May 19, 2013 - Nevada: South-to-North

We've made it to northern Nevada tonight, after a challenging and long day on the road. We left Cattail Cove two days ago, heading north (between impossibly steep passes and high mountain ranges) towards Idaho. On the good side, central Nevada is far more scenic than we anticipated. If one likes high mountains (some still snow-capped) with huge valleys/basins, then Nevada has a lot to offer. Overall, the drive across the last two days has been very nice in terms of scenery. May 19, 2013 - Las Vegas RV Resort

Originally only going for 2 nights but found enough things that we wanted to do to keep us busy so extended our stay another week. CG had paved roads and two gravel areas for dogs to do business so works for us. Good 70' w/50amp FHU pull thrus. Not done doing our thing here so more to come later....

May 16, 2013 - Hawthorne, NV to Boulder City, NV

When we left Hawthorne this morning, Dave noticed that both end caps on the trailer's bumper, (in which you store the poop-tube) were gone. We keep our extension in there. One corner of the bumper was bent, too! Dave is certain that happened at the RV repair place in Reno, because there was nothing wrong with it when he washed the trailer before we left home. He tried pulling the extension tube out but it wouldn't budge. It had gotten twisted and was caught up on something. Dave was going to try to push it out the other end by pushing it...

May 15, 2013 - Nice drive...

We arrived in Vegas about 5pm after an uneventful trip. We're always grateful for that! Traffic was very light until we hit I-15 and even then it wasn't too bad as the rush hour hadn't quite hit. The temperature was 20 degrees warmer than when we left Ely, not loving that. I've been enjoying those 70 degree days. Today I had tons of errands to do before we leave for our trip to California. May 15, 2013 - Reno, NV to Hawthorne, NV

We didn't leave Reno till 2:15!! But I guess that was better than the projected 4:00 completion time we originally got from the RV place. And we were both dead tired. Our lack of sleep wasn't just due to the bright lights in Baldini's parking lot. There were also the planes arriving and departing the airport (Baldini's is practically on the run way!) and the trains every half hour, the motorcycles and the parking lot loud speakers. May 15, 2013 - Travel day - Beatty to Hawthorne, Nevada

While at Beatty we saw something we had never experienced ............. donkeys in a RV park! It was so different and we both enjoyed the adventure. Also we saw the modern day hippes they was just very nice kids. As for our day on the road - it was good. The wind was blowing but Ken handled the roads very well. After we arrived in Hawthorne our friends arrived and of course we had happy hour and then food grilled and eaten ..... such fun! So until the next time........ Have fun and stay safe! May 14, 2013 - Travel day - Beatty, Nevada

Today started out ok ..... but Fran gave the wrong turn info but we got it corrected very soon. The winds was ok for most of the day .... just strong winds for about 30-40 miles past Indian Springs (must have been those pesty aliens). May 14, 2013 - Lake Almanor, CA to Reno, NV

We left today and went as far as Reno, for an 8:15am appointment to have the A/C on the trailer fixed and have the wheel bearings packed. The RV repair place suggested we stay in the parking lot of Baldini's Casino, since it was only about a mile from them. It was really windy but we didn't care; we weren't BBQ-ing tonight or eating outside. We left the trailer there and went to the Atlantis so I could have my raw oysters and Dave could have his clam chowder-bread bowl. We gambled a little at Baldini's; I lost $40 and Dave won $10. May 13, 2013 - Las Vegas

We spend three days in Las Vegas at Sam's Town RV Park on Boulder Highway. When we arrived Saturday we was so pleased to find our friends, Chris and Greg Finer parked in our buddy site. We enjoyed happy hour together on Friday before we walked over to the casino so we could eat and do a little slots. Sunday we ran some errands after we had the coach and car washed - Camping World and Albertsons. May 12, 2013 - Happy Mother's Day!

Today we are so fortunate to be here in Ely to celebrate this special Mother's Day with Mom. We plan to go to church this morning followed by a bbq later in the day. As in years past, this day brings up many thoughts about motherhood for me. We are especially proud of our daughter-in-law's who are all doing an amazing job with our beautiful grandchildren. May 11, 2013 - Update...

Wow, I can't believe we've been here 11 days already, the time is sure flying by quickly. We really haven't done much as the weather has really had it's ups and downs. We even got a bit of rain one day, but it was light and didn't last long. The temperature went from 54 the day we arrived to a couple of high 60's and even a 70 before dropping back into the low 50's again! But I'm happy to report it is in the mid 70's today and looks like it will stay that way for a bit. Mom has a large cinder block garage and a good sized storage shed so...

May 11, 2013 - Travel day - Las Vegas

We only had 115 miles to travel today so no rush in getting out. The roads where much better today, only about 5-6 miles before we was on better roads. Traveling north towards Hoover Dam and Nevada the roads where good and the winds not to bad. Going over the dam they make the high profile vehicles move over to the inside lane, so Fran holds the camera as high as she can to get a few pictures of the view - they are not too straight but hope you enjoy the view.
