Mar 25, 2018 - Last Update Vegas

This will be our last update from Las Vegas. We are getting the RV ready for travel to Colorado. We will be having new airbags replaced in the morning, they said it will only take a couple of hours to add the new ones before we are on the road. When we had problems with our RV in Beatty, the man who repaired it noticed our airbags were cracked too. We called Good Sam and they told us to take the RV over to a repair shop so they could check them out. They approved the replacement, we only have to pay the deductible of the $2800 for replacing...

Mar 24, 2018 - Birding Update

This update for all of our birding friends: When we arrived at our campsite in Las Vegas, we put out a couple of hummingbird feeders and two regular seed feeders. We were surprised at how fast the feeders were found. Vegas has turned into one of our best birding areas. We have two different kinds of hummers at the hummingbird feeder, plus we saw a tiny baby at the feeder, half eating, half sleeping. I went to take a closer look through the windshield and saw mama feeding two babies in the nest. Wow! This is the first time I have found a...

Mar 22, 2018 - More - Fun With Family

We had a great time with Kim and Cameron tonight. We met at the Geisha House Japanese Restaurant for a hibachi style dinner. The chef was one of the best we have had. He tossed eggs in the air and cracked them coming down, he made a cool volcano that had fire and smoke coming out of it. He turned the fried rice into a heart shape and then make it beat. Kim and Cameron had the steak and shrimp and Jerry and I had the chicken and shrimp. All were delicious. There was so much food, we could not eat all of it. Starting with a fresh salad with...

Mar 6, 2018 - Las Vegas then back to St George

3-4 thru 3-6-18 Las Vegas Had a great couple of days in Vegas with college buddies Fritz, Kristi, Larry, Nancy, and Scott. We were in town to attend the West Coast Conference basketball tournament, but mostly to have a mini class reunion of sorts. It doesn’t matter how much time passes between seeing this gang, we always seem to take up right where we left off. We ate, watched basketball, talked, ate, talked, watched more basketball, then ate. As a bonus, the Gonzaga women’s and men’s teams both won their tournament championships! Julie...

Mar 4, 2018 - Las Vegas Motor speedway

Well after 6 fun filled days with friends in Sin City it was time pack and head for the track. We had lots of laughs, too much food, lots of walking/sight seeing, went to a tribute show of 60's Motown singers, a bit of gambling, every thing the city has to offer. Our friends had an early departure Fri morning to return to N Alta, sad to see them go. Got to the track and set up and started meeting old friends from all sides. Weather was cool and windy thu-sat but wind eased and temps went up a bit for the races on sunday. Races were good but...

Mar 4, 2018 - St George, UT to Las Vegas, NV

3-4-18 St George, UT to Las Vegas, NV Got up at my normal early hour to go out for coffee. The regular crowd was gathered for the free breakfast in the lobby. Breakfast in this place is waffles, white bread, and Fruit Loops cold cereal. The guy I thought was homeless yesterday morning turned out to be the manager. He was tending to the continental breakfast. I wish Julie could see this. Second thought, I’m glad she can’t. We actually hung out at the hotel to watch “Sunday Morning” before getting ready to head out. Julie said she could still...

Mar 1, 2018 - Moving Day

We were over at Betty's at eight this morning to meet with the movers. We hired three men to load the pods. Betty had everything packed and in boxes and ready to go. They worked hard the first two hours and had most of the first pod filled up in a hurry. We were afraid two pods would not hold all of the furniture, we were shocked when it only took one pod and about a fourth of the other pod. We had way too much space. It is amazing how much those things hold. They are all packed and will be picked up in the morning making their way to...

Feb 28, 2018 - Pods Arrive

We were up early this morning and drove to Betty’s. The first moving pod was due to be delivered at 7. They had already delivered it early when we arrived. We waiting for the second one to arrive around 2 in the afternoon. We got to see how they set this one up, it was quite interesting to watch. We got two 16 foot pods for the move and are hoping they will be enough to hold all of Betty’s furniture. She has three bedrooms full of furniture and the pods look so small at first. After the pod delivery, we went to the Japanese Restaurant near...

Feb 23, 2018 - Las Vegas RV Resort

Dig out the woolies. After a cool/cold windy week on top of the hill overlooking Laughlin and the river it was time to continue our quest. We did a quick side trip to Kingman for fuel, where when we crested the summit at 3737ft much to our chagrin what did we run into bur snow showers, yes you read it right snow showers in Arizona at the end of February. A quick trip to Vegas to another one of our favorite parks due to price and location. Jean and Diannne Simard checked i n soon after us and the party is on. Friends of ours arrive Sunday...

Jan 5, 2018 - good-by LV

Our motor home has been here since November 16 and we have spent more than two weeks here as well. When we are here I feel a bit like I do when we are on a cruise ship: surrounded by happy people, happy to be here, having fun. I continue to be surprised how much fun we have here considering the fact that we never do what people come here to do - gamble. Although much of the city where normal people live is ticky tacky and lower, lower middle class, on the Strip a holiday is always about to happen. We've been here long enough to see three...

Jan 3, 2018 - the neon boneyard

In 2013 we visited the Neon Museum during the day. I won't repeat the history of signage in Las Vegas or how the lights function again, since I wrote about it then. This historic collection of neon signs from the 1920's to the present felt like a junkyard. A few of the signs had been restored and placed downtown in the Fremont Street area, but there were so many more than were in need of TLC to return them to their former glory. The combination of delicate glass tubing and electronic wiring needed to illuminate it all, suffered greatly in...

Jan 2, 2018 - Casa de Shenandoah

When I was a kid my family and I regularly watched the Ed Sullivan show. One evening a featured performer was a young, round-faced boy with a really high singing voice. He looked like a native American or maybe Hispanic, and when he started singing "Danke Schön," my Germanic family was perplexed. Why was this boy singing this song when he couldn't even pronounce danke schön properly? Little did we know that this song would become a hit and gave this young man a lengthy performing career. Wayne Newton is still performing three nights a week...
