Jun 10, 2013 - Buffalo Bill State Park
This is a small state park campground just outside of North Platte, NE. It is part of Scout's Rest -- Buffalo Bill Cody's retreat ranch -- the home of which is nearby. The campground had a single water supply - placed at the back of one of the back-in sites (not a good location). This was inexpensive ($13.00/night) and very pretty. It was a good stop and we stayed an extra night here.

Jun 9, 2013 - Buffalo Bill's Ranch
This ranch was the retreat (when he wasn't performing) for Buffalo Bill Cody and his wife. The original home is still there and several outbuildings. The home is impressive and quaint -- an interesting glimpse into Bill Cody's life as a domesticated frontier scout.

Jun 9, 2013 - Early Morning
We decided to arise early today and go back to Smiley Cannon. I wonder what time it gets light? It was 5 AM this morning and the sky was already bright. Our two trips to Smiley were so peaceful, we want to go back. Today we saw a mother black prong antelope and her two babies. They are such pretty and graceful animals. The drive to the top of the butte was beautiful and quite. We didn't see another car on the road as we made the six mile loop. On the top there was a path so we decided to follow it and took a short hike. You can see so far...

Jun 8, 2013 - Golden Spike RR Classification Center
This is the largest RR yard in the world -- 8 miles long and one and a half miles wides. We viewed the yard from the top of a tower. There, we listened to a retired conductor who had lots of information about the yard and the rails.

Jun 7, 2013 - Ft Robinson, Crawford, Nebraska
Today was a laid back day. We went all around the fort and saw how the cavalry soldiers lived here. We also went on a scenic drive to the top of a nearby butte. Tonight we will go to a inter tribal powwow opening ceremony. The dancing was awesome! I am sure the pictures don't do it justice.

Jun 4, 2013 - Two whole days in Omaha!
The two days in Omaha revolved around repairs, re-organization, reunion with family, and LAUNDRY! The RV Doctor was great but expensive. So we will probably cut Salt Lake City out on the way back home. The re-organization got rid of things in the car we really could leave in the trailer. And since Dan has to reach things with his broken arm, all improvements decrease any negative energy he might be spewing forth...not that either of us do that. The reunions with Barb and Bill and their daughter, Carmie, son, Dan, and daughter-in-law,...

Jun 3, 2013 - Traveling through Nebraska
We got to our stop tonight at 9:30 PM, which would have been 10:30 had we not driven into the Mountain Time Zone. Long day to say the least! We left Kansas around 10:30am and quickly crossed over into Nebraska. Lots of beautiful farms and everything was so green…and flooded in areas. We stopped in Hastings, Nebraska at the WalMart to park the RV while Jay went off to an appointment in Wood River. Our friend Kris has family who lives in Wood River and sure enough the people at Jay's appointment knew her family and one of their sons even...

Jun 3, 2013 - Columbia to Omaha
Again, we tried to leave earlier and failed. Two hours later, we're on our way. The other thing that happens is that, once the destination is put in the garman, it tells you the approximate time of arrival. Usually around 2:30 or 3 for us. But with each gas fillup or potty stop, both dog and human, the time on the garman gets later and later. We usually end up arriving between 5 and 6. The farmlands were amazing. You cannot see all that great expanse of farms and not be impressed by the size of our country! I remembered a line from a film...

May 28, 2013 - Nebraska City, NE
Nebraska City has a Lewis and Clark Interpretive and Visitors Center that is said by some to be the best of them all. Since each of the 8 states visited by Lewis and Clark has at least one L&C Center, this might be saying something. This is a large one and it has the replica keelboat used in a National Geographic L&C film. We know that Nebraska has good beef and throughout our trip we have been looking for the perfect steak. The meat department of a local grocery was recommended and the rib-eyes looked promising. We grilled and we have a...

May 19, 2013 - Pierce NE - Willow Creek Campground
Overnighted in Pierce so we could visit Cuthills winery before heading to South Dakota. The weather was very stormy, so we just hunkered down in the camper most of the time watching for weather warnings. Good thing the Tailgaiter (Dish) kept working so we knew what was going on.

May 18, 2013 - West Point NE - Neligh Park Campground
Stopped in at West Point to see Carole and Jim. There was a wedding in town that day and the wedding party all showed up in what looked like a hay wagon, took a bunch of pictures and then left. Carole said they have a limo in West Point, so I'm not sure why they chose that mode of transportation, but it was unique. Had a great visit with Carole and Jim. They are both busy beavers what with work and all. Told them they needed to come visit in Arizona next winter, but time will tell on that.

May 15, 2013 - Blair NE - Bob Hardy RV Park
Moved to Blair so we could get to Omaha and back easily. Took care of all our appointments and got clean bills of health, so we're good to go. Got a chance to get to lunch with my buddy Donna from OTC. Lots of changes there - including the fact that Uncle Warren (Buffett) now owns them, but Donna's still hanging in there!
