Sep 10, 2018 - End of the Trail

Nebraska City, NE It was not a traditional wildlife day but an avian wildlife day instead. We stopped at a nice state recreation area and while we were checking out a beaver lodge, noticed a stately bird watching us – an eagle. We also spotted a blue heron and a Kingfisher. Unfortunately, the Kingfisher was too fast for our camera, but we saw him strike. He sure was quick. Some of our other activities included a stop at Indian Cave State Park and a really good house tour in Nebraska City. Built in 1869, the ten-room Gothic style Wildwood...

Sep 5, 2013 - More fact finding

Nebraska City, NE After a wonderful breakfast served to just the 4 of us in a vast but empty dining area, we headed to Nebraska City to the Lied Lodge for some more research on a reunion venue. After meeting with the marketing rep for the Lodge and then the Chamber of Commerce agent, it was play time. We started our Arbor Day Farm Tree Adventure with a Discovery Tour where we were instructed in the proper way to pick apples. It turns out that we all had been doing it wrong! One should lift the apple from the bottom, then twist the apple. If...

Aug 23, 2013 - Nebraska City, Nebraska

Moved South about 46 miles to Nebraska City, Nebraska staying at the Victorian Acres RV Park. This will be our last new State added to our map of the United States for this trip. We have covered a lot of ground and still have about 1300 miles to cover before getting back to Mission, TX. We are debating when to get back mid October 1st. of Nov. not sure but when you see us we'll be there. Playing golf in Syracuse, Nebraska today and it's going to be hot in the 90's so should sweat off a couple of pounds and that can't hurt. We should be in...

Aug 1, 2013 - Nebraska City NE - Riverview SRA

Camped for one night on the banks of the Missouri River in a small state campground. The river is really high right now and it's really moving fast. Got some rain during the night, too, which I think all of Nebraska could use. Unfortunately, Nebraska doesn't have enough money to mow this park (per Norma, the campground host), so rain just makes the grass grow here and that's not a good thing. Visited the tasting rooms at Kimmel Orchards and Arbor Day Farms. Not much exciting happening at either location since it's not apple time yet. They...

Retired at Last!

May 28, 2013 - Nebraska City, NE

Nebraska City has a Lewis and Clark Interpretive and Visitors Center that is said by some to be the best of them all. Since each of the 8 states visited by Lewis and Clark has at least one L&C Center, this might be saying something. This is a large one and it has the replica keelboat used in a National Geographic L&C film. We know that Nebraska has good beef and throughout our trip we have been looking for the perfect steak. The meat department of a local grocery was recommended and the rib-eyes looked promising. We grilled and we have a...

Oct 24, 2012 - Heading South

Started South today, only took 2 hours to say goodbye, and we are seeing the Nielsons again Saturday in Kansas City. Planning on going to the Kansas City/Oakland football game together on Sunday if I can shake a sinus infection. It was a long drive today with my eyes swollen half shut.

Aug 10, 2012 - Wonderful visit with old friends

Gary and Doris took us out for a good breakfast at a good truck stop. We said our good-bye and got on the road about 10:30 after a stop at Walmart. We drove 190 miles today. We were in three states, Mo, Iowa, and Nebraska. We are at the Victorian Acres RV park. It is a very pretty and clean campground. We are paying more for a spot than we usually do but didn't want to drive any further. It isn't passport american but we did get the good sam's discount. The country side is really pretty here after being in Mo where it is so dry. At least...

Don't wake me up

Jun 27, 2012 - Tuesday June 26 - North Platte, Ne. to Nebraska City, Ne.

Tuesday June 26: Today was an easy day with no mishaps. We left North Platte with the generator running and the air conditioner running. It was cool in the motor home because we had the motor home cool before we started driving down the highway. It stayed cool while driving and then we stopped driving around 2:30 in the afternoon. Tomorrow we will be at our daughters in Trenton, Missouri. Two multi-day stops and one overnight campground and we will be home, Jerry & Joanna

Wandering America

Apr 24, 2012 - Nebraska City, NE

Okay, okay, I confess! We stayed in Emporia, Kansas last night and Chris AGAIN neglected to take a photo! Must be getting lazy, slacking off, you get the idea, right? Actually, it was a pretty crummy campground with lots of road and railroad noise, and Chris has caught whatever crud Dave has. Yep, we're both down hard! So today we took a little side trip to a campground (Victorian Acres Campground) just a little way across the Nebraska border. Especially nice (and quiet!) after last night, so we both got a fairly good night's sleep. Dave...

Mar 2, 2011 - Day 2. First little blip on the schedule.

We discovered last night that Larry had forgotten the mask to his CPAP so he slept (sort of) without it for the first time in 20-some years. Next morning we found a pharmacy that could sell us a workable replacement. Headed toward southern Illinois via St. Louis--saw the arch gleaming in the setting sun. Motel 6 in Marion....
