Sep 20, 2011 - From Lake Ogalalla to Kimball, Nebraska

This morning we got moving like a herd of turtles, but it was nice to be lazy Right now we're crossing the dam at Lake Ogalalla, which is immense. The wind came up during the night and the whitecaps on the water are beautiful from our nice, dry van—I wouldn't care to be out there in a boat. We stopped on the south end of the dam where water is cascading, looking for all the world like a sideways waterfall Sam is out taking photos. We had run out of books to read because I forgot to pack the charger for the Kindle, so we stopped at a tiny...

Jun 6, 2010 - Kimball RV Park

My 3rd night on the road and my 2nd KOA!! One of the things I swore I'd never do...stay at an RV park. But...when it's hot and you're tired, it looks good. This one was truly open---I had a tree. But it had electric hookup and water, which I used to fill my tank. The facilities were very clean and there were showers...a very important feature. Also the first night I didn't need to run the a/c. That was really great! A/C is very, very loud. This night I was able to open the windows and enjoy fresh air. Abby likes the windows open too. She...

May 28, 2010 - Still In Kimball

Well the good luck just keeps coming!! Most of you have probably seen the news about the hail storm in Denver, CO on Wednesday (5/26). Well we got it here in Kimball, NE on Tuesday. Charley and his Mom were out running errands in our car (which we just got the end of December 2009) when it hit. It came in from the South and that was the direction the rear of the car was parked. Anyway the hail broke both windshields – cracked the front and punched holes in the rear – took out both rear view mirrors and broken rear lights and part of the...

May 17, 2010 - Kimball, NE - 5/17/10

Well we were planning to be in Idaho, on our way to Cascade for the summer by now. However Thursday of last week (13 May) we got a phone call from Charley’s mom. His Dad, Barney, who had been in poor health for the last year, had passed away that morning. It was expected, but at the same time it was sudden. Ginney (C’s Mom) had called us the prior Wednesday to let us know his Dad was in the hospital again with breathing problems this time. They kept him in the hospital for a few days and then moved him to the Kimball Nursing Home. He seemed...

Jun 21, 2009 - Southwest Nebraska

We left Crawford, NE about 9:30 with plans to spend the night in Scottsbluff. The road heading south was good and the trip was uneventful. We stopped to see Scottsbluff National Monument. It was interesting to hear the story of how this came to be. We took the shuttle up to the top and listened to what Scotts Bluff meant to the early travelers going west acrossed the plains. Our guide was a school teacher in his real life and does this in his spare time for entertainment. He asked us all about Utah as he has a desire to visit. We inquired...

Jun 1, 2007 - On our way home

Well, we left Jackson, Wyoming this morning heading for home. We left at about 5:15 am and...realizing that we did not take any very early mornings while we were here to go watch wildlife...saw more wildlife this morning than we had seen in the rest of the trip. We had Buffalo right on the side of the road...both sides of the road...which we needed to be sure we didn't hit as they crossed. We saw some Mule Deer and many, many Elk and Antelope. It was great wildlife viewing...we loved it. Stopped in Kimball, Nebraska for the night...a really...
