May 4, 2018 - Red Rock Canyon

We drove west about 40 minutes to Red Rock Canyon National Park. What a well maintained and groomed national park. Absolutely beautiful. The scenic drive loop with lots of pull offs and parking areas is about 13 miles long and a joy to drive.

May 3, 2018 - Hoover Dam

Mark Price from Desert Mobile RV Repair replaced our rooftop AC this morning. Working like a charm. Excellent timing too... supposed to hit triple digit temperatures this weekend. Went and picked up a few groceries. After lunch we drove to the Hoover Dam. Quite the tourist draw. Sue and I both thought that it didn't look as big and imposing as you see on TV and in movies.

May 2, 2018 - Leaving Grand Canyon for Las Vegas

Can't believe it! Woke up this morning with the intention of heading for Las Vegas. Surprise! 8 inches of wet heavy snow. We had breakfast, staring out the windows the whole time. Got the ladder and cleaned of all the slide toppers so that we could retract them. Got all hooked up and made our way out of the park. Temperature was 3° C. Was an interesting drive for the first 3 hours. Drove through snow, rain, sleet, sunshine and dark threatening sky's. Pulled into Las Vegas with temperatures of 23° C. Enjoy the pictures.

Apr 16, 2018 - Day 21 in Vegas, and hopefully our last

I noticed yesterday as we came through the gatehouse there was a handwritten sign with this caption "and we call the wind Mariah, and a few $%^&*( names". I have always loved the song "Mariah", but I am sick of this high wind that we have seen during our 21 days in Vegas. More than half the days have been great but the ones that are not alright is because the wind has howled. A number of those days the wind speeds have been in the 25 - 35 mph and with most of those days there have been gust warnings of 40 - 60 mph. Enough is enough....

Apr 15, 2018 - Slow but Busy weekend

Saturday, up early by default...I woke up and could not go back to sleep. Up around 6:30, had breakfast while Sue was getting ready, then vice versa, she ate and I got ready. She worked on laundry for the second day in a row. She is making very good progress. I planned my wardrobe so that a certain amount had to be dirty so my drawers would be full but not stuffed. I am going to have to dirty some things up faster or she is gonna stress my wardrobe accommodations. We left around noon and headed for Henderson as that is where the people...

Apr 13, 2018 - Finally, we start to unwind...

Today was one of catch up, rest up and unwind some. We did as much of all as we could. Early, (8:30-ish) we started by having breakfast and getting around slowly. Laundry was started, taxes payment prepared for mailing and various motorhome maintenance. Around 2:00 we headed out to mail our final installment to Uncle Sam. With that done we headed for the south end of the Strip. We went to Chili's just in front of the Outlet Mall. We were in time to still qualify for the lunch menu. We ate well for a lot less than normal. Then into the mall...

Apr 12, 2018 - 19th day is a winner...we hope

We woke up in the Hampton Inn in North Las Vegas. We had breakfast downstairs and it was poor to say the best. But we had something. Then back to Cummins. We drove up and the Bus was still on the lot. We were concerned as soon as we saw it was unplugged. As we got out we noticed the tech was in the drivers seat and starting to take the Bus around the building. As we got out of the CRV to go inside we really noticed the 25+ mph wind. I mean really noticed and the forecast was for the winds to increase. Once inside we settled into our...

Apr 6, 2018 - Vegas and trip notes

We are in Scottsdale, AZ now. We stopped in Vegas for three days. My wonderful brother and his wife flew in from Atlanta to visit with us. We had a great time!! Hoover dam, great show and delicious food and drink. That’s all. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Just some geewiz stuff about the trip. We have made the turn and are now headed back east toward home. We have driven just over 3000 miles, 90% of those with the top down! The weather has been wonderful!! The pony is getting 26.3 mpg. Average speed 48 mph. We are in no hurry....

Apr 6, 2018 - Las Vegas

An interesting day! We took some roads not travelled again...I wanted to avoid the inspection station in California! I did not want to give up my fruits and vegetables so we took a few less travelled roads. As it turned out we still went through an inspection but it was all good! I really wanted to stop in Lake Havasu but Mel wanted to keep on trucking. I was not a good co-pilot and we ended up driving through Bullhead City which added time to our trip. Oh well, he did not let me see the London Bridge! Take that! LOL I guess our not...

Apr 5, 2018 - Last Night at the Rio

Yesterday, (Wednesday) provided little other than another day of frustration that we are stuck in a hotel and not the Bus. We went to WWW to check on the status of the repairs. The tank was sent to the local vendor for cleaning, checking for leaks and complete renovation. They hope it will be back on Friday, early. Our concern is where will that leave us Friday evening. If they complete the Bus it will be late. It is hard to reserve a space in any RV resort, if you do not have a Bus. It is hard to book a hotel room at weekend rates if you...

Apr 3, 2018 - Stuck in Vegas

For the next two nights I will be reporting from Las Vegas. In fact, the Rio in Las Vegas. Just off the strip on Flamingo Road. We are here because the fuel tank is out of the Bus and has been shipped off to be cleaned. Wild hectic day. I started early by running to W W Williams to check on the Bus. Good thing, they had turned the Bus around and pulled it inside. Then they plugged it up...however, they did not get it plugged in completely and the Bus ran all night on batteries. I ran in and checked and found that the batteries were at 50%...
