Mar 19, 2020 - Laughlin Nevada - March 19 - 20

Staying at the Avi Casino for 2 nights while we wait for cooler temperatures north of us to warm up prior to moving again on Saturday. The Governor of Nevada has ordered the shutdown of all casinos in Nevada. I kind of expected this, and it is something to see an empty parking here at the Avi. There was one small Indian casino back in Fort Mohave still open when we came past it 1/2 hr ago. Seems they don't have to follow the same rules? Good drive today ,no issues today,we pulled into a cloud filled sky but no rain as of 6 pm

Mar 16, 2020 - Laughlin, Nevada

. Pablo Picasso's 1921 painting ''Nature Morte'' is being raffled off for charity on May 20th for just over $100, a bargain when compared to the millions of dollars the famous Spanish painter's work regularly goes for. The money will go to help bring clean water to African villages. . With the coronavirus threat looming, I decided to skip going to the casinos, and used the hundred bucks I would have lost anyway to buy a lottery ticket for the Picaso. https://1picasso100euros.com/ . Leaving the RV park in Morro Bay, California on...

Oct 21, 2019 - Another night in a casino; the plague of the caddisflies

In the morning of October 19 we stopped at the Central Nevada museum In Tonopah. Roger found an old tractor from the 1920s, and we wandered through the mining shacks, outhouses, equipment and other paraphenalia from the early mining days. The previous afternoon I had chatted with one of the museum staff; she and her husband used to farm, but he has passed away and she has leased the land to some young hemp farmers. She says they may know hemp but they don't know farming. After a look around the museum we drove to Laughlin, Nevada, a...

Mar 26, 2019 - Laughlin, NV

We started our trek home and stayed at Laughlin/Avi KOA at Avi Casino in Laughlin. Unfortunately they put us next to a large group of some RV club. People cut through our site and were pretty noisy in the AM. Not the best park, but not unlike many such parks in the desert. The nicest part of this trip was seeing the desert in bloom. The area has had enough rain and moisture to make the flowers of the desert pretty spectacular. Laundry room needed some TLC.

Mar 3, 2019 - Drive To Vegas

We had a very busy day today. We drove about 500 miles to Laughlin, Nevada in our car. We spent one night resting at the Colorado Belle Hotel. It is shaped like a huge riverboat. We are on our way to Las Vegas to visit with family. We found out that Jared and Madison were visiting Kim in Vegas, about 600 miles from Albuquerque, where we are staying in our RV. We decided immediately that we had to go and see our new Great Granddaughter Piper. We had planned to drive to Utah to visit with them in their home state, but could not resist going...

Another Casino...sorry kids were spending your inheritance!!! Set up at Don Laughlins Riverside RV resort and went for Fish and Chips. Dropped $60 bucks tonite in about 10 minutes prior to supper. We felt rejected,it hurt our feelings so we left, NO fish and chips! I guess we are NOT considered serious gamblers LOL. Huge place over 700 sites,my first impressions "would definitely come back here again" Tomorrow will be another long day taking us back to El Centro to Sunbeam Lake resort,a place we quite enjoyed last November. We have booked 1...

Oct 3, 2018 - Plan B ( yet again)

We had quite the storm in Provo last night.. The very high wind made the rain pelt the window of the hotel. It was warm and sunny when I got up this morning but after checking conditions at the Great Basin I decided to cancel my visit. I called my friend in Mesquite and we met for lunch. It's always nice to catch up with Jane and Jim. While we were eating there was a downpour but when I was ready to go it was warm and sunny again. I love the drive from St. George Utah to Mesquite, Nevada. The road through the Virgin River Gorge is full of...

Aug 10, 2018 - Riverside Casino - Laughlin, Nevada

A few weeks ago, I got a call from Riverside Casino in Laughlin, Nevada offering me a free 4 day, 3 night trip from Minneapolis, including round-trip on Sun Country Airlines and a nice room in the casino hotel. I've taken that trip a few times over the years, a heck of a deal for around $300, but this time they offered me the trip for free. . Hazel and I stayed in Laughlin on our Spring trip to and from California, on the way our at the Avi Indian casino RV park south of town, and at the Riverside on our way back to Minnesota. While at...

May 21, 2018 - Trip Home with stop In Laughlin,, NV.

We left Tucson about. 615 headed to Laughlin. The doggies were in the back of the truck. Brady did not want any of that she was throwing a fit scratching at the window and I am sure she was wining the whole time. So about two hours into the trip I gave in and let them in the back seat (it was getting warm outside). We stopped a few times and I let them stretch their legs, but just wanted to snif everything. I really did not have any trouble putting them in the truck when it was time to go because they did not want to be in the back. At one...

Mar 26, 2018 - Another day at Avi...and last?

I don't want to jinx anything but I think today is our last day here. Tomorrow night we expect to be at the Cummins facility in North Las Vegas. I will cross my fingers and Sue's fingers too, if it will help, that we make it. I handled my bank duties first thing this morning and settled in to trying to contact a local diesel repair shop that had a mobile tech. The one that had been recommended to us said they could have someone here by noon. Great...come on out. We had not heard from Coach-Net by noon so I called and they determined that I...

Mar 25, 2018 - Pahrump Bound...

By now you have glanced at the pictures and seen the map location so you have a hint we are not in Pahrump. It started well, up early, walk Sadie, quick breakfast, flush tanks and prepare to pull out. And we did a little before 9:30 a.m. A quarter of a mile and we were back in Arizona to head for the connection to send us on our way. Fifteen miles from our KOA parking place we headed west on NV 163. And it started up hill. Probably a 6% grade. But this is no problem for our Cummins 8.9L 400 horsepower engine...until a warning light comes on...

Mar 24, 2018 - Uh, and plans change

Sadie had a better night. Sue was sure it was worse because she woke up everytime Sadie made a sound. Except Sadie only had a spell every hour or so which was really an improvement. Sue was awakened so many times she was sure it was every 10 minutes. Sadie and I walked for about 10 minutes early. Then we both had breakfast. Sue had breakfast shortly after. It was a slow day until about 2:00. I had been having a little stomach issue but I was feeling better. As I have done for the last 30 years, I decided it was time to find out if I was...
