Oct 6, 2011 - Hastings, NE (Day 3) - New Tires, High Winds

(Ron Writing) We’re still in Hastings, NE. A couple days ago when we were driving to Hastings from Lincoln, we could feel an unusual “bouncing” motion in the rig as we were driving. This started just when the highway surface changed from very smooth new asphalt to some old asphalt covered concrete and we suspected it was just the road joints causing the rig to “porpoise”. But it seemed worse than expected so we stopped twice to check all the tires and the tire pressures. Everything looked normal so we continued. When we arrived in Hastings...

Oct 4, 2011 - Hastings, NE - Our First Runza & German-Russians

(Ron Writing) While driving around Lincoln we’ve noticed several Runza Restaurants and were curious about what kind of food they serve. Today we stopped by a Runza for lunch and enjoyed a new and different kind of sandwich. Nebraska is known for its Runza sandwich, a “sealed” bread with a meat filling. In perusing travel literature, T had noticed several references to the North Platte Canteen museum. Since she had no idea what a canteen museum was all about and since the Lincoln County Museum which housed this gem was...

Oct 20, 2007 - Hastings, NE

Well, guess what? We continue to amaze even ourselves. We started down the road this morning and instead of turning south we ended up pointing further east and then north. Our reasoning was fairly simple; we have until Dec. 20th before we have to be back in Port Townsend for Ralph's doctor appointments, that's 2 full months of travel time. As we really love the southwest and want to be where it may be warmer than Washington, we thought we still have enough time to see a lot more of Middle America before the snow flies. We hadn't really...
