. The weather was on the warm side for the festival but not unbearable. The crowds attending the festival were not quite what we expected but it was enjoyable. On a down side, my wife took me to the cleaners playing pool at the resort clubhouse :( It is always a little wierd to be on...

Oct 15, 2010 - Mesquite, Nevada

As of last night we weren't quite sure where we were going to stay for the next three nights. We "planned" to stay in St. George, UT, we new we wanted to get someplace warmer and St. George has been averaging about 20 degrees warmer than Cedar City, and it's just 37 miles SW. We got to St. George but the two places we thought we would stay; Flying J was closed, and the Walmarts didn't allow overnight parking. Since it was a Friday, and we didn't have reservations anywhere, we got out our Casino Camping Book, and checked on Mesquite, all...

Mar 28, 2010 - On our way home

We spent Saturday night in Kingman, AZ and will headed toward Mesquite, NV Sunday. Should arrive home about Wednesday. That being said, I have to tell you about our last few days in Apache Junction. Little had I expected such a grand and glorious time. I never realized you could meet new people and become such good friends in such a small amount of time. Aside from the fact that Linda and I find the Apache Junction area so beautiful, there is an unspoken quality about the area that sets it apart from the rest of the Phoenix area. Yes,...

Mar 9, 2010 - A Day in Mesquite, NV

Today we took a drive to Mesquite, Nv.. Visited with old Refinery friends Carl and Billie Glover. We saw bunch of really neat Senior retirement homes that are pretty low priced, compared to a couple years ago. Lots of Golf courses that are PGA quality. We had a great lunch at the Eureka Casino and tried our hand at 1 cent poker machines. The weather is cool and rainy, but warmer than we have seen at home in a while..

Nov 15, 2009 - Mesquite, Nevada

The flight from Edmonton to Las Vegas went without a hitch. Rick Fluery, the owner of Argyll Motorsports, was waiting for us when we arrived and took us for a quick tour of the Las Vegas Strip. It has been perhaps 25-30 years since I have been in Vegas. I did, of course, recognize the city from watching CSI but TV can’t convey the true spectacle of it all. There is excess run amok in every direction. It would take weeks just to absorb the highlights but I expect a few days would put me into sensory overload. From Las Vegas, Rick whisked us...

Oct 4, 2009 - 10-3-09 Viva Las Vegas

10-3-09 Viva Las Vegas! What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas! That was up until today! Yesterday after spending a relaxing time at the pool and enjoying a great dinner with the Patchetts, we decided to visit Las Vegas. After a loooooong day of walking and exploring Vegas, here’s what we observed at day’s end. When most people think of Vegas they picture the main strip from a helicopter flying above the beautiful theme hotels with the sun reflecting off the mirrored windows or the lights sparkling at night. But we saw Vegas from the...
