Sep 11, 2014 - South Lake Tahoe to Ely, NV

September 11, 2014 Woke up at 6:00 really pleased with sleeping through the night despite a waning full moon’s light coming through the window. Got up go find that I had not switched my travel clock from the eastern time zone! Guess I will have to take an iPhone to bed instead of charging overnight. I failed to mention that the hook ups in camp wefre attached to a beautiful redwood tree! Our environmentalist son, Josh, said the tree was pretty hardy and thee would be no issues unless something was tied around the circumference ghat would...

Jul 23, 2014 - Destination - Ely, Nevada

This morning we hitched up the truck & trailer & left the Las Vegas heat behind. Their temp today was going to be 109 degrees, so it was a good time to leave. We are now currently in Ely,the high here today is 92 degrees. We were here in Ely a couple years ago & decided on a return visit for the purpose of taking a 90 minute train ride, the train is pulled by one of Nevada's Northern Railway's original locomotives. Looking forward to our small excursion. Here our photos from our trip up I-15 & Highway 93 today.

Jun 10, 2014 - On the road again...

Decided I'd better put up a short post after a couple of nice inquiries from our readers wondering if 'we were okay?'It's nice to know some of you are still out there checking in on us :) We'd planned to head out last week but 'things' kept getting in the way. We did manage to go through just about everything we have 'in storage' here at Mom's. We didn't get rid of much but it is certainly better organized. And we got a kick out of looking at almost 30 years of photos. Boy, have we changed! Makes me a bit sad, wish I could do a bunch of it...

May 26, 2014 - Memorial Day weekend...

Today is Memorial Day, a time to honor all of the Americans who have died fighting for the thing we like the most about our America. The freedom we have to live 'free'. As RV'ers, we have really come to recognize the importance of that statement! We would like to thank all of our veterans and the young men & women currently serving in all branches of the military for your service and sacrifice for our country. Our grandson Jeffrey is currently stationed at Ft Leonardwood and are so very proud of him! We'll be spending our day with Mom....

May 17, 2014 - Ely Update...

Wow, the time has really flown by quickly. I can't believe I haven't posted since the 6th! If you are friends on Facebook, you probably know that we left Vegas on the 10th, as we wanted to spend Mother's Day with Mom here in Ely. We arrived about 6pm and were greeted with cold, windy weather and a 40 degree drop in temperature! Brrrrrr....Not much fun setting the rig up. Mom prepared dinner for us which is always welcome on a travel day. It snowed later that evening & temps were in the low 20's, but, I'm pleased to say that the weather...

May 2, 2014 - Ely, NV

We left St. George and traveled Hwy 18, Hwy 56 and US 93 to Ely, Nevada where we stayed at the Prospector Casino for $16.85/night. Our RV friends Jim and Lucy Reed traveled with us and Dick and Gail Pellegrini joined us a little later in the day. As this was our anniversary, the two other couples joined us for dinner and helped us celebrate our 44th anniversary. We had an excellent steak and shrimp dinner at the casino plus free margaritas. It was a wonderful evening. Of course we had to leave a little money in the state of Nevada.

Dec 2, 2013 - Our Anniversary...

Larry & I celebrated our 28th anniversary yesterday. As you know, Ely is a very small town. However, one of the local hotels offers a terrific steak and lobster dinner special on Saturday evenings so we took advantage of that. The meal, the company and the service were all excellent, so what more can a girl ask for??? LOL We had a no gift agreement but I received a lovely card and roses anyway! What a guy!!!! I am so blessed to be sharing this life with my darling hubby and look forward to many more wonderful years together. I love you...

Nov 28, 2013 - Happy Thanksgiving!

Woke up to a beautiful sunny Thanksgiving day. Not so warm, but sunny! The ovens been running all morning so it's nice and toasty inside anyway, lol! Mom and I have been quite busy preparing the traditional holiday feast and now it's time to sit back with our feet up for a couple of hours until it's time for 'the feed'. Can't wait, love this dinner and look forward to it each & every year.... And now, a bit of trivia for you: Did you know that almost 400 years ago, after surviving their first winter at Plymouth, the Pilgrims celebrated a...

Nov 23, 2013 - Ely Update...

We arrived in Ely last Friday to a chilly 25 degrees around 6pm.....Brrrrrrrrrrrr! Thankfully there was no snow, as we were loaded to the gills both inside the truck and in the bed of the truck. Really honey? We're only coming for a month, not 4, lol!!! Ok, ok, I admit that I brought a ton of stuff along too! It's pretty amazing what you think you can't live without on a day-to-day basis. It took us a good thirty minutes to get it all in the house and unpacked. Mom had prepared a very nice dinner and we were grateful for that. Guess she...

Sep 20, 2013 - A Lonely Road

/// Ely KOA Ely, NV Friday – September 20, 2013 Low Temperature: 42 degrees High Temperature: 76 degrees // A Travel Day: We got an early start this morning departing Mountain Home, ID by 8:00 AM - plus, I turned the clocks back to the Pacific Time Zone before we left. The first leg of today's trip was a 65 mile haul east on I-84 into a very strong head wind. At Twin Falls I missed the exit for US 93 because of some road construction and no exit sign. Once I got back onto US 93 southbound we had a long uphill pull into the high desert...

Sep 19, 2013 - Ely, NV - Valley View RV Park

It was a long 320 miles from Carson City to Ely, NV (that's pronounced eely). There were only three small towns in that 320 miles - Fallon, Austin and Eureka. It was a very good highway and an easy drive, crossing several different mountain range not withstanding. It was across the valley, cross the mountains, then repeat six or seven times. We took US 50 all the way across and it parallels the old Pony Express trail so we found that interesting - all that work for the pony express and it only lasted two years before the trains took...
